'And Lions don't bark.
Golden paws walked gingerly around the ruble. This is where she lurked, where she stayed. The jungle of ruble, home to the Queen of cats. She had come from Africa; born and raised to hunt an kill with a pride. But she no longer had a pride, now, she had a Gang. She was with the Assassins. A merciless gang, most say, but when you're born and raised by lions, Mercy is one of the things that were never taught.
What she was taught was how to survive. She had gone through many seasons, birthed her cubs on her homeland, and protected them until even her sight failed to help her.
And now, she was there. Completely blind, scarred, and still vigorous. The lioness had few friends, her appearance was quite intimidating, covered in scars and smelling of battles long since past. She longed for the company of another, though she knew there were rarely any lion shifters around. It saddened her to be so alone in a city so full of people.
She had come to cope with her blindness, though. She would focus indefinitely on sounds and smells, and the tiniest of vibrations that she could pick up through her paws. She knew her way around for the most part. When she got too close to things, she could feel the difference in air pressure around her whiskers. She also knew what was hollow and what was not by the sound it made if she touched it. So many things she had gained by simply loosing her eyesight.
Coming to a rather slow stop, the lioness leaped into the hull of a truck. It was shaded there, and warmer than it was outside of the broken vehicle. The glass was broken in the windows, and the windsheild was cracked, the vinyl was torn, and the dashboard was ripped, but Keara found herself quite comfortable in the truck. The closeness and sureness of what was around her allowed her to lower her defenses a bit, though she would remain on alert for sounds and smells.
She lay on the seat, tail flicking beside her. er blind eyes were closed, and she could faintly hear footsteps, or pawsteps, or some kind of step approaching. Friend or foe or species was not determined yet, though she could tell someone was coming. She gave a soft warning growl in case it was a foe, and unsheathed her claws in case she needed to use them. She was ready to spring if it came to it, her position fairly rigid as she concentrated on the sound coming nearer and nearer.

Andrei yowled in rage as the noisy rats people called Chihuahua's yapped shrilly at him, chasing him down the empty street furiously. Just because he had walked within twenty feet of them, they had decided that he would be their lunch. What was up with that?! Enraged, and more than a bit scared, he had taken off, rushing for anywhere that was safe.
He smelt the safe place before he saw it and as soon as it came up, he ducked into it and began to hurriedly weave his way through the trash and gunk. He hissed quietly when he banged his paw against something hard and cold but kept going anyways, happy when he heard the confused sounds of the rats before they ran off to chase some other poor animal.
Heaving a sigh of relief and letting his tiny chest expand and constrict swiftly, Andrei flopped down on his side and gasped for breath for a few good minutes before rolling over onto his belly and carefully standing up on three legs. Gingerly, he set his injured right paw down only to hiss loudly as he put a tiny amount of pressure on it. He jerked it back up to his small body and mewled pitifully, wishing more than anything that Trinell was with him. She would know what to do.
Ears pinned back against his head fully, Andrei crouched low and looked around the junkyard with wide, fearful crimson eyes. What was he supposed to do now? He didn't know where he was, not anymore. It was all those stupid rats' faults! If they hadn't started chasing him, he wouldn't have gotten lost! And he wouldn't have banged his paw up, either!
Curling his tail close to his body, Andrei buried his nose in the thick fur and purred loudly to himself in an attempt to calm himself. It didn't work very well and, with a loud mewl of fear and anguish, and hopped to his paws and hobbled along in no certain direction.
He skidded to a stop, however, as he heard the low warning growl and instantly dropped to his belly, cowering back with his fur puffed out, ears all the way back, and eyes wider than normal. Trembling in unchecked terror, Andrei meowed a shaky, "P-p-please do-don't ea-eat me! I-I don't wa-wanna d-d-die!"

'I swaer I never meant to let it die.'
She could hear the damn chihuahua's barking before she could smell them. She didn't much care for dogs, least of all the small yappy ones. She didn't care much for any dogs, actually. Unless they were pups. She didn't mind pups. They were somewhat pleasant, at least.
Another scent came to her nose as it got closer. It was a cat. And by the way it mewled and hissed, it didn't sound very old.
...
A kitten! Kaera's growl immediately ceased, and she arose and stretched her large figure, then peered out the smashed away window of the truck. Her blind eyes couldn't see the kitten, but she knew he was there. Her nose, ears, and whiskers told her so.
"I wouldn't eat you." Kaera said reassuringly, shaking her head. Who would eat a kitten? Definitely not a lion who had, before, had cubs of her own and protected them with her very life. No way would she hurt a child, nor put one in danger.
"Are you hurt, young one?" Kaera asked the kit, though she didn't really know his position on the ground. She couldn't see the fright in his posture, or the terror in his eyes.
'I just don't care about you anymore.'

