she reminded the woman gently, "These medical types don't like being crossed. Besides," she threw a glance back at Xara, "We've got our secret weapon: Xara. Behind the wheel."Xara timidly lifted her middle finger, smiling faintly, though pain shot through her as she thought of the pain she'd put those men through. Bad guys or not, getting hit by a car was never fun for anyone. And Xara had never killed before. Karla snickered cheekily, "You need to get some rest sweetheart," she jibed gently, "you're rib isn't going to heal itself you know. Well," she thought about it comically, "I mean, if you want to get all technical I suppose it will heal itself, but, you know what I mean. Sleep, you. Or lay down or something. Just relax, we'll handle any douche-bag scientists. Maybe we'll lend Xara a wheel chair or something.""Do you ever shut the fuck up?" a visibly exasperated Xara sighed, looking out the door- She closed the door slowly. "Here, I'll close us off from the hall, you can sleep sounder that way, I know I'd be distracted with all those people," she turned to Karla as a subtle hint, "running about in the hall."[/blockquote][/ul]

Sephira sighed in defeat, "Guess there's no arguing with the both of you, I'm terribly outnumbered by you two." She joked, pulling her legs back into the bed and laying down. "Just...stay safe please." She begged the two as she pulled the cover up and over her shoulder, laying on her side.
Sleep sounded good. She was worn out. She also realized that once they gave her the okay to leave, she would be off the constant stream of IV pain killers and would have to rely on slow acting pills. At least with some sleep, she might have the energy to prepare herself for the onslaught of pain she was expecting to endure.
She closed her eyes, drifting off quickly into a deep sleep. Opening her eyes, she was again thrust back into the darkness, "Alright, where are you?" She said in an annoyed tone. The man she had killed appeared before her yet again, but this time with a confused look on his face.
Sephira walked up to the man and grabbed him by his shirt collar right above the top of his trench coat, pulling his face down to hers, "Alright, listen here. I'm getting tired of all this crap you're pulling with the haunting stuff. I've had enough. You can stay here, fine. I don't care. But I'm being chased by your little buddies and need my sleep. If I have to stab you again in here to get you to shut up for a night, I will." Her eyes were cold, her voice full of anger.
The man merely grinned and then let out an amused chuckle, "So, she's finally snapped." He remarked. "No. I just have more to live for." She spat back, letting him go with a small push. He fell back a step and straightened back up, "Well, I'll leave you for now than, seeing as to how you showed me you have some backbone in there somewhere." He laughed and faded away.
"Can I get some light at least? Pitch black nothing gets old after a while." She called out, looking around. "I said I would leave, I didn't say anything about letting you have a happy dream." She heard him call out to her. She sighed and shifted into her bat form, crossing her wings and closing her eyes, "Well, don't bother me. I am a bat after all. Darkness is my best friend." She mocked.
"If I'm going to be stuck in darkness, might as well find something fun to do." She breathed to herself as she unfolded her wings and flew up and straight, pulling off small maneuvers here and there to entertain herself.
Sephira smiled in her sleep, looking at peace for the first time in a while.
