Zach trudged in slowly, his hands in his pockets as he felt a nice breeze hit his face. He closed his eyes and stood in a patch of grass nearby the lake. He re-opened them, looking to the side to view the water. It sparkled like stars, seeming so refreshing. His black hair held no other other color as the sun shone on it. His eyes gleamed sapphire as he looked up. Squinting, he looked around. He sat down on the grass and ended up laying back. He smiled to himself once his eyes closed and he let out a content sigh. He picked a good spot too, being under a tree. He could smell the grasses' scent and felt the smooth surface of it. Not that bad here so far.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad340/Toki_Graphix/Regular%20PT/Taavi---Red-Fox-1.png] A four foot, eleven inch tall Asian girl scurried down the dirt path leading to the lake. Since the fox shifter didn't own a car or any other mode of transportation, she had ran in her shifted form for most of the way. Taavi had, however, hiked the last mile and a half in her human form. For a girl who had legs half the size of most people, this was quite an accomplishment. The girl continued down to the lake shore and stood at the lake shore. Taavi glanced around, trying to decide where she was going to be. She wanted to be close enough to observe the wildlife, but not out in the open for that would scare both the wildlife and draw unwanted attention from others. The lake water was a deep blue, sparkling in the warm sunlight. Around the lake was a collection of docks, boats, and huge groups of cattails.
'Bingo,' thought Taavi, short legs quickly making way over to the taller than her cattails. Immersing herself into their scratchy stems, she found the ground to be muddy and wet. She lifted one waterproof boot and then the other, watching the mud squish and squash beneath her feet. Peering around, Taavi fingered her brand new pocket knife. Trinell, her one and pretty much only friend, had given it to her the other day with very specific instructions about rules and how Taavi wasn't allowed to stab anyone with it unless they were attacking her. And then the taller girl had gone on to list how some scumbag of a guy putting his hand on her shoulder or looking at Taavi didn't count as being attacked. Taavi rolled her eyes. Obviously Trin needed a chance to reevaluate what she had specified as an 'attack.' Taavi was sure the girl would come around and realize that any guy who even so much as thought of Taavi deserved horrendous things to be done to him. Nevertheless, thinking of Trinell and her lovely gift, brought Taavi back to her current dilemma.
Taavi gripped her new pocketknife, drew it out of her oversized blue jeans, and used it to hack off the nearest couple of reeds. With a grin, she laid them down, creating a small layer between herself and the mud. If she chopped off enough of the cattails, she could create a wonderful covering of mattress-like quality. However, Taavi would hate to disturb the natural environment too much, because doing that would make where she was stick out like a sore thumb. So the girl worked carefully, taking only a few reeds and cattails from each area before moving on. Soon she had a large bundle of reeds spread over the ground, creating a thick carpet between her and the muck. The fox shifter hacked off a large reed leaf. She then carefully wiped the mud and plant juices off of her knife before placing it back in her pocket. Sitting on her carpet of reeds, Taavi wiped the mud off of her boots and then sat, cross-legged, on her reed carpet. The girl then sat there for the next several hours watching passing waterfowl and small rodents.
Later, she stiffly stood up, stretching sore muscles. Sitting still for hours at a time is something Taavi can do, but she always pays for it later. She placed both her hands on her lower back and leaned back, feeling her back crack several times. With a small -- but satisfied -- smirk, the girl managed to scatter the reed carpet in a way that sort of looked natural. Remembering the long run in front of her, she groaned. Of course she just had to forget that she had the twenty mile run to do. Taavi frowned, still rubbing her lower back. After a minute, and a cautious glance around, the girl shifted. A couple minutes later a small red fox was seen trotting out of the reeds. In the cool grass, the tiny vixen paused to stretch in a rather catlike manner, bum up in the air and shoulder rotating comfortably forward. With a wag of her puffy tail, Taavi bounded forward, tongue lolling out comfortably.
