how she chuckled, smiled, and seemed entirely at ease made chex marvel. how could anyone be so lax and carefree in the world? it was almost like a 'philosophy' that he had never dared to approach. but how comfortable she was in her skin, in this world, the more cereal settled down. smiling back at her warming giggles and grins. 'It's okay. I just hope you enjoy yourself.' nodding, locked eyes with her and attempted to show his genuine gratitude. to know that she wasn't doing this out of pity, that she wasn't just sticking her neck out for some kid on the street. but that she actually wanted to be friends, with a fellow shifter. cat snake and mouse.
"Are people always this nice? Or is it only because i'm here with you?" 'Well unless they're in a mood, people aren't normally nasty.' oh how chex wanted that to be true. but as some type of epiphany, realization, discovery hit chex thought if it really was his his outlook on the world. if this earth wasn't as crime-filled and sinful as he perceived it to be. looking at how his ice cubes floated in his water, smiled. back to the little things in life; but the sun was starting to shine his way and the grass was getting greener. now was the time to act greedy, before it all went downhill again. because chex what that negative, and realistic so that the unexpected was always expected.
eyes on the ice, a smile almost shy grin upon jaw, felt like a child as his red eyes moved from the ice to the hot plate set in front of him. mouth salivating, looked over at airy to see what she had gotten and to make sure there was nothing malicious about how she sat, looked, and grinned. but everything was genuine, everything. eying his own platter. a grease covered cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and onion. not sure where to start, but knowing that he wanted to inhale it, chex picked up the sandwich and took the biggest bite he could muster. the juices of the meat ran over his tongue and gave him a wonderful sensation. it was almost angelic compared to the rice, bread, and beans he had in his regular diet.
swallow his mouthful prematurely, took another hasty bite, and prematurely swallowed that wallop of meat. couching a little bit, drank some water before grinning with glossy eyes. before taking another bite of burger, tried to be polite and asked, "so how is your meal? it looks very..." musing around to find a word came to the conclusion, "... leafy." as he stared at her, and she stared at him, chex found the adjective unexplainably funny. laughing, grinned toothily, and as his laugh grew it turned into silent laughter as his abs ached. taking another, smaller, bite of burger couldn't help but feel this was too good, too nonchalant to be true. swigging his alcohol, listened to her next comment.
'I think you've been around those Assassins too much. You need to come out with me more often, even if it's just for a small meal or something. What do you think?' looking up from his meal, a couple crumbs on his cheek looked astonished. "hanging around assassins?" chuckling, realized how illinformed she really was. "nah. they're not the problem. it's the rest of the world." it was a strange way of thinking, but chex felt at home next to an assassin, and completely vulnerable not. after another bite was bitten, chewed, and maturely swallowed, chex decided to divulge some of airyll's information. "So what about you? friends? family?"

jaw parting once more, felt the juicy grease filled meat over his tongue making him salivate even more. chewing, his cheeks occasionally puffed out from such obnoxiously large bites couldn't remember the last time his stomach was so full. sipping at his water until it emptied, was surprised when someone came over and offered him a refill on water. looking at airyll almost as if asking for he didn't know water refills were free. but before he could recieve a response, or give one, had a nice cool glass of water in front of him again. shadowing a smile, nibbled on the last mouthful of burger he had wanting to make it last.
'Not here in Shelpey... ...fun to be around.' looking intently at her knee, pended whether to speak but deciding that if they were going to be friends he might as well be open. "so... we are friends? nothing malicious about it just... friends?" this thought cheered him up. sure assassins gave him safety and security and they were almost like a lion pride with a hierarchy. but there wasn't the overwhelming rush of affection that they had for one another. everyone was interdependent, some more than others, some less. 'But it doesn't really bother... ...All part of life, really.' oh yes chex could relate to that one. life was such a maze, even worse than the back streets and alleys of the city.
"enemies? you actually plan on making them?" little cereal box was astonished. why the hell would you make enemies? but then again, mister chex was one to flee and run away without any hesitance what so ever. would it be to his benefit or fault to stick around with airyll? she seemed tough, able to take care of herself, street smart. but he was such a coward, such a wimp... such a... such a... such a mouse. "i could never do that, but somehow i'm able to do it unintentionally. um... this is kinda personal but... do you have a boyfriend?"
