Q: Can I roleplay my character as soon as I have posted them?
A: No. A member of staff has to read through and accept your application before you can roleplay with your character. The average length of time it takes for a character to be accepted (discounting when characters require editing) is a couple of days at most.
Q: Can I ask a staff member to recheck my character application if there has been no response?
A: Of course! If you haven't had a response on your character for a couple of days you can PM an appropriate member of staff and ask them to check your thread. You're also allowed to do this if you have edited your character application and would like a member of staff to recheck it. All we ask is that you do not nag us and that you don't send a PM to every single staff member.
Q: My character wasn't accepted. Can I ask a different staff member to read over it?
A: No. Once you get a staff member working to accept your character, that staff member is generally going to be the one who you're working with. You aren't going to get a different answer if you go to another staff member and ask them to accept you. Plus, it's a bit offensive.
Q: Does my character have to join a gang straight away?
A: Because we have a lot of gangless characters, we would appreciate if your character did join a gang. However, we are not forcing you to do this.
Q: Does my character have to know they are a Shifter when I make their application?
A: Not at all! Because Shifters can shift at any age for the first time (provided they are not ridiculously old) your character can come to Shelpey Alley without knowing they are a Shifter.
Q: Does my character have to be a Shifter?
A: Given that this is a shapeshifter roleplay, many characters here will be Shifters. As such, we do expect at least one of your characters to be a Shifter, too. However, you are allowed human characters, too.
Q: Everyone keeps posting in tables but I don't know how to do that. Am I allowed to?
A: Posting tables are enabled on Shelpey Alley so that roleplayers can both spiff up their posts, and make it easily identifiable what character it is they are roleplaying. Posting tables use a special UBBC code. If you don't know what this code is and want help you're free to ask our members or our staff for a helping hand.
Similarly, if you know what the code is but aren't very good at making the tables yourself, you're also allowed to make a request. Just remember to be polite.
Q: Is there a character limit on here?
A: Yes there is. The character limit on Shelpey Alley is five, and both Shifter and human characters are included in this count. Please read the [Rules] thread for more information.
Q: I want to become a staff member! How can I?
A: First and foremost, don't ask out of the blue. Certain times on Shelpey Alley we will allow members to volunteer to the staff team and ask them to post an application explaining why they feel they are fit for the job. Other times we may promote users who have been hard working, active and incredibly helpful.
Either way, if you ask out of the blue, demand or nag to become part of the staff team, the one promise we can make you is that you'll never have a place on staff.
Q: If my character is in a gang, are they allowed to appear in a roleplay in the territory of the opposing gang?
A: Most definitely. Thieves can enter Assassin territory and Assassins can enter Thief territory whenever they like. Just remember that your character does this at their own risk and there is every chance they can be caught.
Q: Can my character be found and killed if they are in enemy territory?
A: They can certainly be found, but your character can never be killed unless you give prior consent. Please consult our [Rules] thread to see what you can and can not do while roleplaying.
Q: Is there a minimum word count for posts?
A: No, because we understand that sometimes muse is low and posting might be harder than usual. We value quality over quantity. However, you are expected to post in your threads at LEAST ONCE per week. If you aren't meeting this standard, we're going to ask you to please excuse yourself from that roleplay.
Q: I don't think I can make such good posts, but I want to roleplay.
A: Shelpey has a mentor-like program where new members that need help roleplaying are paired up with other members in order to help improve their writing. A staff member might recommend that you join it if they feel that you are a little under par, or you can ask to be in the program.