However, the fox-girl screeched to halt when the wind shifted directions, bringing the scent of a human male towards her. She instinctively crouched and headed for the nearest cover, the reeds. Safely hidden from view, Taavi stood on her hind legs to better be able to see the cause of the scent. After a short moment, the girl spotted it. There, laying beneath a large tree and nestled safely in the refreshing grass was a boy. Taavi soundlessly crept closer, peering intently at him. He appeared to be asleep, his breathing was even and his eyes closed. His muscles were not tense, so he appeared to not expect any sort of attack. Obviously he didn't know Taavi was here. With a wide, dog-like smirk, Taavi contemplated on what she could do to him and what she could use for weapons. It never occurred to her that he may not deserve to be attacked; he was male and he therefore deserved to be brutally ambushed. Of course, there were all sorts of attacks: physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically, socially, or just generally pissing someone off.
Taavi opted for just generally pissing him off. After all, that way if Trinell -- who was not only Taavi's friend but also put limits on how much Taavi was allowed to torment the opposite sex -- knew the guy, and Trinell knew everyone, Taavi couldn't get in trouble -- or as much trouble. Taavi wondered what would irritate the guy the most. 'Lessee here,' she thought as she circled him, 'if he's like one of those guys I see at the mall, he's mostly concerned about how he looks and his clothing.' She paused and snorted, 'How stupid.' With that she continued her silent circling, 'I bet he'd hate it if his clothing was to get a little bit muddy.' Taavi grinned slowly as she glanced between the lake and the guy. It faded as she realized there was no way she could possibly dump him in the lake, in either of her forms. She just wasn't that strong. With a small snarl of frustration, she stopped and stared at the boy. Her foot suddenly itched, and she leaned down to rub it with her nose. She gave out a small sneeze as mud got on her nose. 'Of course!' she thought rather excitedly as she ran towards the muddy lake shore.
The girl eagerly pranced in the mud, causing clumps of it to stick to her fur and splatter pretty much everywhere. After her feet and legs were completely wet and muck covered, she trotted carefully back to the boy, trying not to let any mud slide off. Reaching the boy, she hesitated, not really wanting to get close enough to have to do this. With a small sigh and shake of her head, she proceeded to dance all over the boy's chest. As soon has he had muddy paw prints all over his now dirty shirt, she darted out of reach, ready to watch his reaction from the shadows of a conveniently placed bush. Taavi crouched underneath, certain he had seen where she had gone, but just as certain she could out run him if he tried to come after her. A satisfied smirk prowled on her lips. 'Taavi: one, Unidentified Stupid Male: ZERO.'

Zach was sound asleep as Taavi had done her muddy action. His eyes blinked open slowly as he had felt her light paws tickle his body and he sat up. His eyes shifted swiftly to the movement, whom he didn't know was the fox. He scratches his chest, raising his eyebrow as he looked down. Mud smeared everywhere on his shirt. " What the hell?" he murmured under his breath as he stood up. He raised his arms to get a better view of his filthy clothes. Zach's eyes whipped upward towards the lake as he walked to it. A confused expression stuck on his face, not understanding how in the world he was covered in muck. He stepped near to the water and sat down, taking off his shirt, revealing a good body build he had. He leaned to the refreshing lake and dipped his shirt, rinsing it off of all the mud that had- unknowingly- got onto him. The shirt soaked in the water for some time as Zach stared off at the lake. He dragged his hand through his messy hair that had somewhat made him look handsome and charming. The thought of his sister struck his mind, his face turning hard and his heart burning. A stray tear formed down his cheek. He realized how he must have looked soft, and he brought his hands to his face, carrying them on his knees. He let his hands droop down his face as he ended up looking down at his shirt. He grabbed it, standing. Whipping it onto his shoulder, he held it from the tip.
Zach's attention snapped when he had caught a scent of dirt and fox. He raised his head slightly from the floor and he turned to look off his shoulder. His cold eyes shot straight toward where Taavi had vanished to and he fully turned. One hand in his pocket, he looked toward the bush. His blue eyes squinted as he tried to locate where the fox-girl's hiding was, though he let it slide. He sighed and turned back around. He looked at his watch, which had a drop of mud on it he has to flick off, and he looked at the time. Eight in the morning. He grunted and rubbed his eye, looking back forward as he started to walk away from the scent of Taavi.
