"Yes mom, I know, I know. Besides, this is a nice, calm district of town. I'll be fine on my own here. No, mom, I'm not going to have any wild orgies. Yeah, I'll keep the place clean. Uh huh. Uh huh. I'll call you at least every two weeks, right. Yes mom. Yeah, Love you too. Bye." Kitten finally closed her cell phone, sticking it in her pocket after a very long conversation with her mother about why she was moving out. Her mother was so protective. She just- didn't know how to stop sometimes. Kitten wanted her privacy, and now she had it- a nice two bedroom apartment in a relatively calm district of town. No dogs allowed, thank god.
Kitten walked around the space in her new apartment. Two bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms. The bedrooms and full bath was upstairs, then downstairs was the Kitchen, Living room, half a bathroom[ergo, just a toilet and sink] and a room that was supposed to be a Den that had nothing really in it. There were still boxes all around, but her bed was set up, and so was the couch and the TV in the Living room. She had curtains up, as well.
Flopping down on the couch, she stared at the ceiling for a while, till a distinctive scratch could be heard coming from somewhere. She looked around, but found nothing. She got up, searching around, even opened her door to see if there was an animal at it- but still found nothing. So instead, she shifted.
The closed blinds prevented anyone to see into the apartment as the tigress prowled about her new home, searching for the source of this scratching. A peculiar scent hit her nose, and she followed it to a box in the living room. Pulling the box over with her overly huge golden paw, she looked in it.
She simply looked at the creature inside, unsure of what to do or say.

Crap. Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap.
Well this was the stupid idea of the year! Sleep in a box, no one will notice! It's garbage night in three days, no one will throw it out yet! The rat twisted in the box, after having fallen asleep in it the night before. Didn't actually consider it to be a MOVING BOX, did yah, Alice!? Her mind screamed at her as she clawed at the walls, her panic rising now that they had stopped rattling and twisting around on the truck and being moved inside. I can't even shift because of the size of the box! Imagine!
Oh, the box was thankfully empty, except for a few pieces of clothing or something. Whatever had been in the box had been taken out hours ago or something, cause it felt alot more crowded when the little- or rather medium sized- rat took residence in it. Alice had been so tired after spending a week without much food or shelter that the poor kid had taken to the box like a bird to a tree. Now she regretted it.
There was noise outside the box of a door opening, then relatching. Maybe the movers have left? Had there even been any? The rat started to dig furiously at the corner, chewing at what cardboard she could get between her already worn teeth. She froze, though, when light suddenly shone into the box. Her eyes instinctively snapped up, her body tensing to run. What she saw through her distorted vision chilled her blood; either that was a very well fed cat, or she was staring into the eyes of a siberian tiger.
Holy shit. She drew back her lips in a jittery attempt of showing aggression. A hiss followed the movement, and her fur was on end in an instant. She backed up against the corner, tucking herself in so she looked both large and small at the same time. I can take a cat. Cats are easy now. But tigers!? No way, I can't stand a chance- Why the hell is a tiger in an apartment anyway!? Where the hell did they take me!?

Kitten watched the medium sized rat push into the corner and hiss at her in an attempt to threaten her. Poor thing looked scared. "Err. Hey, are you a shifter? Or a tame rat? Don't worry- I won't eat ya." Kitten asked after a bit of thought, her voice calm. The rat looked a bit unhealthy, like it hadn't eaten in a while or had good water for a bit, either.
What did rats like to eat? Kitten thought for a moment, then remembered that she'd heard they liked Strawberries on a TV show. Kitten had Strawberries in the kitchen! She left the rat to find the Strawberries, clearing two rooms and getting to the kitchen easily. She hopped up on the counter, searching around for the fruit treat with her sensitive nose.
hey weren't on the counter, so she jumped down and went to the fridge. Hmm. Obstacle. How was a tiger to open a fridge, exactly? She stood up, front legs resting on the door of the fridge, back legs holding her up. She took the handle in her jaws and pulled, and to her surprise, the fridge easily opened. She dropped back down to all fours, looking inside the fridge then. There were many of her favorite treats, fish and other meat, along with some of her human favorites- chocolate and other such sweets. She resisted the temptation of the things she so loved in her tiger form, continuing her search for the fruits. She saw them near the back of the fridge, sitting alone in their container- not surrounded by anything else. She stuck a tiger paw in, pulling the container until it popped out into the floor.
Taking it in her jaws, she returned to the box, dropping the strawberry container in it, causing it to pop open and spill red strawberries into the bottom of the box. "You looked sorta hungry. I heard rats like strawberries." Kitten explained, a grin upon her giant feline features.

