Thao quirked an eyebrow as the delicate girl quickly moved her hands into different shapes, as though she were...Oh! She was using sign language! The male teen instantly felt bad, now burning with shame rather than embarassment. What do I say? I have no idea what she's trying to tell me... Puzzled, Thao simply murmured a sheepish reply and quickly turned off into the left hallway.
As soon as he turned, the taller teen saw that the next room brightly lit, contrasting sharply with the darkness around them. Walking further - much more cautiously than before - he realized the room was filled with...mirrors? All around him were reflections, twisted and distorted into goofy parodies of himself. He walked up to a strangely shaped mirror and laughed at the stretched out image before him. He was even skinnier than before! He turned to leave-
Wait a second. There was no exit! Looking around, it dawned on him; it wasn't a hall of mirrors, it was a mirror maze!

Thao's eyebrow raised as Taavi finished signing. A confused look filled his orbs, and then they suddenly brightened with understanding. 'Finally!' Taavi thought, rather snidely. She instantly felt bad when the boy's already pink cheeks turned a darker shade. He murmured something, what it was, Taavi had no idea. The boy then turned around and walked off into the left hallway. Taavi had no idea why, but she followed him. Honestly, she has spent the last three years totally avoiding guys, now she was following one. 'You're going soft!' She told herself fiercely. She was about to turn around and go back the way she came, when she saw what was in here.
A mirror maze!
She gave a little gasp of surprise. She'd always wanted to come to one of these. Taavi had heard it was a challenge to get through them, for everywhere you looked there were mirrors! As she walked forwards - carefully - her image reflected off of a half a dozen mirrors at once. Taavi pirouetted, looking at each image of herself carefully. There was one of her fat - she looked like one of the seven dwarves. And there was one with her tall. Another one pulled the top part of her to the left, and the bottom half to the right. Taavi laughed, the silvery sound sliding out into the open air.
Taavi walked around the mirror maze, her hands on the mirrors, her breath frosting the glass. She finally found a passageway and kept going. Looking ahead, Taavi would occasionally see the reflection of other people, but she ignored them all - until she saw Thao's reflection. Poor boy didn't seem to know how to get around in the maze. It was kinda funny how she kept bumping into him.
Swallowing her fear, Taavi walked towards the boy, only to find out it was a mirror. She turned around and saw Thao again. She carefully walked forwards, yet it was again, only a mirror. With a sign of frustration, she turned towards another image of the tall one. 'If this isn't him, I'll forget about introducing myself.' She walked forwards, her hands outreached.

From somewhere in the maze, a tinkling laugh sounded. Thao whipped around, seeing nothing but his own, confused looking reflection. Where did it come from? Thao sighed, reaching out in front of him as he walked forward. No matter what he did, he bumped into a mirror. Strange, twisted figures stood all around him, making him a little woozy. Will I ever get out here? the brown-haired teen thought, staring hopelessly at a particularly warped image. The prospects seemed dim.
Suddenly, without warning, Thao felt thin fingers brush against his back. The boy jumped and quickly turned around, slightly spooked by the unexpected contact. "Oh. Hello there!" he said, looking down at the same girl as before. We keep running into each other, he realized. "Are you lost too?" He laughed, feeling a little embarrassed about admitting his shortcomings. Still, it was good to have someone to talk to. Sort of.

Taavi's fingers stretched out, and she half expected to feel smooth, cool glass beneath them. Instead she felt rough fabric under her petite hands. She whipped them back, into 'her bubble' so to speak. She wasn't going to ask this guy to get mad at her. Although, so far, he seemed to be pretty nice. Key words - Seemed to be. Thao whirled around at her light touch, obviously startled. His eyes went back to their normal size as he exhaled.
"Hello there!" The tall one spoke, having to look down several inches to even see Taavi. She rolled her almond shaped eyes, suddenly feeling like she was a dog, or a cat perhaps. You know, just the normal family pet, the one where you said 'Hello there, Spot' whenever you saw them, 'Yep,' Taavi thought drily. 'That's me, ol' trusty Fido.' Taavi arched one eyebrow as Thao spoke again, this time, she felt more like an equal, and less then a pet. "Are you lost too?" Taavi's lips turned up into a slightly smug, half smile. She shook her head, her long black tresses whipping back and forth.
Thao laughed nervously, and Taavi could see a bit of blush back in his cheeks. Still, he seemed to be happy to see her. Taavi was going to do her best to get to know Thao, he seemed to be a nice sort of guy. It was going to be hard, considering the communication barrier, but hopefully, it'd be worth it in the end. So far, the tall one didn't seem anything like Taavi's dad. The tiny girl pointed to herself and slowly finger spelled her name. She pointed to Thao and shrugged. Hopefully he'd get it that she was asking for his name. Unless he knew the sign language alphabet, Taavi doubt he'd caught her own name.

