Exhausted.
Completely and totally drained; mentally, emotionally, or otherwise. That was how Rohjyx felt as he finished gathering all of his paperwork -much of which still needed to be closely read and checked for loopholes and or anything that could possibly be traced back to the Guild or any of its members- and placed them into their respective piles . Around him, several other people packed their papers up and mumbled to each other about what they were going to do when they left. All of them were exhausted as well, but none of them hid it as well as Rohjyx. To anyone who didn't know him well, -Roscoe, Tabris, and Anne, were really the only ones who did know him at all- he looked as cold and composed as ever.
"Ah, Mr. Ryne?" Proud ice eyes glanced up, instantly locking onto the small, portly man's nervous brown gaze. "I apologize but I forgot to give you this during the meeting." A plump hand held out a sheaf of papers, which Rohjyx stared at for a second before grabbing and lazily flipping through the pages. Each was covered in neat, tiny black font, filling the pages with hundreds of tiny words that only went into disgusting detail about something that could be summed up in a few sentences or maybe even -gasp- a paragraph. "I'll look over it later and get back to you." He said after a moment, low voice leaving no room for argument. The man gulped a bit, Rohjyx lackadaisically turning his eyes from the paperwork back to his eyes, and nodded before quickly hurrying away to join the majority of the plump businessmen as they left the house. Rohjyx dropped the group of papers onto the table, ignoring the various men still left in the house as he sat back down in his chair.
It was a nice house, really. A simple two-story tan building with a few bedrooms, a couple of bathrooms, a nice living room and kitchen, and a large family room. The family room, which held a rather large mahogany wood table, was where Rohjyx was still standing, organizing his papers by his seat at the head of the table. All of the chairs were neatly tucked in, minus his own, and the table was clear of all of the papers that had been covering only minutes before.
All of his work properly placed and ready to be reviewed now, Rohjyx looked around to make sure he was alone and out of sight before leaning back in his chair -which was a wonderfully comfortable chair- and closing his eyes, taking a moment to simply relax and gather his low energy.
Eyes snapping open at the sound of footsteps approaching, Rohjyx let his chair go back to its upright position, his eyes fixing sharply on the young man approaching him. "Mr. Rohjyx Ryne?" He asked, a faint Italian accent lilting his words. Rohjyx nodded at him. "My boss sent me here to give this to you. He said he trusts you to get the job done right." Said the man calmly, pulling a thick manila folder out of his dark suit jacket and handing it to the assassin. Rohjyx took it with a soft, low sound at the back of his throat and opened the folder.
Removing the papers from inside, Rohjyx was unsurprised to find that he had been hired for a new assassination by a man he had worked for a few times before from Italy. Smirking ever so slightly now, Rohjyx skimmed over the information presented to him and glanced up at the young man. He was doing a spectacular job of keeping his face blank but he wasn't keeping watch over his body and from the sharp, twitchy movements of his fingers Rohjyx could tell he was nervous. Why, Rohjyx wasn't sure. Maybe the kid was new? He certainly looked young. 'Those mafiamen never seem to live very long, though, so being young isn't very much to go on.' Thought Rohjyx mildly, now watching the younger man fidget almost curiously. "Thank you. Let Demarcus know I'll be in touch with him when the job is done." Said Rohjyx, deciding to take pity on the man. He nodded quickly and left, fingers twitching all the way.
Dropping the file onto the table, Rohjyx grabbed another set of sheets and began reading, most of his attention focused on the small black words. A part of him, the assassin part of him, kept a close watch of his surroundings though. The common sounds and scents were noted and anything unexpected or unusual would be immediately flagged. Maybe it wouldn't get Rohjyxs' immediate attention, but it would consciously be noted by the man.
Unfortunately for him-and fortunately for her-, he was so used to Tabris now that the sound of her footsteps was considered common and therefore not brought to the forefront of his mind.

Isis looked around, stepping carefully though the door, of Rohjyx's house. It was a nice place, large and roomy. Tall too; a nice two stories. She looked around, seeing if anyone else was in the house, ready to set an ambuscade against her. When Isis saw none, she helped herself to the door, surprised that it was open and unlocked. There were several other members of the Assassins sitting around the bottom floor, waiting. One of them beckoned Isis over to sit with them. Isis smiled sourly and shook her head.