The rat stopped hissing mid-sound and stared, her eyes snapping open wide as the tiger ran off after asking if she was in fact a shifter. Doi, that explained everything! This wasn't a tiger, it was another shifter! The little albino rat nearly slapped herself in the face for being so stupid.
Of course it's a shifter, Alice. She watched the big orange cat leave with a sigh of relief. She's not about to kill me then. And there's no reason to be afraid, then. But where is she going? The little rat stood on her hind paws meerkat-style and sniffed the air, catching only the scent of tiger and box. Deciding she couldn't jump out without tipping the box over ontop of her, Alice came back down on all fours and curled up into the corner to wait. She can't just ignore me. Wrapping her tail around her, she sighed. I wonder if she's one of the guild shifters I've heard so much about. I hope she's not an assassin though...
Her toughts cut short when there came a clattering of a container, followed by a few other, softer clunks. The poor white rat nearly leapt out of her skin, whirling around and dashing to the other corner with a squeak. Holy mother of Christ! Her eyes snapped over to the cause of the noise, and there was the tiger, speaking to her again about bringing her strawberries. So that's what just hit the box. She eyed the tiger, then the berries. Looks safe...
Alice made quick work of running over, grabbing one in her teeth, and backing into the corner again. Between bites, she chirped up to the tiger. "Thank you. I haven't eaten anything real in days." Nom nom nom. "I am a shifter, actually. My name's Alice. I assume you are one as well?" Her head tossed up as she 'spoke', pausing to look at the tiger a moment before she dove back into her meal. Sour, sweet, and juicy with plenty of sugar. Sooo good.

"Thank you. I haven't eaten anything real in days." Nom nom nom. "I am a shifter, actually. My name's Alice. I assume you are one as well?"
"Me? Yeah, I'm a shifter too. Not every day a tigeress purchases a cool pad like this." Kitten chuckled, sitting down. "I'm Seventeen; yet I value my freedom and pushed my mom to let me move out. Great, isn't it? How old're you, Alice? And... why didn't you just shift and buy something if you were hungry...?" Kitten asked aloud, wondering herself. Kitten's mother had always bought food for her, and most adults could take care of themselves well enough. Unless this was a kid, Kitten couldn't really see why she had not been well fed.
Kitten laid down then, stretching out and rolling on the cold hardwood floor of the living room. Then she got up, chasing around a ball she had spotted while stretching. She did that for a few minutes, before growing tired of it and returning to the box. This time she sat down cross legged, and peered inside the box. She couldn't understand what Alice was saying now, but she could still hear her squeak.
Gently, she lifted the rat out of the box and put her on the floor, carefully as possible. "Go on. Shift." Kitten persuaded, a smile upon her now human features.

Nibble, nibble...
"Me? Yeah, I'm a shifter too. Not every day a tigeress purchases a cool pad like this." Kitten chuckled, sitting down. "I'm Seventeen; yet I value my freedom and pushed my mom to let me move out. Great, isn't it? How old're you, Alice? And... why didn't you just shift and buy something if you were hungry...?"
Her ears flicked up to listen better, and she tilted her head away from the food to look up at her companion. The tiger disappeared, and she felt alot more comfortable now. "I'd like a tour of this 'cool pad'?" The rat offered just as she detected the changing scents, in hopes the other shifter had caught it before it became mindless squeaks. She went back to nibbling, and mused over her memories as she awaited the older girl's shift to finish.
It was funny. A few months prior to the little rat running away, she had thought to be the only one. That she had some sort of super power, like those guys on tv or in the comic books. The fact that she had seen her share of shifters since running away made it all to real to her that she was another race, rather than a superhero. It had been so painfully obvious, and she felt like a total moron for it at the time.
Her thoughts broke off then, and she was lifted from the box carefully. Her tail curled and wrapped around the girl's hands, and she crouched, dropping her berry as she steadied herself. Going up...! And then down, she was on the floor. The semi-blind albino took a chance to look around, and as she did, she backed away and shifted.
It was fluid and graceful, from years of constant practice. Her body shifted all at once, her tail remaining up until it no longer matched her size, and then faded into her. She kept curled, lacking the know-how for shifting clothes. Either way, it had been a long time since the little shifter girl had used her human form. Her hair toppled along her shoulders and face in a groomed but rough-edged mess, and she kept her arms and legs covering herself.
"Ehh... I'm a touch underdressed. Got anything I could burrow?" Her voice was clear and calm, soft to listen to and a touch shy. It was clear as day that this girl was still growing and maturing, and her voice carried it too. She was small, not standing very tall yet, with an underfed hitch along her sides, showing off her ribes just a bit. She looked up finally, proving her albinism to be human as well with red-pink eyes contrasting her hair. Her shifter's mark was painfully obvious on her throat, and scars from various attempts at ridding herself of it were aswell.
"My name's Alice, by the way. To answer your question.. I think I'm about fourteen now... but I don't know the date." She looked away, still covering herself. "I didn't shift... because I wasn't safe to. I hitched a ride in that box before you moved it here." She tossed her head in the direction of the box, hesitated, then shuffled over to it without revealing herself. One arm reached out, and she grabbed up another berry, popping it in her mouth delicately and returning her arm to her chest. "Are you in one of the guilds?" Once she had finished eating she looked over and asked, her eyes gleaming with a steady but uncertain shine. Something wasn't right. Alice's eyes were alert, and her stance didn't say much for bravery. The fact that she had slept overnight in the box, and probably most of the day before, also didn't make sense.. if the tigress would care to think about it, of course.

