Alex looked up, startled. "The worst person to make me happy? You seem to be doing a very-"
Before he could finish his thought, Danny had taken the few steps needed to close the gap between them, taking Alex's right hand in his own, and leaving his left hand no other choice but to rest on his shoulder. A waltz, eh? Alex felt the faintest flush of red to his face. Oh god, this was going to be embarrassing. He hadn't waltzed since...well, a while ago. He almost half expected the outcome to be himself falling over the edge of the building.
This thought earned him his own half-sarcastic smile. But at least he could remember how to waltz, although it wasn't something the fox-shifting Leader of the Thieves guild did on occasion.

Danny held back a laugh when he saw Alex's shocked expression. Even in the dark of the unlit rooftop, he could see the faint blush that graced the other boy's face. The pale pink quickly faded, however, when the shorter teen smirked. Danny simply smiled calmly back. Judging by the fact he isn't pulling away or changing the position, I'm going to guess the waltz is just fine.
Suddenly, to an unheard waltzing beat, Danny began to move in the according manner. The tips of two boys' sneakers touched as they began twirling in a slow, circular fashion. Danny ended up holding Alex's hand a bit tighter, just in case they accidentally stepping apart.
Most of the night was quiet as they danced, with little interruption from the city below. The only sound besides the slight scuffle of rubber soles was the muted noises of horns and engines, along with the occasional animal cry. It was almost calming.

Despite the strangeness of it all, Alex found that he could relax, easily following Danny's lead to the rhythm that only the taller of the two could hear. Faint traces of songs that fit the waltz swung in and out of the fox shifter's mind, and he danced to those pleasantly before they faded off and lead into another song. Sometimes the tunes would leave him, and he'd be left with no sound, except the quiet, sleeping city, and the two teenagers on the roof.
He faintly wondered what would happen if they were to switch to a hard-rock metal song, and begin pounding on the roof and yelling. What a wondrous night it would be for any unfortunate soul who lived downstairs.
Absently, Alex's mind wandered back to the earlier conversation. Breaking the peaceful silence, he asked aloud, "So, you said something about knowing more about being above the city than I'd ever know. Does one of your parents do something with planes, or do you just hang out on roofs often?" He didn't mean to pry, if the other chose to take it that way. Alex was just trying to be friendly, and make up for his seemingly-sour first impression. Yes. Good idea. Make up for the whiny, angsty teenager who was sitting alone, crying on a rooftop. At least now his spirits had lifted somewhat and he didn't feel as melancholy.

Danny almost didn't hear Alex's question, even though there wasn't much noise to distract him. He was simply too caught up with keeping the tempo, remembering the steps...and maybe even the sheer relaxation of it all. The quiet dance the two teenagers were engaged in was far calmer than anything Danny had experienced the entire week. He just wanted to concentrate on the dance, and not on the troubles of real life.
Of course, that wasn't to say he was going to ignore Alex. The second he realized the other boy spoke, he snapped to attention. "Hm? Oh, right. I guess you could say I spend a lot of time on rooftops," he said, giving Alex a cheery grin. "They're wonderful places to be if you're looking for an easy hiding spot. No one ever thinks to look up." He smiled a bit at the double meaning of the statement. He wasn't going to outright tell Alex about his ability, since he wasn't sure if the other teen could be trusted. But hey, it was still fun to drop hints.
Suddenly, his mind switched over to more practical matters. "Out of curiosity, do you know what time it is?" he asked nonchalantly. If his parents caught him sneaking home late at night, he'd have a lot more questions and a lot less freedom.