As Thao spoke, the small girl in front of him went through a wide range of expressions. She went from rolling her eyes to looking skeptical, and even put on a sort of all-knowing smirk. The tall boy couldn't quite figure out what she wanted to say, but at least he sort of knew what she was feeling. At least I know she's not lost, Thao thought, smiling a bit at his own predicament.
When she began moving her hands once more, Thao's semi-embarrassed smile faded. "I never took sign language," he muttered sadly, shifting awkwardly. For some reason, he suddenly felt like he was something of a failure.
Suddenly possessed by an urge to avoid the fragile girl's eyes, Thao looked across from them, promptly smiling at what he saw. The mirror reversed the pair; now, Thao was miniaturized, and the girl was stretched out far above him. The funny image cheered him up a little, putting a small smile back on his face.

Taavi noted Thao seemed to find her wide range of emotions amusing. 'If only he knew the thoughts that went on behind them.' Taavi thought, amused. She noticed, that as her hands moved, he lost his smile. He mumbled something about never taking sign language, and Taavi rolled her eyes in frustration. 'I don't expect you to know sign language, you dimwit! Ugh!' She started to sign again, but realized she'd lost his attention.
He was gazing sideways, towards one of the mirrors. The sad look in his eyes vanished and a smile replaced the sad frown on his lips. Curiously, Taavi glanced over. The fingerprint covered mirrors were distorting their figures, making Taavi taller, and Thao shorter. The irony of it all struck Taavi, and she allowed one of her rare smiles to come about. Taavi has an extraordinary imagination, and she could simply imagine herself as the mother of some boy, shaking her finger at her naughty son. As she glanced back at Thao, she realized that was impossible...There were some 8-year-olds taller then her!
Turning back to the mirror, she suddenly had an idea. 'Of course!' Such a simple thing to do to solve the communication problem. Taavi grabbed Thao's hand, and strode purposely over to the mirror. Leaning close, Taavi lightly breathed on the mirror, causing the surface to fog. Lifting a finger, she quickly and deftly traced the following letters: 'Taavi'. She was about to turn to him, but figured she'd better add in the words: 'My name is' about it, just in case Mr. Einstein didn't get it the first time. 'I suppose I don't really blame him. After all, Taavi is an unusual name.' she mused to herself. She glanced up at him. If he didn't get it now, he needed to go back to second grade.

Looking at the smaller girl's reflection, Thao noticed that she turned to see what he was looking at. Even through the smearing of hand prints that covered the glass, the boy could see a delicate smile light up on his companion's face. Thao couldn't help but laugh a little at the sheer ridiculousness of their mirror counterparts. His feelings of embarrassment were soon replaced by a content happiness as he smiled back at the fragile looking girl.
Thin fingers circled Thao's wrist, and he felt an unexpected tug as the small Asian girl walked forward towards the odd mirror across from them. Quickly frosting over the mirror with her breath, she used her other hand to quickly write something out. In slightly loopy handwriting, "Taavi" was written on the glass. Taavi...? Thao thought, looking down at her with a confused expression. He suddenly understood, however, when she wrote "My name is" above it. Looking back up at the mirror, his expression was replaced with a happy smile. "Oh! Your name is Taavi!" Thao said brightly, unaware that he was stating the obvious.