'Tour? Ah yeah, I can do that- no problem. The house is big and nice, but it's not big enough to get lost in. Like. Three people could live here, at most. Huh. This place goes for a good price. >3' Kitten thought, waiting patiently for the young girl to shift.
"Ehh... I'm a touch underdressed. Got anything I could burrow?"
Kitten blinked, looking at the young girl before her. Why was she naked? Kitten's suspicions were furthered. Surely no parents would let their child run around indecently? What was this kid's story? Why on earth did she seem to be increasingly more... abandoned in Kitten's head?
"I dunno if I'll have anything that'll fit you, but I can go see. I think I might've brought some clothes from my Junior High year with me, I'm not sure- I'll go check." Kitten said with a reassuring smile, getting up and jogging up the stairs to her room. She opened box after box, searching for something that might fit the smaller girl. She found a pair of old pajamas that would probably fit the girl. They consisted of silk pink-striped pajama pants and a red lace tank top shirt. Nothing too... frivolous. She got up from her knees and descended the stairs, handing the clothes to the girl.
"These should fit you, I don't have anything along the lines of underwear that would really fit you, though. Sorry about that." Kitten said with a somewhat anxious smile, plopping herself down on the floor in front of the girl. "There's a bathroom right there, if you're uncomfortable." Kitten said, pointing to a door just before the Kitchen to the left, a chuckling to lighten the tension. She couldn't help but notice the shifter mark on her neck, and the numerous scars overlapping it. What had happened to this girl?
"My name's Alice, by the way. To answer your question.. I think I'm about fourteen now... but I don't know the date." She looked away, still covering herself. "I didn't shift... because I wasn't safe to. I hitched a ride in that box before you moved it here."
"It's a cute name. Suits a cute girl like you." Kitten said with a gentle, reassuring smile. She didn't want her first guest to feel uncomfortable. "Nah, not in a gang yet. I was thinking of joining the Thieves for a while, I was really enthusiastic about it, too. But now, I just don't know anymore. I think I kinda like being neutral- I can interact with anybody." Kitten said, scratching her head and grinning.
"So Alice... there's something I'm not getting. You're really young to be running around naked and hitch hiking in boxes... What's goin' on?" Kitten asked, her face and tone delivering her concern for the young shifter girl. Something about the girl hadn't clicked in her head from the start- and now the picture was starting to become clearer. The kid was alone, hungry, thirsty most likely, only fourteen, had no clothes, and was hitchhiking in boxes. Needless to say, even in Kitten's overly optimistic mind, there was just something... wrong with that picture. There were no boundaries. No rules. And she had to survive on her own. Either she was an orphan, or, as her scars suggested to Kitten, she'd run away from home.