His mind wondered off as he was slightly curious about the scent.

He sat up slowly, eyes blinking sleepily. One hand absentmindedly scratched his chest, before he looked down and muttered something. His face slowly filled with confusion – he obviously didn’t know what had just happened. Standing, he half-lifted his arms to get a better view of his rather wet and muddy shirt. Disbelief still filled his eyes as he walked down to the water. There he sat, removing his shirt. He then dipped his shirt into the water so he could try and rinse the globs of mud off. As soon as Taavi was certain he wouldn’t look, she darted down to the reeds in a crouching hunt position. From there, she crept closer until she was only a couple of feet away. Fortunately, her coat blended in fairly well with the mottled color of the reeds, so it was unlikely that he would spot her.
Sunlight gleamed off of his muscular back, but Taavi was unimpressed. She wasn’t interested in guys. In fact, she hated them with all her might, which for the tiny girl, it was quite a lot of might. Of course, she wasn’t exactly interested in girls either. As far as romance goes, Taavi has no interest in it – no interest what-so-ever. Taavi continued to watch him, as he suddenly stopped dipping the shirt in and out of the water and just let it sit there. To be honest, he really wasn’t doing much to help the shirt. The water there was really too shallow to help rinse off the mud, all he was really doing was dragging the shirt around in muck and stirring it up. ’Stupid boy.’ Taavi thought, feeling more intelligent the longer she watched him. He ran his hand through his hair, making himself look what any normal girl would call rakishly handsome. Too bad Taavi wasn’t normal. With a small snort of disagreement, she crouched lower and ignored the mud that licked at the white hairs beneath her belly. She could always wash up later.
She froze as the boy’s face turned hard. Had he seen her? No, that was impossible. Okay, fine. Improbable. He didn’t move, just stared of into space. Sunlight glinted off of a spot on his cheek, and Taavi realized he was crying. Crying over what? His shirt? ’Wimp.’ she thought, ignoring the vacant look in his eyes that suggested a flashback. He pulled his knees and hands towards his face, then let his hands drop, gaze falling on his shirt that was threatening to drift away. The boy grabbed his soaked shirt and threw it over one shoulder, ignoring how the water dripped down his back and soaked his pants. Taavi raised an invisible eyebrow. This guy had to have a screw loose. Not many would have just tossed a sopping wet shirt over their shoulder without wringing it dry first.
The boy slipped one hand into his pocket as he nonchalantly glanced over his shoulder in the direction of the bush that Taavi had taken refuge under. The vixen looked as well, wary. Had he spotted something there? Or caught her scent? That was impossible, wasn’t it? Taavi’s senses were normal human ones when she was in human form. He couldn’t have scented her then. After all, he was just a stupid human boy. Relieved, Taavi lifted her head slightly, nose sniffing the air and trying to determine what the boy had seen. From the general direction of the bush came the scent of squirrel, rabbit, and coyote. Taavi returned her attention back to Zach in time to see him intently staring at the bush. Her gaze anxiously flickered back and forth as she crouched lower. She had no idea if the boy had a gun or knife in his pocket, but she sure as hell wasn’t going to get surprised if he did.
With a sigh, the boy turned around and continued to stride away. He glanced down at something on his wrist, brushed it off, and then grunted, rubbing one eye. Taavi was betting it was a watch, although she wasn’t close enough to tell if she was right or not. Realizing he wasn’t coming back, Taavi scurried after him, keeping to the dense brush and other such places where he wouldn’t be able to spot her. Her mind wandered to what time it could be. The fox shifter mentally tallied her day. She had woken up, and then trotted out onto the lake. Then she had sat for hours watching the birds and other animals move about. Eh, Taavi was going to say it was nine, nine-thirty in the morning? Whatever. Taavi wasn’t really worried about the time. She had nothing really planned today other then the bird watching this morning. Unless Trinell came and dragged her off to some stupid ... thing. Taavi shook her head and kept a keen eye on the boy, waiting for a chance to ‘attack’ him again. He was too obvious of a target to give up.
