Appearance:
Human: Danny's hair is his most readily noticeable feature, as it is curiously black and oddly straight for its thickness. It comes down to a little above mid-back, and seeing as it seems to stay flat no matter what, Danny just keeps it in a simple ponytail. Much like his feathers, it will shine somewhat in the light, but is usually just flat black. Jaggedly cut but still smooth bangs fall across his face, covering his slightly pointed eyes. His skin contrasts greatly with his hair; it's porcelain white despite his affinity for gong out in the sun. His paleness probably has something to do with his habit of wearing long, loose jackets and baggy pants that are most likely too long for him. Where he finds these pants is a mystery, as his 5'11" height would make it difficult to find clothes that are long enough in the first place. His favorite jacket seems to be a dark gray trench coat that he will wear in the colder months.Personality:
Another curious aspect of his clothing is that, infallibly, there will always be white on his outfit. It may be a shirt, jacket, or even a white ribbon tied around his neck. His thin build makes the clothing seem even more baggy, though not in an unhealthy way.
His eyes, perhaps the most curious trait of all, are a warm gold color, though they turn light brown in the absence of light. They almost always reflect his mood, making them the only true way to discern his current feelings. His smile, ever constant and only varying in size and sincerity, rarely actually means he's happy. The only time his smile disappears is when he's sleeping and when he lies. His shifter mark, a deep crimson in color, is located on the bottom of his right foot.
Shapeshifter form: Thick, sable feathers cover his entire body, save for the dark skin on his bony legs. Like most ravens, he has a very dense cluster of feathers on his neck, and his tail is the usual wedge shape. He is a little bit bigger than most wild ravens, and his pointed wings have an intimidatingly long span. His beak, though curved, is wickedly sharp and has the usual tuft of fine feathers on it. Atypical of ravens, however, is the pure white dot above his left eye, and the yellow color of normally brown eyes. When they catch the sun, his feathers take on a white shine, but in all other cases they are just a shade above jet black.
Danny is, unsurprisingly, borderline psychotic. This means that he understands the different between right and wrong, and the idea of consequences - he just doesn't really care. He's perfectly content to do things that others would find embarrassing or shocking, just because he feels like doing it. (This manifests itself most in his violent habit of killing two or three people a month. While sane people would find this act appalling, Danny views it as a terrific outlet for pent up anger.) With that in mind, Danny isn't stupid. He will pay attention to right and wrong if there's something of value at risk, such as someone's friendship or his own freedom.History:
As a person, he's really quite friendly, albeit brutally honest and downright scary at times. He approaches individual strangers with ease, and will attempt to befriend anyone he might come across. He's the type of person to strike up a conversation with the people he's waiting in line with, if they seem receptive enough to friendly chatter. Danny holds his friends and loved ones in the highest esteem, despite his gentle teasing and joking, and will do anything for them. He loves to make jabs and lightly antagonize his friends, but it's all in good fun. He really is quite the people-person, though large crowds makes him uncomfortable and nervous. He will often try his hardest to get away from them, if an escape is possible.
Despite his outgoing nature, Danny does have a dark side. If he doesn't like you, he will make sure you know about it. He can have a horribly wicked tongue when he's angry, and the worst part is, he most likely won't feel bad about it later. He really has no problem hurting others, provided that they're not important to him, and he even takes a sick sort of satisfaction from physically hurting strangers. (He always targets the scum of Shelpey, though, so it really could be worse. At least this way, only the very worst of our fair Alley suffer.)
On the subject of his monthly murders, Danny has two traits that greatly help him with remaining off the radar: a penchant for detail and a fondness for keeping things tidy. His attention to things that others would deem insignificant has made him much less prone to leave behind even the smallest traces of evidence, instead taking the time to remove or avoid leaving the incriminating clues. He also keeps his killings quick, clean, and easily disposable, so that the authorities would have an even harder time connecting him to the crime.
Born to an ordinary middle class family, Danny led a fairly normal life before middle school. He was born to loving parents - both of which had a little Asian ancestry, which gave him some cultural identity - who taught him to behave and how to be kind. He was a fairly quiet child, but it didn't bother his parents in the least, and they remained happy. However, it all changed when Danny entered the seventh grade. Suddenly, he was lashing out at the other children, refusing to socialize with them, and being generally antisocial and disruptive. Shocked and unsure about what caused this change, his parents did the thing they thought was best - they withdrew him from school for a year and put him in therapy.Sample:
Sadly, the therapy did more harm than good. The therapist was inexperienced and frustratingly unhelpful, often enraging the young Danny. (Oddly enough, the therapist helped him discover his shape shifting power - one night, he was so angry at the man that he accidentally shifted from the sheer will to escape his problems.) After a while, though, Danny's behavior began changing. He developed a borderline obsession with telling the truth, his misanthropic tendencies were reversed, his near-psychosis began to form, and he secretly began bottling up the majority of his anger. His parents were thrilled with this seemingly great improvement, and entered him back into school after moving to Shelpey.
Sometime in that time frame, Danny let out his pent up rage by killing his first victim. He discovered it was a fantastic way to relieve his inner stress, but quickly decided that taking it out on innocent bystanders was a little too cruel. Thus, he began planning who to kill and when to do the deed - strangely, the process of organizing the murder helps relieve some the bottled tension, making him even less likely to kill at that time.
From that year on, Danny has become a pleasant and friendly young man, though he's only gotten more efficient in scouting out and taking care of victims. His growing group of friends seems to take away some of the building stress, however, leading to fewer murders. Regardless, he remains one of the darker inhabitants of Shelpey Alley.
The bright moon shone down on dead leaves, autumn wind blowing them back and forth over the pavement. Two figures stood there, cloaked in shadow from the moon's view. A steady dripping sound could be heard; blood was leaking out from one of the figures. The second figure held the first by his collar.Other:
"D-Danny..." the bleeding figure choked, his voice thick and strained. A horrible cough then wracked his body, causing the other to drop him. The dying man's body hit the concrete with a heavy 'thump'.
"Please don't call me that, Steve," said the upright figure with a pleasant grin. "It makes it sound as though we're friends..."
Steve, the collapsed individual, said nothing in return. Danny curiously nudged him with his boot, then outright kicked him. Nothing.
"Poor Steve," the teenager said, pushing back dark bangs. "If only he was a little nicer to everyone."
Danny walked out onto the street, hands in his pockets. The sounds of the city still drifted through the air, creating a melody much gentler than the thunder of the day. A wide smile now graced the boy's face, wide with evident satisfaction. "Oh well. It's a good thing he transferred schools a week ago; they can't trace the murder back to home." Fingers inside the right pocket brushed a school ID; Danny still attended high school.
"Looks like I'm free as a bird."
A loud laugh echoed through the night as a pitch black raven took off, flying east toward the buildings.
He absolutely hates it when people call him "DJ." He is not amused by it. At all.
When he's alone, he likes to sing and/or dance to songs on the radio.
His favorite color isn't actually white, but is in fact red. It might be changing to green, though, with the help of one Shifter in particular...((*SHOT*))