WHOA WHOA WHOA?!?!?!? isn't small chex gay? wouldn't this raise suspicions of a potentially compulsive liar? "because... i don't want to get in a row... since we're friends and will be hanging out." looking up at her with almost worry in his eyes, being deserted so many times before learned not to expect to much from people, but hoped that she would be different. "we will be hanging out... won't we?"

goodness, chex had made a friend? that was an achievement by itself. maybe it was because he kept to himself, living in constant fear of the world. or maybe it was because he never had an explicit desire to make a friend. perfectly content keeping to himself, living small and dreaming big and and enjoying the little things in life. it was certainly a different life style, one that not everyone participated in; but cereal enjoyed it despite the cons. there were so many cons it seemed to drown out the pros, being vulnerable, innocent, and appealing. though the last one seemed to be almost mystic to him, appealing... him? surely it must just be a perverted taste. surely. surely.
swallowing the last of his burger, finished the alcohol and sipped daintily at the water. it was the first time he wasn't inhaling his food and drink. stomach a nice full lump underneath his skinny ribs, patted it happily stifling a burp. "excuse me." stretching, took an index finger and ran it along the plate making sure that any faint crumbs were swept up and eaten. smacking his lips, took the napkin and wiped greasy fingers and patted his mouth. very content, full to bloating, grinned at airyll. "thank you very much, this is the nicest thing anyone's done for me."
as miss fairy went on to talk about her enemies, chex nodded and listened without interruption. astonished with himself at how much he had opened up. normally his guard was always on edge, senses on constant swivel for the nearest exit if a quick escape was needed, profiling everyone visually to avoid trouble. but here, with this woman that he had barely known for a few hours, he was divulging his lifestyle, weaknesses, fears, and anything else that could be used against him. funny thing was, he didn't seem to care. swiveling in his chair like a young child, added to the conversation. "in all honesty that's awfully brave of you. but then again, you would pack quite a punch... or bite... if you needed to."
lips leaving the cool icy glass, didn't think he could of eaten any more even if he wanted too. looking at airyll's plate noticed her abandon piece of lettuce. suddenly concerned, thought maybe miss fairy was ill for not finishing her meal, or maybe it was revolting to the point of in-edibleness, or maybe.... mind reeling with possibilities, decided that it was none of his concern, so why worry? if miss airy was ill, he would of sensed it by now and she would of shown some type of physical symptom. perhaps having a regular diet and knowing when your next meal was caused you to have a constantly full stomach, and that's why she hadn't finished.
though for a certain period of time, he had leeched off of a man who had taken care of him in return for services. chex could of found that treatment anywhere, but these services weren't always sexual. they included cleaning, cooking, and similar tasks which was why he stuck around so long being the parasite that he was. but when things turned ugly, he morphed and never looked back. he missed the constantly full belly, but there was no point in wishing on the past, or else he'd end up in a tight corner and a bad situation.
"no boyfriend? gash, i would of thought you'd be a prime bachelorette." hoping to make her smile at the comment, went on. "i have a boyfriend... well i'm testing him out really. saved me from some thugs. i would of shifted and fled but they had me by the throat. can't shift when you can't breathe. anywho, things seem to be working out well, he's tall, broad, and strong but a real teddy bear. liger shift. i'm fond of him." smiling to himself, ended up staring at the folded hands in his lap. it was cute, smiling when thinking about his lover. chex hoped it worked out because he met kyrian not because of some dance at a bar but because ky had gone out of his way to help a poor helpless boy.
"yeah... so... so where do you live? i mean... errr..." not wanting to come off wrong, or sound malicious, "can't let a lady walk home by herself, be rude of me especially after that same miss airyll treated me to dinner."

what more could he do? he thanked her profusely, offered to walk her home, maybe plan their next time out. but his conscience was still heavy with guilt, and nothing would change that. it was one of the negatives of being a cereal box. leeching off of someone sincerely nice for his gain, even though they were friends. it almost brought the mouse to tears being the sensitive soul that he is.. but hiding his tugging conscience, knowing that he could only say thank you so many times before it became annoying. how could he ease this emotional pain? well... there was always planning their next time out, on him. but he had no money, any that he had was spent towards food or housing.
this little thinking episode caused him to think of activities that would be free, but nice all the same. they could go to the beach. 'no... no... it's getting chilly. that and i can't swim... and i'm self conscious. the duo could go window shopping, 'no... i'd feel terrible at not being able to gift her any.' they could go to the fairgrounds, 'once again... no money for games or rides.' but naming and then crossing off more areas that cost money, such as the coffee shop, came to rest on the park. 'yes... it's free, it's peaceful, it's a bit of a walk but it's beautiful especially with all of the leaves changing due to the fall season. YES! the park.'
as airy gave her two-cents about his relationship, gave a sheepish grin. with his luck everything would fall down the toilet now that he told someone. but mister negative weaved off the subject after a very certain proclamation that miss airyll was not 'mental' in any way shape or form. "any bloke must be in a right state not to fancy you!" nodding with her certainty, let his eyes shine with happiness. how normal their conversations were, now that he was opening up, was next to astonishing. who knew that having a social life could be this much fun.
