The squirrel monkey sped over the boardwalk, running upright, her hands balancing an apple over her round head. The apple was much larger than her head, and was proving difficult to keep unbruised. She diced back and forth, leaning oddly here and there, trying to keep her balance aligned, her tail swishing behind her in an attempt to keep up. Her back was beginning to ache. Her spine wasn’t built to walk upright for too long, and her limit was quickly approaching. She had already carried the apple quite a ways. In a huff Misha placed the bright red apple down gently, trying to pick a clean spot on the wood of the walkway.
With a quiet chirp-like noise the small primate flopped to the ground, her curious eyes surveying the opening to the beach, which was just off the boardwalk. The scene was very pleasant, the sun almost dipping into the water, soon ready to set. The water was painted with blues, oranges, and pinks, the clouds like tufts of cotton candy.
Moments later, after regaining some of her energy, Misha lifted the apple, her delicate, tiny fingers wrapping around it, and hauled it up to her chest, the red top just under her chin. She wandered down the beach, trailing through the sand, miniature food prints following behind her.
The beach wasn’t particularly busy, no visitors immediately close enough to pester her, or to question the fact that the little monkey had stumbled into the area, carrying an apple, which was indeed an oddity, and would raise a few eyebrows if attention was properly paid.
She was a small creature, her coat mostly greyish-brown, with a white face, ears, neck, and belly, her limbs a flamboyant yellowy-orange. She had large, dark eyes, which seemed to be captured by the sunset. Silently, placing the apple by her side, she sat, hunched forward, one arm draped around the apple at her side, in a protective manner, a few metres from the waves.

He had to be top dog. He had to be better than the others. Stronger, faster, more flexible. He had to have a better tolerance for pain. His skin had to be thicker. He had to be fit, strong, exercised. He not only had to, he wanted to be all those things. He wanted to be the best, to be needed. Rohjyx would need him until he grew out of his strength; something that would never happen. He was destined to die at a young age, and not by natural causes. His life was too dangerous to live a long one.
He snapped his large maw down on the other dog, just above it's tail. It yelped and jerked away, yipping and running away with it's tail between it's legs. They'd tussled on the sand for less than a minute, and Tenma had ended up with not a scratch on him.
He strode on, a bandage around his left leg because he'd cut it falling through a window at the school. The stench at that place was god awful. He'd almost passed out from the odor.
Walking along the sand, he saw a... monkey. He didn't see many of those. It had an apple and was starring quite intently at the sea. He was so much bigger than the little primate. He couldn't tell how old it was because of the size difference. He walked up to it, and nudged it from behind with his nose.
"What're you looking at, stranger?" He questioned, sitting down and looking at the sea as well. He wasn't on a job from Rohjyx, just getting out of the old bar that he lived in for once. They got funny stares from the few people that saw them, but Tenma couldn't care less what the people did. Human or animal, they always stared at him. Animal because he was 'a dangerous beast' and human because he was 'a sexy beast'. God, he didn't understand people at all.

Misha sat, motionless apart from her breathing. The water, the sunset... it was so peaceful. Even after a long day, it seemed to draw away the unpleasant feelings. Not that the day had been especially tough, actually, it had been fairly uneventful.
Hazily, Misha listened as the footprints grew closer. She didn’t turn her head to see, from the sound alone she knew that it was a creature on four legs, and probably fairly large, judging by the crunching of the sand. That is, she didn’t turn to look until the creature nudged her with it’s nose.
Slowly she turned her head, watching the dog, her posture unthreatened, still tranquil.
"What're you looking at, stranger?"
For a few seconds Misha pondered his question. Taking her eyes off of him, she turned to watch the horizon again. Slowly she opened her mouth, speaking calmly. “The sunset. It’s beautiful.” She exhaled, slumping back into her half-meditation. Distantly, Misha was aware of the people passing by the pair, but they were too far away for her to care.
Misha looked up at the dog again, her eyes large, taking in just how big he actually was, in comparison to her. He must have been a shifter. This had been the first, in some time, that Misha had interacted with a fellow shifter. The squirrel monkey spoke again, “I’m Misha. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Her tone was fairly neutral, with a hint of interest.
“What brings you around here?”

