The light penetrated through her shutters and fell atop her face. As if on cue, Tameri groaned at the inconvenience and wished the sun didn't exist at that precise moment. It took just a few moments for the young woman to really wake up, but she stayed in bed anyways. She wasn't in a hurry to go anywhere or do anything specific. But why did she wake up so early?
Tameri pushed herself out of the comfort of her sheets and began the morning routine. As she prepared herself for the day Tamer's thoughts began to stray. So far, her stay here had been quite uneventful. She'd only been here for a couple of weeks though, maybe her luck would change for the better and she would get a job? Okay, get a job. That doesn't sound so bad. Tameri thought to herself. Maybe if she'd moved to a different place, her job prospects would've been a little better. Shelpey Alley would have to do. Tameri hadn't planned on moving again for a while. Especially now that she'd found a nice room to rent here in the suburbs.
She'd gotten clean and dressed for the day. Today she had on a pair of dark boot-cut jeans that rested nicely on her hips. Over that, she'd donned on a black polo shirt- she tried to go for the business casual look, in case she did end up applying for jobs. As always, her jet black hair was let down, cascading gently just beyond her shoulders. Tameri tucked a few tendrils behind her ear and was ready to be on her way.
Tameri slipped out the door quietly so as not to wake her gracious hosts. Once outside, Tameri breathed in the morning air and welcomed the sun once more against her face and arms. It was nice outside. Tameri began walking along the sidewalk, unsure of where she had to go. For now, the twenty-two-year-old was content on just being outside . She walked aimlessly down the sidewalk, enjoying the company her thoughts provided her.

Ah relaxation. Simply paradise. It was a thing of beauty really. Amber stretched across the thick branch she lay on, her lithe body forming ripples of muscles. Amber sighed in content, she really didn't know why she was in a tree... well she did, but she didn't know why she was in a tree that was located... away from the harbor. She loved the smell of fish and salt in the air, the freshness of the breeze, the happy screams of kids. It wasn't picture perfect, no, but it was certainly close to it. It was life.
Amber's eyes reflected the light, her pupils narrowing to slits, as she gazed at the horizon. The sun was already making its move into the morning sky, casting smokey shadows. Amber felt like doing something, but at the moment she felt a little lazy... maybe she'd wait for something to happen, for something to come to Amber. Would it be worth the wait? Only time will tell.
Amber lie there a moment contemplating on what to do next. Her fur heated under the sun's rays, guess that meant it was time to move. The feline slanted her eyes in a moment of lasting peaceful tilting her head. Amber rolled her shoulders and with her claws gripping tightly on the branch, she stood up. She was slightly shaky as she didn't tend to be the type of cats to climb trees. Amber had once sat on a roof though, the view was nice. She liked the roof better, but the tree smelled more of nature.
She glanced around, only spotting one person and a car passing every long minute or so. Of course no one was up at this time, it was kind of summer after all. She loved it, more time to herself. She was slightly disappointed at the thought of summer being almost over, but Amber shrugged it off, 9th grade wouldn't be so bad... hopefully. She had a good, many friends, but she only hoped she would get kind teachers and have her friends in her classes. Amber shook her pelt, summer would come again.
Amber gazed at the girl passing by. She flicked her head, no time to get distracted. Amber arched her back up and grunted as she felt her muscles loosening up. Ahhh... She took a deep breath and blinked, ready to move. Okay, now... Well it was certainly easy getting up, but Amber couldn't exactly remember how cats got down... like a bear? Or did they just, jump off? The tree was a ways away from the ground, but the lush grass did somewhat look soft... but Amber knew better.
Umm... what to do now. Well, to get down the trunk, she'd probably have to turn around first. Amber carefully curled her body and lifted a paw to move behind her. The cat lightly put her weight down, testing the branch. It seemed to hold. Well of course it'll hold, it's holding you now! Amber looked more confident than she felt... she took a breath and twirled around quickly. The faster she did it, the faster it would go.
Suddenly, Amber's back leg twisted off of the branch. Whoops! Amber's lower half of her small body fell off. Her claws scored against the tree branch leaving small scars. Oh poor tree, but poor Amber, she was about to fall! She struggled in the air, kicking her legs and trying to pull herself up. She had stronger arms than legs, sadly it was affecting her now... Amber yowled for help. Maybe the ground wasn't so far, but she didn't want to land wrong!