A vague look ventured back into his eyes, signaling to Taavi that he was no longer really paying attention to where he was going. Now it was time to somehow trip him up. Literally. Taavi slipped up and down through the woods, looking for the perfect place for a face splat. Finding a mud puddle, Taavi tried to decide if he would stay in his unobservant state for that long. Deciding the puddle was too far away, the vixen trotted back towards Zach. With a small shrug, she decided just him falling on his face would be good enough. She darted underneath his feet, staying just long enough to hopefully cause him to trip. The vixen darted beneath more forest foliage. Too bad him falling wouldn’t be that devastating. There was just the normal dirt, leaves, rocks and twigs that usually littered a forest path ground. Taavi smirked, safe in her little hide out. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me? ’Let’s hope so.’

Zach could feel his back wet and cold, the breeze just catching the water drops that dripped down.
He continued to smell a scent though he ignored it. His sapphire eyes glinted as he looked up, though he suddenly whipped his eyes back forward when he heard a rustle. He stood still for a moment, until Taavi's wittiness brought her to swiftly scurry by his legs. Surprised, Zach picked up his feet, not wanting to harm the fox-girl. He gritted his teeth, slightly annoyed at how she just stood there. He blinked as he was going to fall, though as he was tumbling down, he heard his watch beep the alarm. Zach flinched as he heard the noise and he shut his eyes. " Shit!" he hollered.
As quick as he was falling, his human body transformed into a massive, coffee-colored Grizzly bear. His eyes snapped open as they had changed to a dark chocolate brown. His gapping mouth revealed large teeth and his fingers formed into claws than nails. He roared as he fell onto the floor, ending with a loud thud. He shook his head, standing back up. Clouds of dust floated by his legs from the impact and he looked around, his eyes squinted slightly. He dragged his paw against his furry head, letting it drop back on the ground as he turned, looking for the fox. He grunted, a pair of teeth showing. He looked down at his shirt and gave a little kick at it with his foot, dirt flying onto it.
Zach looked forward, though he stood on his hind legs as he turned, scenting the same familiar scent he encountered before. The fox-girl! He jerked his head as he dropped back down on all four and walked toward where the fox was. A curious look was in his warm eyes as he looked into the hide-out where Taavi stayed hidden. As he searched through the thick brush, he caught sight of a beautiful pair of slitted pupils. The fox's silk-like coat blended with her surrounding area, though Zach saw it.
Though... he had an urge not to attack, though he kept his stare at the fox's. After a quiet moment that only seemed like a few seconds, he moved back and stood on his hind legs, turning his body, his head followed. He looked back forward and walked on all his legs, heading back through the direction he was heading to in the first place.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad340/Toki_Graphix/Regular%20PT/Taavi---Red-Fox-1.png] Taavi crouched in the bushes, front paws padding the dirt restlessly. She watched intently as Zach started to trip. As he was falling, his watch beeped. In that instant, brown fur sprouted from his arms and legs. "HOLY SHIT MONKEYS." Taavi exclaimed as she scurried back. In the middle of the path lay a massive brown bear. With of a shake of his head, he stood up, brown fur ruffling in the slight breeze. With a small gulp, Taavi slipped further into the bushes, away from the enormous being. How was this even possible? The only way Taavi could shift was through a freak genetic accident. How the hell could this retarded male shift? And into a bear? Taavi whimpered slightly as the bear stood on his hind feet, nose working studiously through the different scents that wafted in the wind. As the bear dropped back to all fours, his head snapped towards Taavi and he began to lumber over to her. 'Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit.' Taavi mentally repeated, crouching lower to the ground and glaring up at the bear with defiant, and some what frightened, eyes.
