Silence. It was always horrible. You never know what will break the silence. Maybe its you breathing, or the rustling of the wind, maybe even the roar of thunder. Sometimes, it may be your thoughts. Not in this case. It was the sound of a backpack slamming into the ground. As the wind blew, a strange figure violently kicked the backpack under the rotted wooden bench of the park. The wood was rotted from being old, and the once beautiful black armrests were now nothing more than metal bars that were all rusty, the black paint already warred away. The strange figure stood up, looking like no more than an independent shadow. He or she stepped forward and into the light and there you saw was a girl.
She had long brunette hair, in a perfectly straight line like a ruler that ended at her heart and curled up at the bottom. Her hair might had been dark, but it had blond highlights that looked almost unnatural, but hinted a bit of her personality. Flaming, always wanting to be the best and getting what she wanted. She wore a baby-blue shirt with short sleeves. Her arms were skinny, and she looked quite slim. Her hazel eyes gleamed with many different ambitions, as if you could reach into her gleaming eyes and just pull out any random ambition you ever wanted. Her pants were simple light blue jeans, and she wore torn up sneakers. Apparently, she wasn't the richest of the girls in town.
Still.. she showed promise in many different ways. She looked innocent, like she wouldn't hurt a fly. Did she do that on purpose? You had to at least try to act fragile. Actually she did. Every morning when she was putting eye liner on she would scream "Shit!" because it slid against her cheek and hadn't come off for a day. She wasn't a very dressy uppy girl but she had to act like it... so no one would know what and who she really was. She stepped in the ripe grass that looked almost painted because it looked so lush. Her shadow followed her side faithfully. Birds didn't chirp though. Again, silence. It was the worst thing in the world. She stepped to the side of the part, looking above the wooden fences that guarded what seemed to be the forest.
The trees ominously swung from side to side, looking like they were going to fall. She swung her leg back and kicked the fence, only to notice it wasn't hard at all. She felt the slender wood, it was brand new. She leaned against it for a moment. She came here everyday, but she never gained the courage to jump over the fence and escape into the wilderness. Would she ever come back? Cole had her problems. She lost control sometimes when she was a wolf. She flinched, glancing from side to side. A small tree in the park just lurched to the side, and the stony path that led out of the path showed nothing but the way out. The swings were only being pushed by the wind.
She took a deep breath and changed. It was simple. If you closed your eyes for a second you would have missed it. First her face and then the rest of her body. It was quick. Now, she had a pelt as black as oil, and her tail was a smooth and creamy white. Her eyes were the same hazel, and someone who knew her really well would be able to recognize her. She flinched. She actually could control herself. The first thing to do was to get out of site. She went to take a step forward when she heard someone scream. She looked around and saw a mother and a toddler. The mother screamed "Wolf!" and ran away with the toddler in her hand. Cole thought fast and ran towards the wooden fence and leaped over it quickly. She landed on the other side.
It seemed less peaceful here. Like something was gonna pop out on her any second. She was careful. She was a wolf now, she could attack and win. Her heart beat hard. With each step she took, it grew faster. She found herself racing through the woods, strides huge and pistons flying back and forth. Her banner swung out behind her, her ears were perked and she finally scented mouse. Her mouth watered. As a wolf she could eat prey like this. She bent down and inched forward slowly and leaped up and snapped the neck of her prey. She dug selfishly into the meat, eating everything except for the bones. She laid the carcass there with the rest of the meat. She wasn't hungry anymore. A weakling could eat that if they really wanted it.
She thought about the time of day. Wolves were nocturnal. This wasn't safe. She ran across the forest, her paws thumping on the dust and sand, and her eyes filled with the need to be human again. Here came the fence. It was quite high. She pushed off from her haunches and landed on the other side of the fence with a thump. She landed hard, and she felt pain in her ankle. She went behind a tree and changed back into a human. She rolled on the ground, her ankle hurting like hell. She managed to limp back to the wooden bench and rested her ankle on the cold metal bars. That felt much better then laying it out in the sun so it could bake. She loved what she was. A wolf and a human. She was afraid that other people would make fun of her if they knew what she was.