It hadn't seemed like a long time to Tameri. She had probably only been walking for five maybe ten minutes at most. When she spotted the feline it was a peculiar scene. Tameri paused and watched with intrigue as the cat began to struggle. The yowl that pierced the air was heart-wrenching for Tameri, but her insticts told her to stay. Hmm. Why was that? Tameri had a kind of natural aversion towards felines (especially Lions). The greater cats of Egypt seemed too pompous and flashy. But maybe that was just her inner hyena being sour.
This cat, however, was just a regular house cat. Or so it seemed. Tameri sighed and at long last forced her legs to move. She closed the distance in a few strides. Upon reaching the poor cat Tameri lifted her arms as if to reach for it. Of course, even she found the branch to be too high up. A small crease distorted her forehead. She could climb the tree and save the feline that way. Tameri would have to rely on her animal instincts on that one. How did you climb a tree? She came up on a blank. The only memories she had of trees in her hyena form involved her peeing on them.
The girl backed a few paces and looked up at the cat whose grip was being severely tested. She had only been here for a few seconds and Tameri had already acknowledge the awkwardness of the situation. She fought her primary instinct that told her to just keep walking. Now, she regretted not listening to it, but only a little.
"Alright, Cat. I'll catch you if you let go." Tameri muttered, assuming of course that the feline could not comprehend her human words. Tameri now positioned herself below the cat, ready to catch the poor thing if it fell, and just as ready to let go of the damn thing in case it wasn't friendly. Wow. This felt weirder and weirder. The hyena helping the cat! Tameri forced herself to believe that it wasn't as bad as it sounded or looked. "Come on little guy." Tameri tried to coax the distressed cat. Her murky green eyes remained fixed upon Amber's rump.
The summer sun beat down on the scene and for a second, Tameri wondered what this could have looked like from the outside.

Amber's ears perked up, "Alright, Cat. I'll catch you if you let go." A small murmur sounded behind her. Amber titled her head down, but she couldn't see who was talking, though she was sure it was female. She kicked her legs helplessly, could she trust this person? Amber was rather nervous, she couldn't even see the person. Really, what if they tricked her and moved at the last second? Cats always land on their feet. Flooey. Her ears drooped, did she really have a choice? It was either that or fall to the ground.
Her sensitive ears picked up the slight shuffle on the grass. Did that mean this person was going to help her? Amber meowed in distress, she wasn't sure! "Come on little guy." Little? Guy? Amber wasn't that little! She was a full grown cat! Not a mere kitten! And she certainly wasn't a guy. Jeez. The feline meowed her dis-contempt at the comment. Well, it's not like she would know anyway... Amber tried a couple of more times to lift herself up.
Sometimes she got her chin on the branch, but then she would fall. Dang, if only she strengthened her arms more. Not to self; exercise arms. This would not be a problem if she only had thought earlier. What else did she have to do to be comfortable to be living as half a cat? Bathe more? Keh, she did that already. Keep her fingernails well trimmed, but not too short? Well that was already done too, but it would be worth remembering. Sharper claws sharper claws.
Amber heaved herself up, bringing her hind legs to her paws, just like a... monkey? She wasn't sure. Her back claws magically managed to snag onto the branch. Yes! Now to... bring my arms up. Amber was stuck though. Now her back was beginning to hurt, immediately she leg to of her hind legs. Well that didn't work out... she grumbled to herself. Finally she mewed, "Well.. uummm... o-okay. But you better catch me!" And with that she closed her eyes and slid off the branch.

If Tameri had normal human reflexes she'd be a sorry excuse for a shapeshifter. Thankfully, she was prepared for the cat's fall and knew what she had to do. I mean, it wasn't rocket science or anything; Tameri just had to make sure she didn't move. The young woman continued to watch the cat struggle, wondering when it was going to accept that it had met its match. She shifted her weight impatiently from left foot to right foot and waited in the hot sun. Dang. She shouldn't have worn that black polo. Or jeans.
Tameri waited. Any moment now. The cat's last meow seemed to hold a tone of finality to it, kind of like she was getting ready to let go. Tameri didn't think she imagined it. She watched calmly as the cat finally allowed herself to slide off the branch. Instinctively, Tameri braced herself but kept her arms extended and apart, waiting to feel the heaviness that meant the cat had landed safely. The whole thing seemed to last a second because the next thing she knew, Tameri felt her upper half straining to keep the cat in her arms. With an audible oof Tameri awkwardly held the cat in her arms.
It took another second for it to register that the cat was out of the tree and no longer struggling. She looked down at the lump of fur she had been holding. She didn't think of herself as a cat person. Tameri decided it best to put the house cat down before she got any other crazy ideas. She bent over gracefully and removed her supporting arms from beneath the cat. "Nice cat." Tameri spoke quietly as if complementing a friend that was not there. An amused smile tugged at the corners of her lips and she watched the cat for but a moment. "Where's your owner?" She inquired outloud and to nobody in particular.
The black-haired girl looked around, as if trying to locate a little kid or an old lady who could possibly be missing this cat.