A thought suddenly occurred to her. Foxes were faster then bears, right? So if worse came to worse, she could literally just take off like a scared rabbit. Emboldened by this thought, she dared to lift up her lips and snarl, sharp little white teeth glaring dangerously. 'Fuck off, furball.' Taavi mentally said, sounding much braver than she felt. The bear loomed over Taavi for a long moment, his curious gaze locked on Taavi's angry one. He then turned around and stood on two legs again, eyes calmly scanning the woods before he dropped to four legs and set off in his original direction. Relieved he hadn't taken the offensive, Taavi turned tail and sprinted in the opposite direction. What the hell was wrong with this world? Not only was Taavi a freak of nature, but this guy was too. Her racing legs slowed as she considered this new turn of events. If Taavi was a shifter, and this guy was a shifter...how many more shifters were out there? And since they were able to shift into different animal forms, what other animal shifters were there? Badgers? Mice? Maybe even birds?
Taavi came to a halt and sat, tail curling around her paws thoughtfully. Was there a shifter community of sorts? Or were shifters so rare that they rarely see each other. Taavi gave a small gasp. Maybe her and that guy were the only shifters in the world! She just had to talk to him - no matter how repulsive he was. With a grimace, she turned and sped through the forest back to where the bear guy had left. She lowered her nose to the woodland dirt and inhaled. With a weird little coughing sneeze, she sneezed the dust she had breathed in back out. She sniffed again, more carefully. This time, Taavi was able to catch his musty bear/human scent. She trotted off in the same direction as he had, carefully following his scent. After twenty minutes or so, she saw him ahead. Taavi sat, contemplating the best way to approach him. How did one tell someone they hated that they wanted to know what that person did?
Taavi rolled her eyes. Why the hell was she concerned with formalities now? She leaped onto a low, nearby tree branch and worked her way towards the bear, leaping from tree to tree. Settling on a branch above his head, she carefully planned a couple of escape routes if needed. She half stood half crouched above his head, tail waving back and forth for balance before calling out to him. "HEY YOU. How the hell did you do that? Turn from a human to a bear?" He wouldn't know she was human. There was no way he could tell. Her human scent was almost completely covered in the smell of pond water, mud, and fox. Not only that, but she had positioned herself so the wind would blow her scent away from him. Any whiffs of her would just smell like mud and fox. Now, to learn if there were more shifters.

He continued walking, at a fair pace. His paws dragged along the dirt as his gaze was forward. He could hear pitter patter behind him, sensing it was Taavi. His ear flicked, and he looked to the side, catching a glimpse of her. He grunted and he looked up, looking around. He heard her when she had spoken, and he gave a bear-like smile. Zach knew, that even though he was in animal form; he could turn back human. But, it had been awhile, which made his alarm beep in the first place. He breathed out his large, wet nose, and stayed as an animal.
" I apologize, but I don't have a lot of time on my hands to really talk." he regretted answering. What else could he do? They saw him. The voice that had called down at him was like a ring. It was melodic, and sweet. A fire burned in it as well. A tough, don't piss me off kind of catch to it. He looked around, deciding to act clueless when honestly, he didn't actually KNOW where Taavi was hidden. Even as a human, he scented many smells, not catching the right one. " I changed..." he said, looking around, casual, " Because it's what I am." he gave a bear shrug, " Obviously. A shapeshifter if you will." he gave a small toothy gin a bit, white pearly teeth showing. He sat down, comfortably. " Now, I'd be easier to talk if I didn't feel like I was speaking to think air." he looked around, " May I see who is asking?" he asked, his voice deep with a warm atmosphere to it. He wasn't trying to flirt. It was just his voice. A smooth, charming aura.
