Silena made her way across the street from the restaraunte she'd just left. She'd had a light meal of spinach in a sort of mushroom broth, it had been very tasty. She didn't always eat at classy restaraunts like that, but she did it when she was feeling bored. She hadn't had anyone to hang out with and she hadn't had an highlights that day; nothing to think back on and smile about or scowl about. Nothing. It had been an over all drab day. Uneventful to say the least.
As she walked past the the intersection in the center of town, the sun casting a ripe-pumpkin-colored orange glow on everything, she crossed over the road and onto the section of grass that led up to the back of the large shopping mall. She was planning on spending a little cash today, to fill the little void in her day that had been marked as distastfully boring.
There were small trees dotting the area, some bushes and fresh, damp mulch. She inhaled deep, loving the smell of it. It almost made her want to shift right then and there and just go padding through the woods, go hunting and roll through fresh, mossy grass. Not many people knew this, but Silena had a very nature-like side. She enjoyed her shifted form very much--as many other sifters probably did--but she liked the wild feel, like she was a lion, untamable and able to go anywhere. She'd always liked to hike and then in the woods, she'd shift and run around, feeling free as ever. But she stopped the thought. She was too tired to go run around, it was getting dark and cold, and she had business to attend in the mall. She continued her trudge through the grass.

A heavy sigh permeated the late afternoon air as Thao, his eyebrows drawn together in a very worried expression, stared in melancholy at a mall directory. For a particularly cruel prank, his sisters had decided to drag him all the way to the mall - and then abandon him at the entrance. They had mentioned the name of the store he'd be able to find them in as they ran off, giggling like mad, but the corgi shifter had no idea as to where it would be. Sighing, he took another look at the confusing map. Instead of walking around like a moron for hours, he decided to check the directory. The scuffed plastic of the display held no clues to the whereabouts of his siblings, only more confusion as he tried to decipher what floor the store was even on.
Just as the teenaged clown was about to give up hope, sudden movement in the corner of his eye caught his attention. Turning his head, Thao saw that the movement was actually a woman, approaching the mall quickly. She was rather pretty, with exotic rust-colored hair that swayed gently in the faint breeze. Her eyes, a brownish-orange color that reminded Thao vaguely of his own, were focused intently on the gray mall building. Great! thought the young performer, an idea suddenly striking him. She might know where that blasted store is!
"Excuse me, miss?" Thao said quietly as he took a step towards the approaching woman. He hoped that he could catch her attention before she blew right past him, since she didn't show any signs of stopping. "I was hoping you could help me. See, my sisters kind of ditched me here, and I can't find the store they said they'd be in. It's something called 'The Last X?' I can't seem to find it on the map, and I really have no idea what kind of store it is." He waved his hand weakly at the plastic map for emphasis, a 'lost puppy' expression once again on his face. He was aware that he rambled a bit in his explanation, but he really needed help with his current situation. Otherwise, he'd be stuck in the mall until his sisters took pity and came to find him.
"So, yeah. Do you think you might help me, please?" said the corgi-shifter after a short moment of silence, offering a smile to the stranger.

On her approach to the large building looming up ahead, a boy stopped her, about her age. Her immediate reaction was a smile, he looked so cute with the dismantled expression on his face and his splay of brown hair on his head. She nodded, still smiling, as he explained his predicament. She snickered a couple times here and there, his sisters leaving him abandoned. Just this boys appearance put a sweet smile on her face (not the usual devilish one that she wore when she spotted new prey) his lost puppy ambience was refreshing to her and she couldn’t help but put a hand on his shoulder. It was thin and bony but warm all the same. “Of course, I was just heading up there actually. Follow me.” She turned around and was about to head for the escalator but she quickly turned on her heel and stuck out her hand. “By the way, I’m Silena.” And that’s when she spotted the symbol on his arm, claiming him as a shifter. She inconspicuously sniffed the air, trying to get a guild scent on him but she smelled none. She mentally shrugged to herself. Loner. she confirmed. She thought about how she would have been a loner, probably totally unbeknownst to her abilities if it hadn’t been for the Thief who had come and found her when she’d ran away from home. Maybe this boy would consider joining the guild, although he seemed fine enough as a loner. Still, she would leave the invitation with him, incase he wasn’t sitting right at home just as she hadn’t been. She looked back to the cute boy, still waiting for a name with a genuine smile. And it occurred to her that she hadn’t smiled like that for a long time. Not a genuine one, that is. She’d just been too bummed these last few months. Leaving home had had an affect on her, though she wouldn’t go back, but regardless, she was still dealing with issues.

It didn't take long for the woman to react to Thao's pleas, and before he knew it, an elegantly slender hand was resting on his shoulder and a warm smile was gracing the stranger's face. “Of course," said the woman, her voice as smooth as velvet. Her eyes, now fixed on Thao, shined with a strange light that the young clown couldn't quite place. Still, it wasn't a threatening sort of glint, so Thao let it slip from his attention. "I was just heading up there actually. Follow me.” The hand on Thao's shoulder slid off suddenly as the girl stepped forward, turning around quickly to hold her hand out. The corgi-shifter smiled gratefully, and took it as gingerly as he could.
“By the way, I’m Silena," the woman announced as Thao took her outstretched hand. The boy noticed that, as soon as their skin made contact, Silena's eyes flickered down to his wrist, his gaze following hers'. Thao immediately made a mental curse; his normal Lucky Charms watched had slipped further down his bony wrists, leaving his shifter mark in crystal-clear view. Laughing nervously, he tried to inconspicuously pull the watch back up into its proper place, and he hoped the beautiful girl didn't take much notice. "I'm Thao," he said at last, sheepish grin plastered on his face. "It's nice to meet you."
Part of the way up their escalator ride, Thao suddenly realized that he had yet to thank Silena for helping him with his venture. How rude of me! thought the taller boy, mentally reprimanding himself for forgetting his manners. "Um, Miss Silena?" he said softly, yet another grateful smile quirking his lips. "Thank you so much for helping me out. I would have been stuck there until the mall closed if you hadn't come along!"

Silena made a mental note of the boy’s reaction to her glancing at his wrist. Did he think she was just a human, curious about some body art? Could he tell she was a shifter as well? Weren’t they suppose to be able to recognize their kind? She’d ask him about it later, she decided, just as she would invite him to the guild. “It’s nice to meet you Thao.” She said politely, the way her nanny had always taught her. Every Sunday morning since she was four, her nanny would sit her down and make her learn her manners. After all, she had to represent her parents most of the time, so she wanted to make a good impression. She’d learned to curtsey, the proper etiquette for almost every social situation, and how to be lady like. It was almost like a Renaissance ball, with all of the corsettes and curtseying at all of those social events. Thinking of those things made her rather homesick. Her former home hadn’t been all bad. She erased the mind babble that was drawling through her brain and looked back at Thao.
As he thanked her, she laughed lightheartedly. “Don’t worry about, it’s no problem. Though, I do feel sorry for you. Your sisters sound fun.” She smirked. She would have done the same thing to her brother if she’d had a younger sibling. “So what are your sisters’ names?” She smiled. It was strange for her to feel so happy, but Thao’s aura just radiated hopelessness and she found it cute, like a puppy dog cute, and it just made her smile. She slipped her purse up her arm and folded her arms behind her back, swinging one hand as they went.
