Human:Personality:
Straight but messy brown hair falls in front of Alex's intelligent green eyes. Skin is a bit pale, more from genetic inheritance than from countless hours spent in his room playing video games. Current height: about 5’9”; expected to grow around one and a half more inches. He has a slim build: Alex is strong, but he has lean muscles that don't stand out. His fox form shows itself somewhat in his human form: his arms and legs are slender, he’s a bit curvier than most males, and his eyes are sharp and bright. His shapeshifter tattoo is located on his upper thigh.
Alex barely ever wears anything brightly colored. He seems to always have a jacket on, whether a hoodie or a lighter short-sleeved jacket, no matter the weather. He'll almost always be wearing jeans, and has an assortment of Converses ranging from plain black, to checkers, to flames. In the cooler weather of fall and winter, he often wears some type of fingerless gloves, and, as usual, has his ever-present iPod.
Shapeshifted: Red fox. Lithe and thin form, meant for quick and nimble movement. Legs, chin, eye mask, ears and the telltale curve-mark on the top of the snout are all black. Dark russet fur all over, with a bit of off white on the chest, belly, and tail. He has the same color green eyes as in human form. As a fox, he stands 45 cm tall, 60 cm long, and with a tail length of 38 cm.
Alex is a bit hotheaded of a character. He has a fierce temper if angered, and usually has very short patience. He always accepts challenges, whether they’re obvious or subtle, head-on and hates more than anything to have to back down. He’s blunt and sarcastic, but also has a good sense of humor. Doesn’t always think before acting, but if he tries, he can put his quick mind to any complicated task. He’s a loyal guy who’ll defend any fair person or opinion. Despite being so apparently reckless, most of his judgments, plans, opinions, and actions seem to have a great deal of thought behind them. Trust is something to be earned with him.History:
When not angry, Alex is a very social person. He strives to include everyone in a group and does his best to make sure no one is left out. He has a flair for the dramatic and enjoys a good laugh. He's quirky, and sometimes reacts unexpectedly to situations.
Alex was born the second out of three. He has one brother, older than him by three years, and a sister who's five years younger. His older brother is in college out-of-state, and rarely visits. Alex's relationship with him is a little bit tense, but they make a point of being on good terms whenever he comes to visit. Alex's younger sister is on much better terms with Alex, and he likes doing kind things for her and trying his best to be a good role model.Sample:
Less than three years ago, Alex's parents filed for separation. He had always liked his father well enough, and was upset when he heard the news. When his mom began dating another man, Alex tried his best to be supportive and get along with him. However, their relationship ended in marriage, and his new step-father began showing his true colors. He was an arrogant man who cared little for his new family. When Alex asked his mother about divorcing her new husband, she admitted that he wasn't right for her, but that he had a good income and they needed it. The teenager despised the man ever since.
Alex stays away from home as much as he can for fear of a confrontation with his step-dad. The only family member he feels really worried about is his sister, and he makes a point to try and keep her out of trouble if he can.
A brisk October wind blew dead leaves and empty candy wrappers across the cracked pavement. Claw-like branches creaked and moaned as they were chilled to the bone in the cold night air. Pale moonlight cast a silver glow over the deserted fairground. The carnival was closed for now, closed until summer came, and then the children would come, flocking, to the brightly lit games and multicolored rides, and music would spill over and the sweet smells of food and axle grease would fill the air. But not now. Now, it was Fall, and the fairgrounds had been closed until next year. Now, the bulky metal rides loomed up, their start frames silhouetted against the city sky.Other:
A lone mass of cloud rolled in front of the moon, temporarily plunging the deserted carnival into the darkest of shadows. Nothing was visible for the next few moments until the sky cleared again, and the faint light shone down once more. The luminescence reflected off the glass in the House of Mirrors, refracting and reshaping the rays as they bounced from surface to surface. A solitary figure was partially reflected in fragments in the mirror images. He sat still among the optical walls, back leaning against one mirror. Arms hugging his knees close, the teen shivered lightly as another crisp autumn wind whistled between the zigzagged hallways. Cursing the weather, he tugged his hood lower over his head and pulled hid hands back farther into his sleeves. The wind blew brown locks into his face, and he closed his green eyes, ducking his head against his knees.