Andrei froze in place as he saw what he thought lived only in Africa and zoos. A lion. A honest to God, full-grown lion. But where was its mane? Was it a girl? Andrei didn't think about that, too scared by the sight of the massive cat to do anything other than gape and tremble.
"I wouldn't eat you." Came a gentle voice, one that reminded Andrei of how his mother would speak to him whenever he was scared. Slow, low, and soothing. Almost instantly, his trembling slowed and his ears began to rise a bit. His curiousity was growing and he tilted his head ever so slightly to the side to stare at the scarred face of the lioness. "Thank you." He said gratefully.
"Are you hurt, young one?" She then asked and Andrei automatically dropped his head to lick gently at his injured paw. "Yeah... I hit it on something and it really hurts now." He said softly, licking his paw again and looking up at the lioness pitifully. "Do you know how to take care of hurts? I don't know and Trinell isn't here and I'm lost cause those stupid rats chased me..." He added, looking for all the world the epitomy of depression.

'I swear I never meant to let it die.'
She nodded her head at his thanks. "You're very welcome, young one." She said, her tone still soft in case he was still frightened of her.
"Aww, poor baby. Did you sprain it?" Kaera asked him sentimentally, leaping out of the car window to thump down to the ground just a bit in front of him. The lioness towered over the kitten. Very much so.
"Come here, baby, and let Kaera feel it." She ushered the kitten, laying down so that she wasn't so big. She wouldn't tower over him too much now. Not too much. Now she was just like a giant kitty herself!
"I'll have to touch it dearie, but if it hurts just tell Kaera, okay?" Kaera told the kitten with a smile.
'I just don't care about you anymore.'

Andrei purred softly in reponse to Kaera replying to his thanks, his large blood eyes watching as Kaera prepared to leap from the car window. "Aww, poor baby. Did you sprain it?" She asked as she jumped, landing with a loud but dull thud.
Andrei could only gape at her, his eyes wide at her massive size. He himself was probably only the size of her paw, if that. Suddenly, Andrei felt very, very small and despite her gentle words previously, Andrei felt fear rush through him. She could crush him without even trying, if she wanted to.
"Come here, baby, and let Kaera feel it." She then said, laying down. Andrei felt the fear ebb slightly and rose slowly to his paws, his injured foot pulled up against his chest. Carefully, he made a slow progress from his spot to her massive form.
"I'll have to touch it dearie, but if it hurts just tell Kaera, okay?" Andrei nodded and stopped when he reached her, sitting back on his haunches and carefully settling his injured paw on one of her great ones. It was barely as big as one of her toes. "Okay, Kaera. Thank you for helping me!" He purred loudly, his tiny body vibrating, and he ducked his head to lick her paw thankfully before settling down with his leg stretched out.

"Okay, Kaera. Thank you for helping me!"
Kaera was surprised. The kitten was much smaller than she had thought. Barely half the size of what her cubs had been. But he was a Kitten, not a Cub, she reminded herself. Gingerly, she touched her nose the the small paw. She couldn't feel any breaks or cracks in the bone, so she was going to assume it was just sprained or that the little fella had pulled a muscle.
"It's not broken, probably just an awful sprain, dear. It should get better if you keep it in warm water and stretch it a bit." Kaera said with a smile.
Bone-chilling winds drifted their way through the heaps of trash. The lioness shivered. She'd come from one of the hottest places on the planet, and she still wasn't used to the changing seasons of Shelpey Alley. Lifting her head, she smelled the air. She couldn't see the dark, foboding storm clouds that were drifting in from the north, but she could hear the thunder, and smell the rain.
"I can't show you the way back, Kitten. Because I don't really leave this place a lot without someone else showing me. But you're welcome to stay the night with me, since there's a bad storm approaching." Kaera said, smiling and purring. She arose and turned, jumping back into the truck through the window. She settled herself in comfortably, then called out to the kitten.
"Can you make the jump, deary? It is a good few feet off the ground. You may need to shift to get in, and I wouldn't mind in the least if you decided to stay warm in your human form." Kaera called, her voice motherly and understanding, a pleasant smile upon her face.
God save the man that tried to hurt a child while Kaera was around. Scratch that. Even God couldn't save a person Kaera had her sights set on. Not the god of heaven, nor the satan of hell, neither would be able to save a man with Kaera stalking them.