"whoa... you have a legit apartment? good on you. i couldn't stand not being on ground-level though. very down to earth, sometimes in the earth, i am. but it must be very nice." as she waved away his offer, seemed to almost cheekily say 'unless you want to.' nodding firmly said "it's the very LEAST i can do for a lady such as yourself." standing up, walked beside airyll to the door, following her out of it, continued to escort follow her. confidence abnormally high as he walked next not behind, not infront, but actually next to miss airyll.
AND SO THEY WALKED!!! down the cold streets...
AND SO THEY ARRIVED!!! ...at her apartment complex.
swinging a corner, arrived at the front of her entrance. staring up at the tall building, couldn't help but find it almost intimidating. she lived here? well it must be a whole lot more cheery in the sunshine, because in the dark it was just downright scary with it's height and the prospect that people actually lived at the top. but as red eyes fell back, smiled at airyll. "this is where i leave you for the night." his sheepish little smile had returned, head low, white hair falling over his face. "you're probably sick of hearing this... but thanks again."
expecting her to open the door and go up to her room, suddenly was seized by a grasp of his earlier thoughts. "oh... oh... WAIT! um... would you.. if you have the time... and if you WANT to... maybe come to the park with me some day this week. BUT if this week isn't good... maybe... another time in er... general?" wasn't that just smooth, but all the same he had asked HER instead of HER asking him. awaiting his answer, shifted his weight from side to side which was normally a very feminine thing hoping she wouldn't object.

eyes upon the second floor, stared at the building with something like amazement. it must be cozy inside, equip with a heater, some comfy couch, maybe a tv and a mattress. or at least that was chex's mental image of a regular home, with a refrigerator packed full of all sort of goodies. airyll was surprising normal now that chex got round to thinking about it. if it weren't for her snake-shifting ability she'd fit just right and cozy in the real world. just a regular girl, in a not-so-regular world, a nice home, a prosperous job, and then maybe a love life. 'must be nice.' eyes falling down, gave a small smile just to himself. it was nice to be reminded that beneath the rich and famous, yet above the ghetto and slum, there was a peaceful 'in between' that could qualify as normal.
as she continued about the second floor of the prison, chex realized that he had been up high. but it was all so cold, damp, dark, and dirty that it didn't really make a difference. he was more after the scraps of bread at the top than anything. plus as a mouse it was easy to scurry up and down poles. but to be in an small(er than the prison) room with a window where you could see straight down, it was just different. 'you're welcome to stay the night if you don't have anywhere comfier. Or anywhere you need to be.'
"hmm?"
[/color] looking at her, took in the offer. the offer to stay on something cozier than just a couple of blankets on top of a hard and lumpy mattress on the ground. it was certainly inviting, chex knew that she did it out of friendliness to open her world to him. but at the same time, he didn't want to be pitied, and it was just a little strange to spend the night after only knowing them for a few hours. smiling at her, not wanting to make her feel bad or awkward or anything like that. "no thanks, i don't have anywhere to be, and the offer is quite nice, but i think i'll just go back to my place for the night. it's no problem at all."taking a step back as if saying that there was no persuading him out of it. their conversation was driven by his stuttered offer to go out to the park. chex still marveled at the fact that he had collected himself together enough to string stuttered words into a sentence and let alone as someone else to do something. she explained how they should probable set a time and a definate place seeing as she didn't know where he lifed. giving an embarassed smile, blushed and kinda chuckled. "yeah... that's kinda important. how about... um... tuesday at... um... what time do you wake up? because dawn is actually quite beautiful if you're awake to see it. if not we could go around noon if that doesn't collide with your schedule. meeting at... um... you know that pathway that leads from the street to the lake? yeah.... well... wanna meet there and... yeah. maybe."{526 Words} {chex in human form} {so unproductive >P}[/blockquote][/blockquote]