Footsteps creaked from near the staircase, in a fast paced rhythm. There was a rather clamorous THUMP before another measure of creaking. Curious, Isis began to start up the stairs, but one of the sitting members quickly grabbed her arm and hissed, "Stay down here! Rohjyx won't like it if you barged into his room like that!"
|
[/b] Isis just looked at him, before tearing her arm away from his grip. Shaking her head, Isis brushed a stray strand of hair before answering, "Don't worry! Me and Rohjyx are tight. Best buds." The man looked a bit confused before returning back to his seat while shaking his head. Taking the gesture as a sign of surrender, Isis dashed upstairs, towards the source of the commotion. When she arrived upstairs, Isis realized that the noise wasn't from the upper level, but it was DOWNSTAIRS. Isis face palmed herself, before turning around and running back the stairs, and once again, followed the source of the noise. She found out it was by the staircase, and helped herself to study the door. It was open, surprisingly, but she didn't want to barge in so bluntly. No, it was an art to hide and eavesdrop. Isis slipped across the door, her ear pressed near the open door, hanging on every word. "Kitty's got his guard down." Huh, that voice sounds... familiar, but not really. It was like a very hazy memory in Isis's mind. Peering in ever so slightly, she spotted a girl, giggling to herself at the side of a man in a chair. Probably Rohjyx. "Kitty? Who the hell is she talking about?"[/i][/color] Isis thought. She peered over the doorway again, but accidentally lost her balance and fell down on the floor, face flat. "Ow, that hurts,"[/b] she muttered before getting up and straightening herself out. "So, what is happening here, Boss?" Isis said, pretending that nothing had happened. Blah. Blah. Blah.
Rohjyx hated paperwork. Absolutely despised it. It was easily the bane of his existence and that was saying a lot, considering Rohjyxs' position and career choice. Really, as fun as being a well-reputed assassin -as well as the Leader of the Assassins- was, it wasn't the safest job. Rohjyx constantly had people after him, just dying -literally dying- for a chance to get close enough to attack him. Of course, none of them were ever good enough to even get past the Assassins he set up to watch for them so he didn't really have much to worry about on that front.
As boring as the work was, however, he knew he had to do it, and he had to do it well. Not only was his safety at stake if he made a mistake, but his entire Guild would be in trouble if he did even a single thing wrong. And while he might not have been the nicest man, it was always well known amongst his Guild that he did care about them. If they had a legitimate problem they could always ask him for help and he'd gladly give it to them.
His ears picked up the sound of a slight commotion going on in the hallway, Rohjyx recognizing the voices of two of his assassins. Isis and Jake. "Don't worry! Me and Rohjyx are tight. Best buds." Isis was saying, Rohjyx raising a brow in surprise. Best buds, huh? If he recalled correctly, Rohjyx had never said anything about them being close friends at all. He'd have to correct her later; work was calling.
Caught up in his work as he was, Rohjyx didn't realize until too late that someone had invaded his personal space. "Kitty has his guard down." Purred Tabris slyly, jerking his chair back hard enough to bring a few of the front wheels off the ground. Automatically, Rohjyxs' hand went to his gun while his feet hooked onto the legs of the table, catching him and pulling him back down.
For a second, all Rohjyx could do was stare at his paperwork. Then, slowly, he released his gun and looked over at Tabris with a tired but amused expression. "It's not that my guard is down, dear Tab, but that you give me no reason to react normally." Reaching out calmly, Rohjyx grasped Tabris' wrist and pulled her towards him with a quick tug. His other arm went around her waist, holding her in place, while Rohjyx turned his chair towards her and leaned against her, his cheek pressing into her belly. "I'm tired as fuck right now so don't move just yet." He murmured, eyes closed and face relaxed.
The sudden sound of a body crashing into the floor, along with a feminine, "Ow, that hurts," forced Rohjyx to open his eyes and glare balefully at the girl on the floor. She sat up quickly, dusting herself off and addressing him. "So, what is happening here, Boss?" She asked, Rohjyx biting back a sigh and squeezing Tabris a little tighter before releasing her and sitting back in his chair again. "There was a meeting between myself and some higher members of our Guild a few minutes ago. Nothing you need to concern yourself with." He said coolly, the exhaustion he felt not visible to anyone except maybe Tabris.
Rohjyx let his eyes flicker over to the other panther Shifter briefly, taking in the lithe figure that he knew oh so well. Really, Tabris had an amazing figure. And it didn't hurt that her personality was one that Rohjyx could get along with easily. Tabris was an excellent girlfriend, Rohjyx decided, eyes masking the affection easily as they turned back to Isis.
"Also, Isis, if you're going to say that we're best buds, make sure Roscoe, Tabris, or myself are not around to call your bluff. Do not mistake my caring for my Guild members as us being 'best buds'." Said the man calmly, looking for all the world as if he owned the place.
Technically, he did.

There was a meeting between myself and some higher members of our Guild a few minutes ago. Nothing you need to concern yourself with."