(Weeee~ Go backbone! XD)

"I will be fine by myself. You need some sleep." she pitched her voice lower with a glance at Sephira, who seemed to be sleeping nice and calmly. "It's 2 in the morning now. Get some sleep, we should be ready to clear out in the morning. I need you to be healthy as possible, though I don't believe those human pigs will be bothering us in broad daylight." Karla shook her head stubbornly. "You need the sleep as much -no- more than I do." she pointed. She pulled a face as Xara shook her head vigorously, "Why don't you ever sleep, huh? Afraid of the dark or something? Honestly..." Karla winced. "Every-time I sleep I re-live...it..." she hugged herself tentatively, blushing. "And I don't want to disturb anyone."There was a heavy pause in the room, nothing but Sephira's ever beeping heart monitor and her peaceful breathing. Then, "Its still bad?" Xara asked finally, sympathetically. Karla's eyes widened as she frowned, "You told me I wasn't dreaming..."Xara shrugged, "Whats a white lie amongst friends?" So...Xara had lied about Karla's dreams to make Karla feel better? The black haired woman blinked away a fresh set of tears painfully. I am a horrible person "Okay, but only if you sleep too. We'll keep one eye open." she smiled wolfishly, "I would, with you on the road."Xara had walked towards Karla and as she walked past, to the adjacent chair, punched her playfully in the arm. "You know how hard that was, for me?" she plunked herself down in the chair and leaned her head on Karla's shoulder, who stroked her friends soft hair gently. "sorry. I know, and you were... great. I didn't know you could drive, actually?"Xara chuckled, adjusting her head on Karla's shoulders, closing her eyes with a sigh. "I can't." ~ She was in the subway. But she was brave. She stood facing the men and... Max, Xara and Sephira were there, beside her. "Back off." she demanded. And the men... left...Karla's eyes flashed open as the door clicked and creaked, and a man walked in. She jerked Xara awake, who stood immediately, but Karla waved her down. It was the doctor. "She's done well." he muttered, looking over her charts. "She doesn't have next of kin here... so being the people who brought her in, are you going to be the ones taking her home?" Karla nodded. "Yes.""may I ask what your relation is?" "She's a very close friend of mine, we've known each-other for years. I babysat her as a kid and watched her grow up. She's like my little sister..."The doctor nodded, "Very well. When she wakes up, get her dressed, and check her out. I," he said, leaving the room, "am off to my sons basketball game." Karla and Xara said their goodbyes. Xara checked her watch. "It's 1 in the afternoon. if she wakes up now we'll be relatively safe." Karla pursed her lips. "I'm going to go check around and see if those men are still here. I'll be careful," she assured Xara, "I also need a drink."xara nodded reluctantly and watched Karla leave the room, sending off a silent prayer, and went on back to watching Sephira. Wake up...[/blockquote][/ul]

The sound of the door opening was enough to wake her, but she laid there, still as could be, her blond hair in a tangled mess underneath her head and her eyes still closed shut. The beeps from the heart monitor rang in her ears, but she could still make out the doctor's footsteps as he entered the room.
Still not quite all there, her mind still numb with sleep, she could only make out their voices under the constant sounds of the machines next to her head. Slowly, the voices became more clear to her, but she was uninterested of the conversation that was being held.
She tried to return to her sleep, but as soon as she neared falling unconscious her mind would bring her back to her sleep numbed but awakened state. 'Well, so much for sleeping.' She thought to herself groggily.
A few minutes after Karla had excited the room, she slowly brought her small hands up to her eyes and rubbed them in a circular motion as if it seemed to help wake her up, "Mmm...Karla?" She spoke out gently, staring up at the ceiling for a moment before actually looking around for the woman.
Her head turned to face Xara, her lips curling into a small smile, "Oh hey," She sat up, tossing the cover down to her knees lazily, "Where's Karla? Can I go yet? I can't sleep very well here. I tried to go back to sleep" She poked the side of her head playfully, "but for some reason I keep waking back up."
She pulled the majority of her legs out from under the covers and crossed them while she sat in the bed, her feet still covered with the edge of the blanket, "Where is Karla?" She asked, a slight hint of confusion and worry evident in her voice, as she looked about the room in a semi-calm manner.