OOC|| improveverywhere.com/2005/03/19/look-up-more/ is immediately what I thought of when I read that line. XD BIC|| In his lull, Alex's mind wandered to his daily activities of running the Thieves. He wondered what the rest of them were doing, who was where, any news that was getting around, and what tomorrow had in store for them. Every day was like the toss of a coin: you never could predict what would happen, and whether it would benefit you or not. His worst fear of being discovered by authorities resurfaced in his head, and he immediately tensed, as if by instinct. Danny's reply brought him out of his reverie, and the fox was grateful for the distraction. "I've found that I have to constantly look up," he pointed out, tilting his head and offering the other boy a sly grin. What the grin meant, only Alex knew. When Danny asked him for the time, the shifter simply stared at him for a moment or so. Was he joking, or was he serious? After the strange and unexpected events that had occurred on the rooftop, checking the time seemed so...normal. Weird. Alex hesitantly reclaimed his right arm from the dance position and slowed his steps to a stop, looking at the underside of his wrist. The time "10:13" displayed in a soft blue glow. "It's about ten fifteen," he said, glancing up to meet Danny's shadowed eyes. "PM," he added, feeling the need to clarify, in case any part of Danny's mind wasn't sure as to if it was ten fifteen in the morning, or at night.

Danny returned the peculiar smile the shorter teen gave him, though the raven-shifter was confused as to what it meant. "Congratulations, then," he said, his brown eyes showing signs of warmth, "You may have seen me then."
As Alex moved his hand away, Danny let the dancing position drop completely. He stood there patiently, waiting for the other boy to check the time. "It's about ten fifteen," replied Alex. Danny couldn't help but wince; his parents expected him in bed by ten thirty, even if he usually didn't stay there afterward. He couldn't help but chuckle when Alex tacked on the "pm", though.
"Considering the fact my parents will undoubtedly be in hysterics if I'm not home in fifteen minutes," Danny said, stepping towards the center of the building, "I really need to get going." Of course, looking around, a problem arose; how exactly would he be getting to his house? He couldn't just transform in front of Alex, and he couldn't go down through the building...
Well, crap., the teen thought, considering his predicament. This is going to take some planning.

Alex laughed. "Well, if I've seen you, I haven't recognized you. You don't look all that familiar to me," His mind suddenly froze. Familiar....recognize...those were all things that, in his world, related to Shifting. Not recognizing Shifters while they were in animal form...some animals looking more familiar than others...
Alex blinked absently. He couldn't possibly be a shifter. That's silly. Stop wandering, damn mind. Alex looked at the other boy, drawn back to reality when Danny's voice cut into his thoughts. "R-right. I probably should, too. Fifteen minutes,"
His house was about twenty minutes from this spot, at a brisk walk. On all fours, he should make it home easily. But maybe he IS a Shifter! Maybe he's always on top of buildings and such, and that's why I don't recognize him!
Alex pursed his lips, turning around to contemplate the situation. Maybe he could try dropping some key words? It couldn't turn out that badly.
Alex peered over the edge of the building. "I bet that we look like assassins up here on the rooftop," he joked, gesturing down below as he turned back to face Danny.

Danny blinked, a confused smile fixed on his face. "I guess so..." he said, thinking about what Alex had just said. "But don't you think we look more like thieves?" When people look up on a rooftop, the raven haired teen thought, suddenly distracted by the puzzling statement, they don't assume they're assassins. They think of thieves, right?
Returning his thoughts to the actual problem at hand, Danny casually walked around the edge of the building. There was a door off in the corner of the roof that lead down into the main building. If he could get behind that without Alex noticing, he could transform into a raven and-
Waaaait.
Danny turned to face Alex, his eyes filled with sudden curiosity. He could have SWORN that he heard "thieves" and "assassins" somewhere before. Who was it from? ...Amber? Or someone else? Augh! Why does that sound so familiar?!

Alex's heart jumped as Danny actually replied using the word thieves. For some strange, inexplicable reason, it made him very happy that he seemed to have found another Shifter without giving away any information.
"Thieves, huh? I guess you're right. I'd prefer to be a thief over an assassin, anyway."
Since Danny didn't seem to recognize him as Alex, leader of the thieves, he might as well see if he could get his alliance out there without giving away his position.
Alex met Danny's startlingly curious gaze as the latter turned around.