Stupid.
He cursed his decision of a few hours ago. A frustrated groan escaped his mouth, and was whisked away in the wind as he ran his fingers through his hair. Stupid. Such an idiot. What do you think you would have accomplished? Nothing. And now you're hiding out here, freezing your ass off. Damn idiot.
His eyes looked up, glaring accusingly at their own reflection in the opposing mirror. He noticed that they were tinged with red. Just as he was about to blame the cold, he reached up with one numb finger and realized that he was crying. Dammit!
A determined scowl on his face, Alex heaved himself to his feet and took a shaky breath. Stop crying! You can't be crying. He glanced around and hunched his shoulders against the wind once more. Okay...time to go back now. You're exhausted, and it's only going to get colder. Maybe try it again sometime later...when you're better prepared.
That voice of reason couldn't have possibly been his, but he followed it obediently anyway. Hands stuffed in the pockets of his hoodie, the teen left the House of Mirrors and walked along the deserted pavement toward the entrance. Shivering, he sulked, mind still not yet fully grasping what had taken place back home to cause him to run away in the first place. It had all gone by so quickly. Events were blurred together in his head, linked together only by emotional flares. What had happened? He stopped for a moment in the midst of the creaking metalwork, contemplating this for himself.
"I....don't know..."
His voice sounded strange to him; to weak and uncertain. He let out a short growl at his own self-assessment, then continued onward, toward the ticket booth at the front of the park.
But what had happened?
Just a few hours ago, Alex had been in his room, trying to study for a test. It had been going surprisingly well, which alone should have put the boy on alert. He hadn't heard the step-father come in, drunk. Nor did he hear him come clomping up the stairs in his heavy boots, looking for an excuse to fly off the handle. Upon seeing Alex's door closed, he had apparently somehow decided that this was an insult to him. The next thing Alex knew, his study session had been interrupted by the step-ass storming int his room, yelling about Alex isolating himself and trying to purposefully avoid social interaction. A loosing battle had ensued, eventually resulting in Alex's leaving the house in a rage.
And he had come to the fairgrounds.
Now, as he trudged wearily back home, he felt his fiery temper rising up once more against the man. He felt the urge to yell at him, to scream out how he despised that man, how he should leave Alex's family alone. The teen let out an angered shout, then jumped in surprise when a beam of light swung in his direction.
"Who's there?"
Alex's hands were out of his pockets and in front of him in a defensive stance, and he halted in the walkway. Who was tha-...
"This is the Police! You are trespassing on private property! Show yourself!"
The light -it was from a flashlight, Alex was certain,- bobbed closer from around the corner of a food stand, and Alex frowned. Damn! He should have been more careful! He glanced warily around, then made a dash to his left.
"Hey!" The patrol officer was in sight now, scanning the grounds with his flashlight. Alex found himself between two more stands. He stepped back carefully, hands outstretched behind him, eyes glued to the figure of the police officer just a few yards away. "Come out, I know you're here!" The light seemed to move in slow motion in the adolescent's direction.
Alex made a move to run, and nearly crashed headfirst into the wooden wall. Crap! He was trapped! He spun around, staring into the darkness, watching the light as it pierced through the blindness toward him. Five yards, two yards, one yard, two feet...
"Hey!" The policeman exclaimed as his light fell upon the figure between the two stands. "What's a fox doing here?"
The canine twitched its tail in annoyance and glowered at the officer.
"Heh, okay, then. Run along, pup. See here, I thought you were a person! Some trespasser you are. Imagine me taking you in."
The russet-colored vulpine let out a sharp bark, and the officer took a startled step back. Raising his hands in front of him, he made a shrugging apology.
"Well, sorry little fella. I'll leave you be, now." He watched the fox warily. "...Don't eat me now, ya hear....?"
The officer turned to leave, and the fox slunk out of the dead end, then darted down the pavement and out the entrance. It's dark, glittering orbs watched the flashlight's beam disappear as it rounded another corner.
"Idiot," the vulpine growled. The four slender legs trotted swiftly and sent the fox on its way into the darkness. "Now...lets see how much trouble the Step-Ass is gonna have for me,"