“The sunset. It’s beautiful.”
Tenma did not see the beauty in another day going by. Another day closer to death was all it was. He didn't much care for sunsets, nor sunrises. He didn't care much for the sun at all, actually. He preferred night. He wasn't sure why, but he did.
“I’m Misha. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Tenma looked at the little monkey when she spoke to him. "That's not what most people say, but Hello, Misha." Tenma said, turning back to look at the waves. He did like water. Most dogs did, and he was no exception. It felt good to have water all around you, to be free- it was like flying in a way.
“What brings you around here?”
"Tenma; And I have business with some of the dogs on this beach. I just needed to get out of the bar and stretch my legs though, for the most part." Tenma said, stretching out on cue and sliding into the water. He sort of drifted around in the waves, not far enough into the water to have to swim just yet.
"Can monkey's swim, Misha?" Tenma asked for the sake of conversation, still swimming around in the water in front of the small monkey.

“...Just needed to get out of the bar and stretch my legs...”
Her eyes lingered over the dog, watching him slide into the water. Misha wondered if he had been referring to the abandoned bar. Most likely. Which means he must be a member of the Assassins. While this had little effect on her she took a mental note.
”Can monkey’s swim, Misha?”
“Well, monkeys, like me, are able to swim, though we aren't very good at it. It isn’t really considered an enjoyable pass-time.” She paused, stroking her chin with a finger. “I guess I’m only speaking for myself. I’ve never really met another monkey, but maybe someday I will.” She stepped closer to the water, leaving the red apple where it was, testing the temperature with her front hands. It wasn’t too bad. Not the warmest, but not unpleasant.
“This bar you were speaking of, do you live there?” Misha's head tilted to the side as she spoke, gazing curiously at the canine. For a moment she wondered what the shifter looked like as a human, wondering whether Misha had ever seen him before.
Slowly, Misha inched into the water, standing on her hind legs. The monkey's mouth stretched open, into something of a grin, her lanky arms hugging her torso. She stopped, the water roughly halfway between her knees and waist.

“Well, monkeys, like me, are able to swim, though we aren't very good at it. It isn’t really considered an enjoyable pass-time.”
"Really? I love swimming. I'm not sure why. Must be a dog thing." Tenma said, splashing around in the water, and slipping and going under for a brief moment. He only saw some white bubbles though, before he kicked up with his back legs and was above the water again. He shook his head, sending small droplets of water off of his face.
“I guess I’m only speaking for myself. I’ve never really met another monkey, but maybe someday I will.”
"Mmm..." Tenma muttered, swimming around in a circle. He hadn't really been listening all the much, more focused on swimming. He stopped when she spoke again, however.
“This bar you were speaking of, do you live there?”
"Uhn... Yeah." Tenma responded, finding it difficult to have a conversation when he was fighting a current. Ugh, currents. It was all because of sea water. Yuck.
Tire of swimming with his dog legs, Tenma shifted. He was already shirtless, so that was fine; his pants were soaked the instance he shifted, though. Well, up to just above the knee, anyway. He turned to the monkey on the shore, and stretched out a hand.
"Wanna swim as people, then?" He invited her with a gentle face; one that was rarely seen. He was usually somewhat dull and a bit emotionless. Today he felt good though, so he decided to loosen up a bit. And his invitation didn't have any big meaning; though he wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to do if she did take his hand. Damn him for not thinking that far, he scolded himself mentally.