Taavi was right. Dr. Einstein hadn't gotten it. His confused face said it all for Taavi. Yet as she traced out the "My name is" his confusion cleared, and an exuberant smile was in place. Taavi suppressed a chuckle. Thao was almost like a kid, finding new stuff totally awesome. "Oh! Your name is Taavi!" Taavi's eyelids dropped, giving her this 'are you kidding me' look. 'Bright boy, isn't he?' Taavi thought rather sarcastically.
Taavi nodded her head in reply to Thao, pointed to his chest, and then shrugged. Would he get that she was asking for his name this time?
Taavi was a bit frustrated that she couldn't express herself more fully. If she was being totally honest, she'd admit that it wasn't Thao's intelligence that was the problem here. It was Taavi's own inability to communicate fully. Sure, Thao didn't understand sign language, or even the simplified version Taavi usually used, but hey, he'd probably had never really talked to someone who couldn't speak. 'I suppose I really should be nicer to him.' Taavi thought, kind of ignoring the fact that Thao didn't exactly know she had been being mean in the first place. One of the nice things about being mute - She said a lot less to embarrass herself! Now Taavi entertained herself by thinking snide, and often just plain mean thoughts.
Hey. It was better then going insane from boredom.
Taavi snapped her attention back on Thao, if he was going to understand her, she had to focus on getting her message across. She lifted her hands and in a fluid motion, signed "What's your name?" The first time she did the motions, she signaled 'name' by tapping her index finger, and middle finger of her left hand against the index finger, and middle finger of her right hand. She signed, "What's your name?" again, this time finger spelling name. Hopefully, Thao understood what she meant.
If she kept in contact with him, Taavi would have to teach him how to finger spell - at least!
OhOhSea://
rofl xD I'm really starting to love Thao!!
lol, and even though Taavi thinks rather meanly, she really doesn't mean anything by it...It's just kinda her personality. She has that dry, sarcastic sense of humor ^^ And sometimes corny =P

Thao noticed that as he smiled at Taavi, she started giving him a look of annoyed disbelief. It was as though she thought he had just done something incredibly dumb. But what did I do? the boy thought questioningly...until realization suddenly dawned on him. ...oh. I sounded like an idiot. That's what. He smiled sheepishly, a faint tinge of a blush gradually appearing. "I guess that was sort of stupid," he laughed. "Sorry."
Taavi didn't seem to mind so much, because seconds later she pointed at him and shrugged. Thao could only guess that something about him was confusing her. He stared dumbly at her as she tapped her fingers together, then began forming a - wait a second, those were letters of the sign language alphabet! Thao then vaguely remembered seeing a chart of them in his old school's textbook. I think that was an "a" just now...the squirrel shifter deduced, with some difficulty. What's a four letter word with "a" as the second letter? He thought about it, and realized that she had pointed at him before...
...Name?
"Are you asking about my name?" guessed Thao. It sounded lame to him, but it was the most logical thing he could come up with.
((OOC: The only three letters I know spell "USA". |D Thank you, cruddy song I learned in third grade.))

Taavi eyed the slight blush that spread over his cheeks again. 'My, this boy does embarrass easily.' she thought, a bit surprised. As Thao spoke, she felt like slapping herself. She really had to pay more attentions to her surroundings, and thus, the Tall One. "I guess that was sort of stupid," Thao laughed, but then easily said, "Sorry." At this Taavi smiled her strange little half smile, and nodded once. Hopefully he'd get that she held no ill will.
Thao's confused face was starting to become very familiar to Taavi. She bit her lip, wondering if she should write the question in the glass, when Thao's eyes lit up. "Are you asking about my name?" At this Taavi's tinkling laugh floated out. He got it! She smiled and nodded, her eyes sparkling. 'After all, my mommy would be furious if I kept talked to a stranger.' she thought, sarcastically. Taavi suddenly paused, thinking. Could it technically be called talking if they weren't actually talking? I mean, sure, he was talking to her, but she wasn't exactly talking back. Taavi closed her eyes to reorganize her thoughts. "M'kay Taav. Let's not lose it here and think about totally irrelevant junk.' Almond shaped eyes flickered back open, and gazed up at Thao, waiting for his answer.
