Do you dream that the world will know your name? So tell me your name...
And do you care about all the little things? Or anything at all...
The breeze scooted the leaves across the pavement, their swirls seemed almost paranormal. They seemed to have a mind of their own. The smaller tree's bent just slightly enough to wave at the new-comer, not that she paid any attention. She pushed back her ivory locks, which scrambled around her head in the small winds. The weather was nice, fairly warm for fall. She was surprised at the absense of children at the park on such a day. Although, she remember there was school that day, which was exactly where she needed to be. She had decided to wait a day or two until she started there.
What am I gonna do now... the girl sighed. True, she had left on her own account, but she still missed it. Things weren't they so bad, were they? Stop it she told herself. Things were impossible. If they hadn't been, you wouldn't have left. She fell onto a bench, slouching to rest her face in her hands. Her gaze wandered out into the park. It was almost like she was drawn there, probably because of the familiarity of the place... They had plenty of these back in MD. There were so many little ones to play around in them, and the gang would hang around after the street lights came on. The gang...
Putting her past behind her was going to be alot harder than she thought.

Trinell yawned, sleepy, and ambled along through the park, her music blaring through her headphones and into her ears. The song was "The Worm and The Bird" by The Used. She loved the song, to put it simply. It made her giggle somehow. Breaking free of the trees, she glanced around the park -an old habit to make sure she wasn't being followed- and blinked, tilting her head to the side, when she spotted a girl slouched on a bench. She looked lost. Lost and sad. Instantly, Trinell felt a stab of sympathy go out to the girl. She knew that feeling all too well. Reaching up with one hand, she turned off her music and, just to be polite, pulled her headphones down around her neck as she walked for the girl. She smiled kindly at her, stopping when she was standing near the bench she was on. "Hello, are you new here?" She asked. "You looked lost." She added, smiling a reassuring smile.

The voice snapped her out of the memories. "Huh? oh... Yeah, I'm kinda new around here..." she replied, turning her eyes up to the girl. She looked to be the same age, her head phones resting around her neck suggested she was also trying to lose herself in a different world. The breeze subsided as Nova shifted and sat up. "Um, where is here exactly?" she asked, feeling extremely stupid for not having a clue as to where she was.

Trinell smiled as the girl looked up at her, seemingly surprised. She blinked when the girl asked where "here" was exactly. 'Did she run away from home or something?' she thought to herself, mildly surprised. Her eyes showed it, but not her voice. "This is Shelpey Alley," She said, waving her arms as if to motion to the whole city. "I'm Trinell, by the way. Do you mind if I sit here?" She asked, motioning to the seat next to the girl.

"Not at all" Nova responded, sliding over to give the girl room. "Nice to meet you Trinell, I'm Nova... Shelpy Alley?" An almost confused look came across her face. Did I really travel that far? She had never heard of this place.
Are there others here like me? Nova preferred shifters over humans because she felt as though she could trust them. Humans were scared of anything different, most that she had met seemed to be bent on weeding out the shifters... This didn’t sit well with Nova, it swelled such an anger inside her. “What’s it like here?” she asked, pulling at her sleeve out of habit to make sure the tiny mark on the inside of her wrist was covered.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Nova," said Trinell with a smile, seating herself beside the girl. "What's it like here?" Asked Nova, tugging on her coat sleeve. Trinell's eyes instantly darted down for a split second, force of habit, and she thought she caught a glimpse of a marking like her own, the Shifter's Mark. Then she jerked her eyes back up, smiling pleasantly, and pushed the notion away. 'No way,' She thought to herself. 'I doubt it's the Mark. Probably got hurt or something,' She added. "Well, it's really nothing much here. We've got basically all the normal things that any city would have, including the people," She rolled her eyes at that and said, unconsciously, "Those who know about us hate us." She laughed slightly for a moment, then realized what shehad said, her eyes going wide and jaw slack. Her mind went blank; she couldn't think of anything to cover her words up with! 'Oh, dear God! PLEASE let her be a Shifter! I don't want to have broken the first rule!' She screamed mentally, eyes frantic.

Of course, Nova had been listening to the girl explain about Shelpy Alley… but the breeze kind of drifted off with her words. It was just like any other city, but cities weren’t really her thing. She preferred suburbs and towns far away. She preferred to be lost in the millions. Now it’s a million minus one she thought, almost grimly. This entire situation was a nightmare.
Then suddenly everything stopped. "Those who know about us hate us."
Us? Nova didn’t want to hope too much, but what did this girl mean by us?
… all she could do was laugh. Was she to actually end up in a city full of shifters? How funny would that be. How ironic. She held back a smirk. “Trinell… who’s us?” she asked, peering into the girl, trying to pull the right answer out of her.

Trinell didn't know what to think as Nova laughed. The noise was happy; it was a dry, mirthless sound. It was as if she couldn't believe her ears.
'And why should she believe them?! I practically broke the first rule of the Shifters! You're never supposed to tell anyone who isn't a Shifter about Shifters!' Screamed Trinell mentally, absolutely terrified. She had no clue about what could happen if that kind of knowledge landed in the wrong hands, and she was far from willing to find out. 'Wait, wait, wait. Calm down now, girl. There was what appeared to be the Shifter's Mark on her wrist. If it really is the Shifter's Mark, then you're safe. Just tell her to show you her wrist that she covered and then you'll tell her.' She told herself, calming herself enough to think and act efficiently.
"I'll tell you on one condition, Nova. You have to show me what is on the wrist that you pulled your sleeve down on. If what I think is there, you won't be disappointed by what I have to tell you." She said firmly, leaving no room for negotiation. Either she was shown or she wasn't. It was Nova's decision. If she wanted to know that badly, then she'd show her. If not, then she would never know. At least, not from Trinell she wouldn't. She had already told her too much without the concrete knowledge that she was a Shifter.

If it were true, she almost broke the first rule. But it has to be true, doesn’t it? Other wise, how could this girl say such a perculiar thing? Nova wondered. Her laughing subsided and the mood shifted to an almost awkward silence. She studied Trinell. What was she? Knowing no answer would come, she jerked the sleeve of her jacket up. This revealed her mark entirely.
“You almost broke the first rule T” she said, assuming this girl had to know. If by any chance she didn’t and really was just a crazy human child, Nova would leave town. She wasn’t sure if this city was where she belonged anyways...

Trinell heaved a huge sigh of relief as Nova jerked her sleeve upwards, revealing her Mark. Oh, thank God!
"You almost broke the first rule T." Said Nova, Trinell almost in tears. She didn't care. She was just glad that luck was on her side this time.
"Oh, God you have no idea how terrified I was that I had. Thank God!" She gasped, one hand over her heart. "Anyways, 'us' are the Shifter's in town. This place is practically a gold mine, though the researchers don't think so. They think this is actually a fairly empty place Shifter's wise." She added, smirking. "They don't know that we're just good at hiding." She winked, haughty.
