“Boys are supposed to be bigger, aren’t they?” She stuck her tongue back out at him in response, scrunching her face playfully. She was a bit out of character around Tenma, the feeling was unusual. Normally she was fairly passive, but here she was playing a go-getter. Misha watched him swim underwater, waiting for him to resurface.
Half laughing, slightly nervous, Misha let Tenma scoop her up without much fuss. She put one hand on his shoulder to steady herself.
"I don't go to school. It stinks. I'm Seventeen.”
It was true, school did stink, but Misha could never picture herself not going. She wondered when he had stopped going to school, or if he had ever really gone, but she held the question, it had enough potential to be a tender subject, and there wasn’t much need in asking, especially if it aroused tension.
“School does stink. And I’m sixteen.” Once her feet were firmly placed in the shallow water she took a loose stance, her bright blue t-shirt clinging to her body. She looked down at herself momentarily. The black outline of her bathing suit was visible beneath the shirt, though it wasn’t too noticeable.
"It’s getting dark. What're we gonna do now, Misha?"
He met her eyes, her lower lip pulled into a thoughtful expression. “Hmmmm.” She tapped a finger on her chin, attempting to brainstorm. “What do you usually do? Besides chase dogs on the beach and go swimming?” She teased him. She herself didn’t really do much passed this time. Normally, after a quick dip by herself, she probably would have just found her way home.

“What do you usually do? Besides chase dogs on the beach and go swimming?”
"Sleep. Or eat. Or report stuff for Rohjyx. Or do jobs for Rohjyx. Stuff like that. I usually don't even 'chase dogs' or swim, usually my day consists of ; Food, Rohjyx, Rohjyx, Mission, Rohjyx, Food, Sleep." Tenma said that almost instantly, as the question was all to known by him. He was getting a bit restless though, to tell the truth. He didn't know it himself, but having the same routine daily was beginning to make him want to cut it loose and start a new one.
"But I don't wanna do that today. I dunno why, I just don't..." Tenma said, looking uncertainly at his feet. Would Rohjyx be mad at him for not coming home that night? Was that bar even suitable to call a 'home'? Rohjyx had always told him not to call him his master, though by all legal rights he owned him. So, what was the law to Tenma? He'd never obeyed it before, so he didn't know.
Mmm.... Misha, you should take me somewhere. Doesn't matter where; I'll go anywhere. Take me home and tell your parents you gotta new dog, I don't mind. I just.. don't wanna go back to that place right now." Tenma said, looking at Misha seriously. There was a glint of begging in his eyes; a plea that she'd take him somewhere. But he'd never voice it; never beg. Tenma had never been one to beg for anything in his life.

"Sleep. Or eat. Or report stuff for Rohjyx. Or do jobs for Rohjyx. Stuff like that. I usually don't even 'chase dogs' or swim, usually my day consists of ; Food, Rohjyx, Rohjyx, Mission, Rohjyx, Food, Sleep."
Misha’s eyebrows met. “Rohjyx?” Her words were more like an echo, than a question. She knew who he was, and she also knew that he would be bad news. The leader of the Assassins wasn’t someone that Misha wanted to get caught up with. Almost subconsciously Misha shrunk back, taking on a more reserved persona. The restlessness that Tenma spoke with made her feel slightly more uneasy.
"But I don't wanna do that today. I dunno why, I just don't..." Misha watched him as he spoke. Maybe all Tenma wanted was for someone to listen to him.
”Mmm.... Misha, you should take me somewhere. Doesn't matter where; I'll go anywhere. Take me home and tell your parents you gotta new dog, I don't mind. I just.. don't wanna go back to that place right now." She felt a plea of pity in her chest, as he looked at her. He was like a puppy, looking for a home.
Without fully considering it, Misha’s shoulders slunk and she spoke calmly, giving in with no real effort. “Okay. My grandparents won’t make too much of a fuss. You can stay for at least a couple of days, if you want... Just don’t pee on the carpet, or anything.” She would let him stay there for at least a couple of nights, and if he didn't prove a nuisance she could decide to welcome him longer. Welcoming a stranger into her home was a difficult enough thing to do.
“This way,” Misha stepped forward, nodding with her head. She grabbed the apple her had brought with her, rubbing it on the belly of her blue t-shirt, wiping the sand off. She paused for a second, before biting into the crispy red skin. "You're close to Rohjyx?"