Amber felt her bank land in the hands of a person, it wasn't so bad after all. Wheeww. She really didn't plan on doing that again anytime soon, she'd stick to roofs. Amber murmured her thanks even if the girl couldn't understand her. The feline finally turned her head to get a good look at her savior. It was a girl, something like a college year student, with boot-cut jeans and a black polo shirt. She nearly looked like a professional, was she? Amber shrugged it off, it didn't mean anything to her.
She had dark black hair that fell past her shoulders like Amber's own hair. The were both similar in many ways, except... Amber was younger, and a shifter. The girl puffed out a breath and looked down at her. Amber flicked her ear in greeting, though it would mean nothing to a human. She bent down and let the cat roll off her hands. Amber immediately plopped down and licked a few stranded fur clumps clean. Yes. Roofs. Only. Now. Yeah.
"Nice cat." The girl spoke quietly. Amber tilted her head at her, nice cat huh? What an odd thing to say to a cat. Not even pet her? Oh well... Amber stood up and shook her pelt, eager to get back home. She began padding off, away from the girl, but headed in the same direction, "Where's your owner?" Amber paused and turned her head around as if tasting the words. Owner. Uhh, not here?
Her sharp gaze looked across the neighborhood with the girl, nope, no one. So... now what? She figured she didn't necessarily have to go home. Maybe she could just follow the girl around? People were funny when they were alone with animals sometimes. Then again Amber didn't want to stop her from wherever she was going... she swiped her tongue across her muzzle. Oh well, just go with the flow Amber. Go with the flow.

Tameri watched the cat curiously now as it padded quietly away. Was it her moral obligation to return this cat to its owner? No. Of course not! Should she act as if it’s her moral obligation? Maybe. Tameri walked over to the cat and with certainty picked it up with both hands. She supported the cat’s rump with one hand while positioning it such that the cat’s paws could rest comfortably on her shoulder if it liked. ”Okay let’s see…” Tameri looked around, trying to assess the situation at hand.
She began to walk down the sidewalk. She planned on stopping and asking the first person she saw. Tameri grinned at the thought. Boy, was she going to look like a dumbass. Oh well! She knew that walking around aimlessly with a cat was much better than going job hunting. Besides, it’s not like she needed the money. Companionship on the other hand…
As she carried the cat, which proved to be heavier than it looked, Tameri noticed that it had no collar on. Was it a stray? Now that Tameri noticed, it didn’t smell like a stray cat. It didn’t look like one either. This particular cat fit the model of being a standard house cat. She bit her lip. So now what? Walking in the middle of the sidewalk, cat in hand, Tameri kept on. ”Well Cat, I wonder how stupid I look right now. I’m glad I helped you out though. As much as I don’t like cats.”
Tameri cut herself short. What was she doing? Oh well, it’s not like the thing understood her. She pressed on in search of this cat’s owner. She half expected that the cat would not reunite with its owner today. Then what? Tameri toyed with the idea of owning a pet cat. Hah!