That retched voice. The blood in Karla's face dropped and she turned on her heel, looking about her in the cafeteria. Nothing. There were people all around her that faded like fog on the shoreline and her hearing dropped from under her except for that retched echoing voice, "Do you remember me!" it demaned, and the sound thundered into her head. she covered her ears and dropped to her knees, screaming silently, her mouth gaping under fresh salted tears. She flinched, as if someone had raised a hand to her, and her voice screamed through her darkness. "Yes! I remember you, please-!" she begged. She hated begging. It was wrong, it wasn't like her to beg like a dog. The voice chuckled, "...like the rat you really are..." Karla had no weapons on her, not even her own body and mind. She fell back and grasped at the ground as if there were something for her to hold onto. She was sitting on solid ground and yet when she grasped her hands found nothingness. What was this place? Karla looked up pleadingly, scrambling back on her hands and heels away from the voice. It had no body, and she could see no ghosts. Who was it? Her eyes widened. "It's okay, it'll only hurt for a bit..."And she screamed as the cafeteria solidified before her. She dropped her spoon on her tray and sweated out her fears, looking about grayishly as if someone had heard her. No one noticed. What was wrong with them? she thought fleetingly, how could they let this happen? But it was only a vision. What is wrong with me? She pondered and gazed wildly about her, jitteringly pushing her chair back with an ungodly screach across the linolium. Great; now they look. she flushed and scittered out through the doors and into the hallway, trying not to look too feverish though- she felt her own forehead and sweat dripped over her hand -she felt it. A nurse looked as if she were going to stop her but didn't have the chance to as Karla bypassed the elevator and rocketed up the staircase, through the fourth level, and into the ICU ward. She'd had visions before, reminiscant of her beatings, but nothing quite like that before and it scared her to the core. It wasn't a good sign, whatever it was, whatever it meant, probably that she was insane. That scared her. Being insane. Was she insane? If she was, she promised herself, she'd drop and kill herself then and there, there was no way she was living through that. No way. Maybe she should seek help. She took a moment and collected herself, just, before entering the room- ~~ "Calm down kid," Xara said as Sephira blabbed on, her voice calm and almost bored, though mostly tired, "Karla's fine." she smiled, mostly genuine but then partially forced, her green eyes soft and caring. Her thin hoody fell off of her in a way that left a lot to the imagination but, surprisinly, would not arous any kind of sexual thoughts. In fact her sweater, navy blue with no hood, complimented her slenderness and transformed it into something benign, like a motherly figure, and made her look...huggable. She didn't know that thats how she looked, but her soft smile and soft featers gave her that likeable, doting look that men died for and sick, hurt people yearned. Karla was a bit rougher around the edges, as she'd always tended to have been even before the accident, but that was because of her jerky movements and cold, calculating blue eyes. Karla was less...homely. Though, Xara reflected sadly, it seemed as if Karla needed a mother now more than a daughter and, well... she gave Sephira a sad smile, her eyes darting about the room uncertainly. Karla desperately wanted to care for this girl and Xara could see that it would kill her to let her go but Karla had problems of her own to take care of, and Sephira would only end up getting hurt. She frowned uncertainly, "Sephira?" she asked softly, taking the girls hand, "You know..." Xara chuckled, her sweet soft grin showing off a set of perfect white teeth, "Karla's become really attached to you. Now I don't know what you've done to get so lucky," she said with a hint of irony, then her expression darkened thoughtfully, "but she's been through alot of...what I mean to say is that..." she sighed, "terrible things have been done to Karla. Unspeakable things. She's got a lot of inner demons and she's... broken. I don't know what it is about you that fixes her," her sadness was laced in just a drip of jealousy, "But I want you to know that she may seem all stoic and strong but she has her bad days as well. If ever you feel like your life is in danger with he, or that her own life is because of her, call me. Always, always feel free to call me. Okay? I'll come right away..." and it was the truth. It showed in her deep green eyes, glittering with sadness and earnesty. She would help. [/blockquote] [/ul]

"But I want you to know that she may seem all stoic and strong but she has her bad days as well. If ever you feel like your life is in danger with her, or that her own life is because of her, call me. Always, always feel free to call me. Okay? I'll come right away..."
Sephira let Xara's words sink in as she listened intently to the woman, hanging on to every word. It was obvious that she cared for Karla. She only knew her for about a day or so, Xara has probably known her for months or years even.
She felt sympathy for the woman, noticing the look of jealousy and pain in her features as she spoke about her friend. She gave a slow nod, "I will, don't worry. But I don't believe Karla would ever mean to hurt me." She spoke softly as she stood up and walked over to the window to look out at the street below, dragging the IV pole along behind her.