"I dunno if I'll have anything that'll fit you, but I can go see. I think I might've brought some clothes from my Junior High year with me, I'm not sure- I'll go check." Alice glanced up and offered a shy smile and a nod, watching the other move away. Nice of her to offer some despite her doubts. Those red eyes stared after her at the base of the stairs, her tongue slipping out to lick at her lips. I could use some meaty foods though. It's been a while.
Her feline friend returned with clothing, and the rattie shifter snatched the top first. "Thanks!" She shook her head at the bathroom mention, and dressed quietly as the other girl answered her earlier words. A soft thank you was murmured at the mention of her name suiting her, and once dressed, she sat cross legged across from the girl, her hands working at getting her ruffed hair under control.
"So Alice... there's something I'm not getting. You're really young to be running around naked and hitch hiking in boxes... What's goin' on?" Shit. Those red eyes snapped back over to her, and Alice tensed noticably. There was a pause, hesitation, before the younger shifter sighed in defeat.
"I was caught." She paused, not meaning to add to the effect of it all. "I didn't mean to... but because of it, I ended up trapped in a wall... for a whole twenty-four hours... as a rat." She tucked her legs up to her chest, and hugged her knees to her chin. Those eyes clouded with a hinted mixture of fear and regret. But she continued. "I can't go home if I'm not human anymore. My parents hate me anyway, there's no point." Another pause, then her eyes narrowed as her lips pulled back into a sneer.
"There's nothing on tv or radio about me. They don't even care that I'm gone."

Kitten smiled as the girl got dressed, the clothes really did fit her! She was a bit surprised, but happy nonetheless. Kitten watched her comb her fingers through her hair, waiting patiently for the pressing question she had asked to be answered.
"I was caught." She paused. "I didn't mean to... but because of it, I ended up trapped in a wall... for a whole twenty-four hours... as a rat."
"Aww, hun I'm so sorry. That must've been horrible. As much as I love my tiger form, I just don't think I could live my life as one. All those unwanted instincts, those powerful urges that I just wouldn't be able to control.. It would suck." Kitten said sympathetically, the smile gone from her face as she looked at the girl.
She listened intently as Alice told her that her parents didn't care, and that her home life hadn't really been all that wonderful. "Well if you're thinking like that, then maybe it's better this way. Hey, you've got all the freedom in the world at your hands kid. If you need a place to crash, this place is big enough for three or more so you can live here with me if you'd like. First though- you look hungry. Want some grub?" Kitten offered, standing up and stretching, before moving toward the Kitchen and lingering in the doorway, looking back at Alice.
"C'mon, I can make something at least edible for you." Kitten offered her a soft smile, telling her she'd be alright.

"Aww, hun I'm so sorry. That must've been horrible. As much as I love my tiger form, I just don't think I could live my life as one. All those unwanted instincts, those powerful urges that I just wouldn't be able to control.. It would suck."
Alice listened quietly as her tiger friend spoke, and after a bit, a small smile came to her face. "Being a tiger would be pretty bad..." She tried to imagine a tiger like her new friend walking down the streets of Shelpey, and the tiniest of snicering laughs broke through her depressed shell. "At least people can ignore a rat." She smiled now, bringing her hands up to her chin and clasping them together, hiding her chest and neck from view.
"Well if you're thinking like that, then maybe it's better this way. Hey, you've got all the freedom in the world at your hands kid. If you need a place to crash, this place is big enough for three or more so you can live here with me if you'd like. First though- you look hungry. Want some grub?"
She perked up instantly, her smile vanishing into a look of shock. "Me? Stay here?" Her voice was incredulous, and she sat there open-mouthed for a second, even as her friend continued talking. She'd let me stay here, even though I must've broken like, fifty shifter-based laws!? Do we even have our own set of laws...? She mentioned wanting to join Theives guild.. maybe we both could, if she decided to?
"C'mon, I can make something at least edible for you."
Her head snapped up and her thoughts broke instantly. "Food?" She hadn't noticed Kitty moving away, or the previous mention of food. But now, the petite girl hurried to her feet, stumbling a bit from lack of balance. She wobbled once standing, her arms out to balance herself as she got used to her human form again, then once confident in her ability to stand, started over towards the kitchen. "It's been a while since everything looked this small..." She paused mid-step and looked herself over. "I wonder if I've grown at all?"
Shrugging it off, she jogged over to stand beside her host/friend and smiled brightly. "I'm starved! If you have any money, maybe we could order pizza?" Mmm.. Pizza! Alice hadn't had that for years, thanks to her parents making it hard to order or buy any. But now, this new promise of freedom...! I might as well live here. Maybe she can take me shopping for clothes, and I can find a job... She's nice, I wouldn't mind living with... Realization hit her, and she stiffled a curious laugh."I never caught your name...?"