Amber felt her body leaving the ground, what the... Amber found herself yet again in the girl's arms. She meowed in protest, she could walk for herself... she twitched her whiskers, there really wasn't anything she could do now. At least she knew how to hold a cat then! Her arm easily supported Amber as she sat patiently on the girl's hand, leaning over her shoulder. "Okay let's see...." The girl turned around in circles, Amber resisted rolling her eyes. That would look weird for a cat, but since she was facing away from the human...
The feline's piercing gaze casually looked around, blinking as if in confusion. Well... now what was this girl going to do. It would be highly uncomfortable if Amber were to accidentally shift, not that she would. Amber has had near perfect control since she practiced. Amber grumbled as the girl finally decided on which way to walk. Amber nearly had whiplash as she was pulled to the side. Gah, not healthy not healthy. Amber lied her head on the girl's shoulder, it really wasn't that bumpy.
"Well Cat, I wonder how stupid I look right now. I'm glad I helped you out though. As much as I don't like cats." The girl stopped with that, possibly figuring she was just looking more stupid. Amber certainly didn't think so. At least she was saved, and even if she wasn't a normal cat, the girl was getting out of her way to try and find her a home. Amber blinked, that wouldn't happen. She was a very long way from home. Amber had actually taken a bus over in the early morning, it would be at least a 10 minute drive though, let alone a walk.
She was clueless on what to do. Amber made a quick list of little pros and cons and what to do's and what not to do's. If Amber let the girl let on with this... behavior, Amber might possibly go home with her or the girl would let her back down. It didn't seem so likely, but it was a chance. The bad news though would be if Amber shifted, then what? She couldn't share her secret with a regular human unless that human was a shifter. Could she be a shifter? From the way she acted it didn't seem like it so far. She made a mental note to watch out for anything. Well then, let this be her first test. "I don't think you look stupid, and I'm glad you helped me out too." Would she respond? Connect the dots? Maybe. Maybe not.

Tameri heard the cat's mews but they did not register as complaints. There was no one around and now it became apparent that she just might have to leave the cat and hopes it finds its way home. Tameri bit her lip. There really wasn’t much she could do, could she? The black-haired woman sighed. So much for being a good Samaritan. She saved the cat from the tree and now she has to let it go where it could possibly get run over by a car. Tameri frowned. Okay she was being overly analytical. The cat would be fine. She made a mental note to ask her mother whether her family had a history for OCD.
The cat’s mews continued and Tameri liked how it sounded as though it was speaking to her. Wow, this was one vocal feline. Now, stopping on the sidewalk Tameri held out the cat in front of her, supporting it just beneath its kitty armpits. She looked around hesitantly before peering into the cat’s eyes. ”Okay, you. I’m not sure what to do here.” Oddly enough, she didn’t feel too ridiculous talking to this cat right now. She didn’t feel like her sanity was questionable either, but others might think so. ”I could take you to the humane society or something, but you probably wouldn’t like that.” Tameri made a face as if she were in deep thought. ”If I wasn’t a shapeshifter I’d probably have no problem leaving you here. Is that what a regular human would do?” Tameri glanced around again. Hah! She was delivering a monologue to a cat!
”Okay, sorry buddy. I think that’s what I’m going to have to do.” Tameri gently lowered the cat down with finality. ”Try not to get run over.” Tameri mumbled, and began to walk.

The young lady sighed at Amber's comments. Right, she couldn't understand, oh well. Amber tilted her head at the girl as she thought. Was she thinking the same as her? What to do what to do. It was an annoying question. So many options, how could one so easily chose? These two seemed very indecisive at the moment. The girl halted in the middle of the sidewalk and held Amber in front of her. Amber vocalized her protests, don't people realize how hurtful that is? Her arms were practically scrunched up against her head, ouch.
"I could take you to the humane society of something, but you probably wouldn't like that." The girl made a face as Amber lowly growled. No, she better not take me there! Amber already had enough of them. She didn't plan on getting another scar. "If I wasn't a shape shifter I'd probably have no problem leaving you here. Is that what a regular human would do? The girl looked around, supposedly so no one heard her. Amber's ears perked, she was a shape shifter? Well gosh, that made things so much easier.
”Okay, sorry buddy. I think that’s what I’m going to have to do.” The woman kneeled down and set Amber on the ground. She picked up her paws a few times, making the soreness leave her shoulders. It would hurt for a few more minutes, but it was okay, the feline wouldn't be limping. "Try not to get run over." The girl murmured to Amber before getting up and walking away. Amber trailed after her, hoping she would notice her. If they were both shifters, there wouldn't be a problem yes?
Amber was curious as to what kind of shifter she was. A cat shifter? No, didn't the young woman say she didn't like cats? A dog then? Amber wasn't sure about that, she had met dog shifters. Shifters weren't as... animalistic around other "prey" animals. Trinell was a wolf and she didn't feel the need to chew her to bits... Amber inwardly chuckled at the thought. So then what kind was she...? Would it be wrong for Amber to try and get her to shift? Amber mewed to get her attention, all the while chanting 'shiftshiftshiftshiftshiftshift.'