“Okay. My grandparents won’t make too much of a fuss. You can stay for at least a couple of days, if you want... Just don’t pee on the carpet, or anything.”
"Pee on the carpet? Why would I do that? I'm perfectly house trained." He said pridefully, really only trying to lighten the tension. That had to be funny, right? Usually wouldn't be something someone would boast about, but Tenma was a weird guy. Now maybe if he decided to be human all around he wouldn't need such silly things to talk about, but otherwise, it was a good way to lighten the situation.
“This way,”
"Hmm? Okay." Tenma walked beside her, not really sure where exactly they were going. His hands were in his pockets, but he was still dripping wet. He didn't really mind that though, since he'd have been wet as a dog anyway, there was no point in complaining. He sorta liked the water, anyway. Sorta kinda maybe a lot.
"You're close to Rohjyx?"
She took a bite of the apple, and Tenma briefly watched her, then looked ahead. "Are you close with your cat, your dog? It's pretty much the same thing. We're not close, since he doesn't have friends. He's always got everybody locked out. Like there's this wall around him you cant go under, climb over, or go through, ya know? He's pretty weird. I guess we are closer than just normal members of the gang, but that's probably because I'm a 'good boy' and listen better than the others do. Because I'm a dog." Tenma explained, not really sure how to word it. In his dog mind he understood it perfectly, but as a human it was different principles, different terms for things. Being a shifter was pretty troubling for him sometimes.
He felt that the silence that drifted between them was a bit.. unnerving, so he broke it.
"So you live with your Grandparents? I mean- What're they like? Are they really old? Cause I need to know if I need to be one of those perfectly well trained for old people dogs or whatever, I don't wanna hurt your family or cause trouble." Tenma said, worried he'd hurt one of the grandparents, since he was a pretty big, fairly strong dog. He would make sure to be extra careful with them, a perfect pooch. Ever the nice doggy. Oh god, he'd live the life of a pet for a few days. He'd never experienced that. It made him feel a new emotion, worry. Anticipation, worry, anxiety. All emotions he'd never felt before, but was feeling now.
What was making him feel like this? He'd never felt it before, and he'd met hundreds, thousands of people before. Done billions of different things. Was it because of Misha? Could that one, tiny girl be causing him to feel so many different emotions? Nah, not possible... Right?

As Tenma spoke Misha found herself feeling sad. She clenched her dry clothes and sneakers in one hand, the other gripping the half eaten apple. Wanting to say something to him about the unfairness of that relationship, she found herself unable to even open her mouth. Instead she kept their pace forward, frowning. It was no way to live, being treated like a lowly animal. Even for a shifter. “I happen to love my cat.” Her words were determined, and somewhat hostile, trying to shake his broken theory. She didn't hold onto the hostile tone, quickly reverting back to her placid self. They continued in silence a little ways.
"So you live with your Grandparents? I mean- What're they like? Are they really old? Cause I need to know if I need to be one of those perfectly well trained for old people dogs or whatever, I don't wanna hurt your family or cause trouble.”
Misha felt a bit awkward speaking of her home situation. She hadn’t been living with her grandparents very long, and was still uncomfortable living without her mother. It was a tender subject to dance around, but Misha didn’t want to make Tenma feel unwelcomed.
“They’re friendly enough. They aren’t that old, though they’re both retired. You’ll do great. Don’t worry.” Misha smiled at Tenma, still feeling a hint of melancholy. “Anyway, the house is big enough, there’re plenty of places for you to hide if it comes down to that.”
It was getting dark fast now, and it was growing colder. They'd be at her house soon enough, though. “You’re a guest in the house, not a pet. You’re a human being.” Misha hesitated, realising that as she spoke she could be unwinding the delicate relationship that Tenma held with Rohyjx. The delicate master/pet relationship. She found herself frustrated with Rohjyx, having even never met him. As much as Misha was a passive person, she was bothered by Rohjyx’s relationship with Tenma. It sounded like what he mostly did was take advantage of him.
“The dog guise is just a cover, because Grandpa definitely wouldn’t let a boy stay in the house.” Misha grinned at Tenma. In truth she wanted him to stay around. She was feeling the happiest she had in a long time. There was something about Tenma that she found deeply soothing, wanting nothing more than to just lean on him.