The forest was extremely quiet, as his chocolate eyes sparked with the rays of sun that would streak through the leaves above them. Who was, after all, asking? Thoughts ran through his head, wondering why all these strange things were occurring at once. The fox that stalked him, and now a female voice inspecting him? He let it drop though, and he focused on who this stranger was.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad340/Toki_Graphix/Regular%20PT/Taavi---Red-Fox-1.png] The bear halted when Taavi barked out at him. A small smile tweaked up the corners of his lips, causing Taavi to feel a twinge of amusement. Have you ever seen a bear try to smile? No? Too bad, it was quite the amusing sight. Of course, a fox smile wasn't any better, but hey. Taavi would take what she could get. The bear sighed, causing his large nostrils to flare slightly. After another moment, he spoke. "I apologize, but I don't have a lot of time on my hands to really talk." Taavi raised a non-existent eyebrow. He was a bear in the middle of nowhere. How could he not have time?
The bear shifter glanced about, seemingly trying to find where Taavi's voice was coming from. Was it really all that hard to find her? She was sitting right above his head. As he spoke again, Taavi realized why he was having some difficulty figuring out where she was. "I changed..." he paused here, glancing around. "Because it's what I am." His voiced bounced off of nearby trees, echoing in the near silence of the woods. Taavi cocked her head, wondering where the normal animal sounds had gone. She stood, no longer crouched close to the branch, and glanced around the forest. Oblivious to Taavi's unease, the guy continued speaking. "Obviously. A shapeshifter if you will." The sounds of Taavi and this guy talking shouldn't have disturbed them this much. Suddenly feeling as though she was being watched, she crouched close to the branch again. Absentmindedly listening to what the bear said, she gathered her hind legs under her in preparation for a leap. She'd be ready if something jumped out at them.
The bear settled into the center of the path, grinning once again. " Now, I'd be easier to talk if I didn't feel like I was speaking to thin air." Taavi glanced down at him. "May I see who is asking?" Taavi mulled over the request for a brief second. He was bound to see her eventually, but why do as he asked? Flippantly, she replied, "No, I think I'm fairly comfortable where I am." Actually, her legs, shoulders, and thighs were aching, but that was beside the point. "No." Her voice was flippant and the fox-girl was intentionally trying to piss the bear dude off. "So you're a shapeshifter, eh? Can you only shapeshift into animals or can you shapeshift into other things too?" Taavi rolled her eyes. She hated playing dumb, but it was just so darn easy to do. Besides, there was always the possibility that he was able to shapeshift into more then one animal.
Taavi contemplated the possibilities. What would had happened to her if she had stayed with the one scientist who had made her what she was? Probably would have been poked and prodded by scientists for the rest of her life. Taavi peered closely at Zach. What scientist had made him the way he was? Why had that scientist chosen bear as that boy's shift? Why hadn't Taavi's scientist chosen something destructive like that for her? Did he think Taavi was too dainty to be able to be a bear? 'Fuuuuuck him. I should go back and kick his sorry ass. The fuckin' scientist should have chosen something cooler...liiiike. A panther! Or a LION! Or, or....orrrr....' Taavi's thoughts trailed off before she continued to mentally curse her ex-foster dad-mad scientist person.

Zach closed his eyes, his breathing normal, " No, I can only transform into this.. disappointingly." he muttered. His wet nose wiggled for a moment, when Taavi had stood up. A wave of the breeze whisked past his snout and he looked up at the branch Taavi was perched. He stood up and he went on his hind legs. He looked up at her, seeing her figure and he gave a nice bear smile. His brown eyes shined, " Ah, there you are." he put his paw on his muzzle, " The fox."
He watched her, " Why must I answer all your questions when you cant simply let me so who asks them? It's not like I was going to eat you." he smirked, laughing a little to himself. His large fangs showed, though he looked back at her. " Well, it was nice to meet you, Fox, but I'll be on my way." he bowed his head, getting back on his four paws. He turned, walking away. After awhile, he felt something in him and he breathed out. He turned back human, looking at his watch.
He sighed and he suddenly jerked forward. He held onto a tree, coughing. He covered his mouth, though when he pulled it away, blood was splattered on it.
Zach stared at the blood. He flicked it off and he continued walking, his eyes blank. He had suddenly remembered about his shirt and decided to leave it. He coughed again, dropping onto his knees. His back cringed as he kept coughing, gasping for air as blood trickled down. He grunted, sitting against one tree.