She squinted as she looked down at a few men standing outside just below them smoking. The trench coats looked the same as the man's she had killed. Her eyes widened slightly as she jerked around, her tangled blond hair whipping around behind her, and headed towards the door. She stopped at the end of her bed, where she ripped the IV out of her hand and pulled off the other monitors and such from her chest and finger.
"We have to get out of here now." She spoke out assertively as she looked back at Xara for a few seconds before continuing the door, "We need to find Karla and leave this-" She was stopped as she opened the door to see Karla standing there in front of her. She stood there for a moment, blood dripping from the open hole on the top of her hand where the IV once was making a tiny pool of blood on the floor below her.
"Karla!" She cried out as she closed the gap between her and the woman with a gentle hug, burying her face into her chest. Without releasing her, she looked up into her eyes and spoke in a disturbed voice, "Karla, the bad men are here. We need to leave before they find out we're here too."
She looked like a lost child who had just called her mother to look for the monster under her bed, her deep blue eyes sparkling with concern for all of their well-being. "Please, I don't want anyone to get hurt again." She begged, also looking at Xara with the same face.

, Sephira." her gaze hardened. "People get hurt sometimes. This is a dangerous, dangerous place and sometimes theres noting we can do about it." She'd gotten that look about her again: far away, dark and dull. Painless, loveless... dead. She blinked once and it was gone, replaced with a smile and a stoic humor. "Bu' sometimes you can do something about it, and I'll be damned if they get you again." her smile was genuine and she stroked the girls hair comfortingly. But, then again, so was her depression. Xara frowned at her statement but said nothing: it was true it was just that she didn't have to say it, this girl was half mad with fear you idiot. But, what could she say? She didn't know if Karla was fixable, if she was going insane, or if she just liked watching people squirm. But her friend gave her a lost, hopeless look and, as if they could read each-others minds, she knew Karla was going to go for help. Then she smiled, as if the weight of the world was lifted off of her. Thank God, Karla...The oldest woman shuffled Sephira back into the room. "I'm not running around with a half naked girl, bleeding," she gingerly touched the wound on the girls hand, "and besides if you walk out looking like that they'll know its you right off the bat. And you're going to catch your death out there wearing that...just get changed, alright?" Xara chuckled mockingly, "Yes, mom." Instead of punching her in the arm, Karla brushed Xara's arm gently with her hand, and smiled meekly. She wasn't in the mood for playful banter but she wasn't angry. Xara's smiled faded gently and she nodded. "Right, well we'll need to go out the other entrance then, yes?" Karla nodded, "Yep. It's where the car is parked too, isn't it?" and Xara nodded briskly. Then what? Xara fished in her pocket for the keys and tossed them to Karla, "I'll take care of Sephira. If she needs help walking or we need to get out fast and someone needs to carry her, you wouldn't be able to do it. You're still too weak." Karla's face contorted into that old, defiant woman she'd known and Xara hid a smile. "I'm not going to argue. She'll be safe with me. You get the car." Karla pouted comically. "You big jerk. Fine, I'll take the shit-mobile." she said to Sephira, "You'll be alright here, with Xara. She'll set us both straight if she had the chance, a freaking drill sergeant she is..." she hugged the woman briskly, then offered Xara a two fingered salute, walking out of the door and into the hall. It was full of people and as she walked she felt like she was playing an impossible game of frogger. She weaved and ducked, shooting down the stairs and towards the exit. "Remember me."her breath caught in her chest. There was that voice but... it was kindly, now. What? She felt safe. No, that couldn't be right- The doors opened with a whoosh and she stepped out into the sunlight. It was her father. Thats who the voice belonged to. Why would she remember him? That jackass. She smothered her anger. Leave me alone dad, for like, five seconds? "Hey," Karla turned about on her heel to face the voices. Her blood fled from her. "You!" [/blockquote] [/ul]

Sephira pouted as she was ushered back into the room by Karla. But she was reminded of her hospital gown, making her blush and reach back to hold the back of it closed.
She decided in her mind that it wouldn't be wise to try and argue with them, so she merely just nodded in response to the comments made towards her and stayed quiet otherwise.