“I happen to love my cat.”
"Haha, that so? Lucky cat, huh?" Tenma chuckled, not realizing what he said was pretty awkward. He never had been one to realize situations like that easily, always the naive one about human subjects. The would change eventually, but his sheltered life with Rohjyx sure would slow the process down.
“They’re friendly enough. They aren’t that old, though they’re both retired. You’ll do great. Don’t worry.”
"Ah, that so? Okay, I'll try not to worry. I makes things easier knowing I wouldn't knock their hips out of order by just bumping them." He chuckled again awkwardly, not really sure how to continue the conversation. Awkward. Yet another new emotion. There were a lot of those popping up around people. With dogs there was no 'awkward'. There was just simple feelings, like 'hunger', 'anger', 'happiness', 'sadness', 'thirst', and etc. Nothing like what humans experienced. Ever the 'superior' creatures, eh?
“You’re a guest in the house, not a pet. You’re a human being.”
"Hmm? Really? Wow. That's gonna be a new experience for me. A dog guest. Who's human." He laughed, then continued, "But if Misha says so then I'm guessing it's true, so I'll trust you on it." Tenma's chuckled faded, leaving his face in a content sort of smile. An expression he'd never made before then.
“The dog guise is just a cover, because Grandpa definitely wouldn’t let a boy stay in the house.”
"Huh? Wh- Oh. I wouldn't do anything weird. It's not like I'm your boyfriend or anything, so." Tenma said, not quite looking Misha in the face. He recognized the feeling of another new emotion, but this one he had no name for. He couldn't figure out what it was. It was an odd feeling in his chest. A burning feeling, sort of like jealousy, but not exactly... Ah, what was it? Something like wanting something...... Longing? Ah. Maybe it was longing. A longing for.... what?
Tenma brushed his hand through his hair, still unable to figure it out. He gave up, eventually. Just letting the feeling do what it pleased to him. Which worked out well, because the feeling sort of died down as his mind drifted.
Tenma stopped just as Misha did, looking on at the large house and yard in front of him. It was a fence in yard, he wasn't sure why. Was that the right house? Maybe they were just getting close and it was about time for Tenma to shift.
"Hey um, I'm gonna shift now. I can still understand what you say to me even as a dog, so if you talk to me I'll listen. I'll nod or shake my head or whatever if it's yes or no, okay? Then I'll tell you more when I get the chance to change back." Tenma explained, uncertainly rubbing his neck. He shifted then, and stood beside Misha, ready to go wherever she was taking him. His tail was wagging slowly, but still wagging in a friendly manner. He looked about as happy as his dog form allowed him to be, which he'd done intentionally to look less.... ferocious. Tenma'd always been feared as a dog, because of his breed. Alano Espanol, also known as the Spanish Mastiff. Fairly big dog, just over three feet at the shoulder, easily able to carry a small person or child because of his great muscle power.
Jeez, blending in as some lost dog was going to be hard, with his appearance. He could act the part though, he was good at that much, at least.

"Huh? Wh- Oh. I wouldn't do anything weird. It's not like I'm your boyfriend or anything, so."
Misha looked away, her cheeks turning pink. She hadn’t meant it in such a blunt way, but then again, Tenma was fairly blunt himself. The comment left an awkward air between them, but perhaps it was just Misha being sensitive. From the corner of her eye, Misha watched him, hoping he wouldn’t catch her glance, her cheeks still rosy.
"Hey um, I'm gonna shift now. I can still understand what you say to me even as a dog, so if you talk to me I'll listen. I'll nod or shake my head or whatever if it's yes or no, okay? Then I'll tell you more when I get the chance to change back.” Misha gave him a nod.
“It’s just around the corner. It’ll be the one on the left, with brown brick.” Misha watched him shift. Admittedly, she was jealous of him. A squirrel monkey stood out, and a dog, of even Tenma’s size, wasn’t extremely out of the ordinary. They continued down the street, coming up to the turn, the neighbourhood quieting as it became dark.
Tenma was a beautiful dog, and Misha doted for a moment, not conscious of her smile. He was large, maintaining a sort of rugged tone. Silently she mused to herself, imagining him as some sort of body guard. She liked the idea, being protected by someone like him. It was assuring.
“Um... I should speak to them first. They might not go along with it.” Misha felt a twinge of guilt. What if they didn’t want to keep him? She faltered over her thoughts. No, her grandmother loved animals. Surely it wouldn’t be a problem. At least for a couple nights. She would just give a spiel about him not having a place to stay, and that he would end up dead somewhere, either getting hit by a car or starving.
Together they came to the familiar brick house, stopping at the end of the driveway. The house looked spacious from the outside, two stories with a well kept garden. With a slow inhale she crept further up the driveway, toward the door, motioning to Tenma that he should wait on the front porch. As she opened the door and wandered in she called loudly. “I’m home!”

Tenma nodded, following her. He had a placid face, not trying to look ominous. He had tried looking like a friendly, happy, fluffy lovable dog before, but that just hadn't worked. Not to mention he felt pretty weird doing that. So instead, he just walked, looking as un-ominous as he could.
As they came to the actual house, he was surprised at just how... normal it looked. He lived in an old bar, so normal wasn't really one of those often things for him. He followed her onto the porch, then sat and waited idly while she went inside. She called out to her grandparents, and he flicked his ears toward the noise. Another sound caught his attention however, and he was drawn off the porch and around the side of the house. Where he saw a figure, dressed in black, attempting to get in the window. He failed in picking the lock, and decided to just bust open the window. When he did, Tenma sprang in. He growled and snarled ominously at the person, creeping forward.
The person looked surprised at first, then a bit terrified. He swung a bar of some sort at Tenma, which hit him in the shoulder, though he didn't utter a whine or even flinch. He was a trained fighting dog, he was told to never show weakness. Pain was one of those things he was taught never to show. He barked, and leaped forward, chasing the man. He growled while following him, until he leaped the back fence, where he slammed up against it, still barking at the intruder which had fled.
Only then did he notice the audience he had; Misha and her grandparents, and several other curious neighbors. He felt that they were going to scold him for barking or something, and so he laid down with his head between his paws and, yes, he whined. One of those "I'm sorry I didn't mean to be bad." whines and looks.