Misha watched Tenma swim, splashing around in circles. She had to admit, it did look like fun, and she was very tempted to jump in as well.
“Uhn... Yeah.” Misha shifted her weight, wiggling her toes under the water as he spoke, her tail swishing slightly. She was fairly positive that he was an Assassin, now that he had confirmed his residence, though she decided not to pursue it any further. For the most part she had been avoiding interaction with the gangs, but she was already mid conversation with Tenma.
Her wandering thoughts paused as he shifted. Shirtless, the water was up to just above his knee. As she watched him she was almost thankful that she was in her squirrel monkey form, as her expressions were more difficult to read, otherwise, at this point, her face would have most likely been bright red.
”Wanna swim as people, then?” His expression was gentle, very welcoming. At this point she most definitely would have been red, especially as he extended a hand.
“Sure.” Misha backed out of the water, onto the dry sand, and shifted, a hint of pink on her cheeks. Quickly she pried off her sneakers and socks. She was glad to have worn her bathing suit under her regular clothes, as she was half expecting herself to take a dip anyway. In another moment her jeans were off, leaving her t-shirt on over her two-piece.
Grinning as she looked at him, Misha was quickly in the water, the small sixteen-year-old grabbing his hand, pulling him deeper into the salty water. Her grip was firm but delicate, allowing Tenma to easily break away, if he wanted to.
She turned to look at him with her large hazel eyes, her expression more or less harmless. “I haven’t been swimming in nearly a year.” She laughed slightly at the excitement in her own voice.

Tenma watched quietly as she shifted and undressed, and he could've said that he was extremely confused, but he didn't. He didn't feel like explaining that he didn't really understand human things. It made him feel like an idiot, but oh well. If she was fine half naked with him, then he was fine with it too. He hadn't really minded in the first place; he was born a dog, everyone was naked as a dog.
She came into the water, took his hand and sort of pulled him along. He heard comment from the people about being a couple. He ignored them. He didn't care much for people who gossiped.
“I haven’t been swimming in nearly a year.”
"So you can swim!" Tenma said, triumphant he'd figured it out. He bent over to look her in the eyes. "You're tiny." He teased, sticking his tongue out in a joking manner. He didn't pull his hand away; he would let her let go when she wanted to.
"Don't slip or we're both going down." He chuckled, the carefree atmosphere of the beach affecting even his sullen mood.

”You’re tiny” It was true, for her age she was exceptionally tiny. Tenma almost towered over her.
“I am a bit on the small side, I guess.” Misha grinned, Tenma’s comment seemed a bit on the blunt side, but it had a certain charm. “Or maybe you’re just a little bit tall.” The brunette edged further into the water, still able to touch the ground underwater.
"Don't slip or we're both going down."
She continued leading him, at least for a few more steps. Finally she left his hand, paddling into deeper water. She easily stayed afloat, returning her attention to Tenma. Under the sunset he was painted orange, pink, and yellow, and the water, bluey-purple. It would probably be getting dark soon. I might as well enjoy the last bit of daylight. Misha smirked meekly.
Swimming a half circle around Tenma, she spoke casually, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you around town. Do you go to school here?” She paused to wonder whether Tenma was even school aged, had he graduated already? “How old are you, anyway?”
Behind Tenma, further along the shore, Misha watched people leaving, probably packing it in for the day. No doubt the crowd would be back tomorrow, if the weather was this nice again.

“I am a bit on the small side, I guess. Or maybe you’re just a little bit tall.”
"Boys are supposed to be bigger, aren't they?" Tenma said, still sticking his tongue out. She released his hand, and for a second he thought she'd slipped underwater. But she was fine, and he quickly realized that. He himself though, slipped underwater. Though he did it intentionally. He swam under water for a bit, looking around at what could be seen. Not much, really. Some coral, pretty rocks, shiny stuff, all things you could see in an aquarium.
He could hear her underwater, even though her voice was small. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you around town. Do you go to school here? How old are you, anyway?”
He swam up until he could walk along the bottom again, then he attacked. Like a sharp he swooped in and picked her up in his arms playfully. "I don't go to school. It stinks. I'm Seventeen." He said after chuckling, then he gently put her down on her feet in the shallow water.
He glanced over his shoulder to look at the sunset; It was turning purplish blue and the hues of red and orange were fading. He brushed some of his hair out of his eyes. "It getting dark. What're we gonna do now, Misha?" Tenma asked, turning back to look at her with his faintly maroon eyes.