She looked about the small white room for a moment, only to come to the conclusion that they had probably cut her shirt and pants off upon reaching the hospital and threw them away. She let out a hopeless sigh as she made her way back over to the bed, pivoting around on her heels and plopping down on the bed.
She watched as the two discussed plans for the escape and waved to Karla as she walked out the door with the keys, nodding to her comment about Xara with a humorous smile. As the door closed behind her, she turned to Xara with a concerned look about her face, "I'm worried about Karla being by herself out there, but..." She pinched some of the gown on her chest and lifted it up for a moment before letting it drop back down onto her skin, "This is all I got to wear. I guess they cut up all the clothes I came in wearing."
She looked about the room, pondering on how to go about getting out of this place without walking out half naked. She leaned forward and her eyes widened in suprise.
"I got an idea." She said to Xara with a mischevious grin. She slid off the bed and kneeled down, grabbing a complementary cloth bag from under the bed for the patient's belongings if they had anything with them. She stood up holding it in her good hand and walked over to Xara, giving it to her.
"We can go now, look! You can sneak me out!" She held onto the bag as she shifted into her bat form, climbing into it and looking up at her from the inside, her tiny mussle twisted into a small smile. Of course, she wouldn't object to it if Xara said no and made her get out. But with the top of the bag closed, no one could see her unless she poked her head out.

"In the bag numb-nuts now go!" In the bag...? She must be in her shifter form, she thought as she scoped out the exit. Karla's toe was on the gas and- Xara screamed in blind pain and terror. A man, a scientist, had followed them. He'd opened the door and wrapped his pigish little hands through her hair and was yanking her out into the parking lot... ...and Karla was on the concrete ground, blood all around her, water all around her, swimming, drowning, begging and she couldn't get up and they were laughing at her and...
"Help her you twit!" Her fathers voice tore through her like a fire and she brought her hands around Xara's hair nearer to the scalp and yanked her away from him, some of the hair coming out, and Xara reached out to close the door just as the man fell back from the sudden release of what it was that was holding him up, a big clump of red hair clutching between his fingers. Xara had not let go of the bag. Karla's tires screamed out of the parking lot and onto the highway and she did not stop until she reached her apartment. She slammed on her brakes, threw it into park and sat, her head resting on the steering wheel, sobbing. "Sorry, I'm sorry, Xara, I'm so, so sorry... Sephira..I'm so sorry..." Although it felt as if the bag was being held as carefully as possible, she had to try her hardest not to let out a squeek or any kind of noise for that matter as she was slightly tossed about in the bag. It suddenly became still as she felt her back side being placed onto a flat surface.
She was getting ready to pop her head out of the bag when she suddenly felt herself thrust back down to the bottom of her bag by Xara's arm as her hair was being pulled by one of the scientists.
She had no idea what was going on up until the point that Xara's arm was lifted back up and she heard tires screeching on cement. A little bit afterwards, she felt them slightly jerk to a stop.
It was silent aside from Karla's sobs. She poked her head of the bag, looking a little roughed up from the bag ruffling her fur about while she was being carried.
"Sorry, I'm sorry, Xara, I'm so, so sorry... Sephira..I'm so sorry..." She heard the woman cry out in between sobs.
She climbed out of the bag and across the seats onto Karla's lap and laid her head on the woman's stomach as if motioning to try and comfort her, 'It's not your fault. It's mine really. So long as you two are with me, you're going to get hurt by those bad men.' She thought to herself. A small tear fell from her eye, sinking into the fur on her face.
Her adrenaline was starting to fade along with the medicine in her system and she collapsed in a tiny heap in Karla's lap. She grit her teeth, trying not to show how much pain she was in so that neither of them would worry too much.
After a few minutes she could no longer hold on to consciousness and passed out. Her face loosened up and she looked at peace again, sleep bringing about a sort of temporary relief from her pains. In her mind, just before passing out, she let out a sigh of relief, 'At least in this form either one of them can easily transport or hide me.'