Or even worse, people would come and lock her away, experimenting on her. She didn't know if there were other shape-shifters in town, or if she was the only one. She was quite curious. She couldn't just walk up to a random person and say "Hey are you a shape-shifter?" too ironic, to stupid, and too annoying. Plus, she would have people staring at her for the rest of the year with weird faces. She had heard about two gangs around town, but she never confronted someone in a "gang" or whatever they were called. They were supposed to be shape-shifters as rumored. She was never invited so she must've help her secret well, or maybe she wasn't good enough. She felt the pain in her ankle again and sighed. She didn't have much to do. The pain would ware away if she had turned into a wolf, but she didn't want to roam the forest until she was better.

My feet were killing me. Why was I here anyway? The Park Reserve. Quite a... quiet place? More so than I thought.
Isn't it supposed to be quiet?
It's a park.
Reserve.
A sharp, annoyed huff of breath escaped my lips as I snaked my fingers through my hair. Really though, it was quiet. The lush grass gently waved in the light breeze. The afternoon sun hung in the sky...
You're looking at the sun? Not only am I deaf, but now you want to make me blind?
… it's warmth gave nice comfort...
No way! Lyot is feeling emotion!
Can you not think for 5 minutes?
…
That's what I thought. The heat was probably the reason it was more quiet than normal. It's funny how it can be so hot during the near-end of winter. I casually stood beneath a tree, nicely shaded by the many flickering leaves. Next to me was an old bench, and when I say old; I mean old. It's armrests were rustic and the black paint had lost its luster and was peeling off. I wouldn't be surprised if someone replaced it soon.
I'm sure they will, after all, it's a quite well known reserve. Even if kind of out there.
You didn't make it very far.
Nope! No I didn't!
I shook my head lightly, thin, wispy strands of hair falling in front of my eyes. A frown crossed across my face as I gently pushed them away.
Picky anyone?
I don't think you would like blindness along with deafness.
Ri—
“Wolf!”
I snapped my head up. Wolf?
Wolf? Where? Who? When? What?
Who said that? I pulled my head up to where the scream echoed from. The call had brought on other onlookers, who glanced about in confusion. She had run off before anyone could notice where she was looking to. She huddled off as fast as she could pulling along her child. I shrugged nonchalantly, if she wanted to make a big deal out of nothing so be it.
Lyot! What if there really was a wolf?
Of course she might have seen a wolf. It's a park reserve. It's probably just beyond the fence.
Well let me go see then! I blinked furiously before moving toward the directi—
No! What are you doing? I took back control as I moved back toward the tree. My back scratched up against the rough bar—
Ow! No, we should help! What if the wolf tries something?! We can do something about it! I jerked forward, almost hitting my knee on the worn-down bench.
Stop! Stop! A headache was quickly forming. I winced with my eyes half shut, letting out a quiet groan. I had no doubt I was getting looks. I jerked backward toward the tree and—Ow!
… Lyot?
…
Hello? Lyot? Are you there?
…
Huh. Oh well. He'll be back. I frowned as I dusted off my shirt and rubbed my sore head. An annoying ringing sound thrummed in my ears. I almost felt queasy. Stupid headaches! Stupid Lyot! I let out a hasty breath and pursed my lips. Now what? Well... I might as well be useful and relax at the same time! Lyot was not pretty when he was mad.... As happy and unworried as ever, I turned around and, using the dirty bench as a leverage, I easily climbed up into the tree. With a gentle sigh, I leaned back toward the tree trunk.
A light throb in my head reminded me of the recent incident; It wasn't yet ready to face a tree. Well too bad! I very lightly leaned my head back—very, very lightly. With eyes half closed, I scanned the distance—more toward the fence. If anything, the animal was likely to come from there. Dizziness reached me as I lay resting. Craaaap. I couldn't fall into oblivion. If Lyot was knocked out... it wouldn't be pretty if I fell asleep either. So, I lay in the tree in wait... silence feel upon my deaf ears. Why me?
c o u n t! six-nine-seven m u s e! three/ten h e l l o! Cole n o t e p a d! He falls asleep. ^^ In da tweeee.
