A thin boy raced down the street, shoving past the other people that blocked his way and hindered his progress. Behind the skinny boy, Brian, three buff boys jogged. They were obviously not worried about their prey escaping and showed it through their relaxed jog. And even if the prey did escape, he'd be back the next day and the day after that and the day after that. Brian gasped for air, and stumbled. Catching his balance, he continued to run, casting frightened glances over his shoulder. Brian ran, legs and arms pumping, mind repeating one word over and over again.
'Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe.'
This scene was actually quite common to Brian. He was constantly attacked, both physically, emotionally, and verbally by the other kids at his school. Granted, a few of them would stand up for him but they were few and far in between. Most of the time, he had to fend for himself, and one scrawny boy couldn't do much against one buff football player - much less three. 'Don't look back.' Brian thought. He bit his lip, trying to get his legs and arms to move faster. Fear and adrenaline coursed through his body, causing his senses to become hyperaware. Being overly sensitive to his surroundings, Brian felt as though he could feel the hot breath of his pursuers on his neck. His head twitched, and he risked a glance over his shoulder. At that exact moment, the toe of his sneaker connected with the curb. Flailing his arms wildly, Brian went down hard, smacking various body parts against the cement violently. Not having time to assess the damage, Brian perceived his attackers drawing near. Glancing around rather frantically, he realized he was in the town square. Clutching his wrist, which was stabbing shoots of pain up his arm, he desperately searched for a place to hide away from the bullies. Seeing an alley, he scrambled to his feet and limped in the general direction. Once out of sight, he immediately shifted. The normally uncomfortable sensation of bones realigning was made more painful due to his wrist. The bird hobbled into a cardboard box that was lying on it's side - just in time as well. The three bullies came to the entrance of the alley.
"I think he went in here!" "Where man? I don't see him." "I dunno. Maybe he made it to the other end already?" "Hell man, I can't believe you lost that nerd!"
The three boys started down the alley, kicking boxes out of their way. Soon all Brian could hear was his pounding heart and labored breathing. He carefully peered out of his box, checking to make sure the boys were truly gone. Brian shook his body, settling his somewhat ruffled feathers to their normal state. He winced as a sharp pain laced up his right wing. 'Okay. Time to see what's broke.' Brian flexed each of his body parts, trying to figure out what exactly he had done to himself. After a couple of seconds, he surmised that he had scraped both of his knees, twisted his right ankle, skinned the skin underneath his feathers, and possibly broken his right wrist - wing. "Who breaks a wrist when they fall?" Brian squawked dejectedly to himself.

Ava had just gotten out of work, planning on walking home since the town wasn't that big and she did need to save on gas. Any little bit count, really. Especially since she had to pay back her college loans. But walking also helped her burn some energy, and she really had quite a lot of energy. Perhaps a bit too much, as the doctors said, she had ADD after all. But that never hindered her activities, it just made it possible for other people to stand her longer.
So she was walking down the pretty crowded streets and decided maybe it would be best to take the alleys home. Since it would be faster and she wouldn't have to worry about getting like compressed by super lots of bodies and therefore get all smelly and gross. Not that she was particularly against people, she just would like to get home to feed and let out her animals. So she slipped down one of the alleyways and saw something move. She slowed and looked down in the direction of the thing, only to find an owl.
"Hey there lil' guy," she said softly bending down a bit aways from the owl as to not scare it so much. It was probably already freaked out as it was, and it looked to be in not so good condition. If she could catch him, she'd just take him home and fix him up, with hopefully not delivering to much psychological damage to the bird.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i43.tinypic.com/nz3a8m.jpg] Brian jumped as a voice spoke. "Hey there lil' guy," Brian jumped and scrambled away as fast as his swollen ankle would let him. His wings fluttered frantically as he scurried away. Not hearing a pursuit, he turned to face her, puffed up his feathers and raised his wings, attempting to appear scarier. Why hadn't he heard her approaching? 'Weren't animals supposed to be hyper aware to their surroundings?' Brian wondered, still staring at Ava with his huge owl eyes. 'Although, perhaps since I'm really human inside, I do not use my animal abilities the the extent I can. Something to work on, I suppose.' He relaxed slightly as he realized she wasn't one of the bullies come back to eat him alive. He relaxed even more when he realized the woman wasn't coming after him. His feathers slowly settled back into place, and he tucked his uninjured wing away. His broken wing he allowed to drag on the ground slightly - it was too painful to try and tuck it away. He cocked his head to the side, wide, golden eyes staring at Ava without blinking.
What did she want with him? Sure, he was pretty darn impressive as a barn owl - with his pure white feathers that covered his face, chest and the underside of his wings, and the pretty tan coloration that covered his back and topside of his wings. Regardless of this, what did she want with him?

Okaayyy...If Ava tells Brian something like "I'm not going to hurt you, I've vet" or something like that, then he'll allow her to pick him up.
So IF she says something like that, then I give you permission to powerplay picking Brian up x3
Sorry this post sucks so much |D

She watched a bit sadly as the bird scrambled away. Not that it was scrambling away from her, that was normal owl behavior. Along with the fluffing up its feathers to appear bigger and scarier. The sad part was how hurt this guy looked? Did he not know how to fly? Maybe he was a pretty young bird, and in that case his injuries would heal quickly once they were taken care of.
After a few moments the bird seemed to calm down a bit, mostly because she hadn't moved from her position. "Poor thing," she said softly watching as the owl tucked away its good wing whereas the other hung down, possibly broken. She really didn't want to scare the bird, and she hoped it understood her when she began to speak. "Don't worry little guy, I'm a vet. I just want to make you feel better, I promise not to hurt you. You're probably in a lot of pain," she admitted softly.
She then slowly moved forward and was able to grab the bird and pick him up. She then grabbed a large enough box and set the bird inside. She took off her jacket and placed that on the top of the box. "Ssshh, don't worry, I'll take good care of you," she admitted softly speaking to the owl in the box. She put her jacket on top of it to hopefully help the owl calm down. If he couldn't see what's going on, he wouldn't freak out as much.
She then proceeded to take him back to her apartment.
OoC: I'll make a new thread in the residential area.