[/b] Isis winced. She had always had thought of herself, of a member in high prestige, but hearing Rohjyx's words, Isis changed her thoughts. For a brief moment, "Also, Isis, if you're going to say that we're best buds, make sure Roscoe, Tabris, or myself are not around to call your bluff. Do not mistake my caring for my Guild members as us being 'best buds'."[/b] Isis coughed loudly. She cleared her throat several times, her cheeks flushed with red. "Well, Boss. That was ah, lie to... cover up my curiosity?" She said, a bit meekly, though that was highly unlike her. Maybe it was because of the intimidation Rohjyx always oppressed on her. Isis's attention was soon shifted towards that girl she had seen earlier. Maybe it was her, who had made such a ruckus! The girl scoffed before chuckling, "'Best buds'? What a laugh."Laughing sarcastically, Isis smiled sourly at her. Tabris's icy blue eyes were focused on her, as if she disapproved of her. Which seemed to be just what she was actually doing, maybe. Isis glared at her, her own green eyes full of contempt. She twitched her head slightly, before turning it full away. Isis watched in an apathetic gaze, as Tabris moved to sit on Rohjyx's desk, carefully to shift the papers aside, so she wouldn't disturb anything. Snatching one of his hands, Tabris, yet once again, fixed her cold stare on Isis. Isis snorted. "Like sh thinks I care," she thought. The stare did give her a little discomfort, though. It was all too serious. "So... what's the relationship between you two......lovebirds?" Isis asked, hoping to shift the silence. The lovebird part was to see if Rohjyx would maim her, in defense that nothing was going on between him and Tabris. She slowly backed away from him, a little bit, in case he was to shoot her with a shining bullet. OOC: I am SOOOOOO out of muse right now. Face still pressed against Tabris' belly, Rohjyx could happily admit to being happy and comfortable. Well, he could admit it to Tabris and himself. Maybe Roscoe. Of course, with how Roscoe was he wouldn't have to say anything. The Dobie Shifter would just know. Observant shit.
Tabris' arms curled around him, returning the hug he was giving her and just making Rohjyx feel a little bit better. A little less tired. "Provided you don't fall asleep, Kitty, because if you lean forward and fall off your chair I won't catch you in time." Chuckled Tabris in response to Rohjyxs' mumbled order to stay still. Rohjyx scoffed softly but made no motion to move away just yet. "Considering how I'll fall on you if I fall asleep, I don't think you'll let me hit the floor." He replied, a slightly smug tone coloring his voice.
As Isis fell into the room and he removed himself from his girlfriend, however, the full feeling of exhaustion returned. It wasn't shown visibly but Tabris would know, if only because he had told her how tired he was.
"Well, Boss. That was ah, lie to... cover up my curiosity?" Was Isis' sheepish reply, Rohjyx fixing the girl with a blank stare and raising a brow slowly. Really. To cover up her curiosity, hm? Curiosity about what? "Curiosity about what, pray tell?" He asked smoothly, noticing the disdainful look Tabris was giving Isis. She looked annoyed, bothered. By what, Rohjyx had an idea but wasn't about to ask. That would just be a waste of breath and time, after all.
"'Best buds'? What a laugh." Scoffed Tabris scornfully, Rohjyx just barely keeping his snort of amusement and grin from appearing. As Tabris moved to sit on the table and take his hand, however, Rohjyx allowed a slight smirk to appear and intertwined their fingers calmly.
Tabris was eying Isis with contempt, a look Isis returned wholeheartedly. Rohjyx automatically felt a twinge of irritation in his chest, his smirk turning into a slight frown. Mild scowl on his face now, Rohjyx locked his eyes onto Isis' as she spoke, possibly trying to lighten the mood.
"So... what's the relationship between you two......lovebirds?" Said the younger girl, Rohjyxs' scowl darkening at the last word. Lovebirds? What an irritating little word. Scowl set firmly in place now, Rohjyx responded to Isis with a quiet growl in his voice. "Tabris is my girlfriend. She gets just as much respect as I do. Am I understood?" His tone and words left no room for argument, nor did the cold look in his eyes.
While he would do nothing physically against Isis, there was nothing stopping him for verbally beating her. He'd only say as much as he felt was needed, of course, but he had a feeling that he wouldn't really need to say anything more. Isis may have been cocky, but even she knew not to bark up Rohjyxs' tree. He thought she did, at least.

"And then I would be pinned under you and goodness knows where my mind would wander." Whispered Tabris, Rohjyx snorting with amusement. Normally he'd play along with her and toss some mildly perverted joke back at her. Normally he wasn't so tired, though. Still hugging the woman, Rohjyx replied, "Maybe in a few hours. After I get some sleep I'll be ready for just about anywhere your mind can go."
As Isis burst into the room and words were exchanged, Isis giving her excuse for claiming to be good friends with Rohjyx, the Leader of the Assassins couldn't help but notice how protective Tabris was getting. Were anyone else [minus Anne, of course] to get so protective of him, Rohjyx would be annoyed past his wits.
But Tabris was different, and as such his reactions to her actions were different. In place of annoyance Rohjyx felt mild pride and warm affection. Instead of losing his wits with anger, he was more liable to losing them to longing and desire for the white panther Shifter close to him. He barely heard Tabris release a sneering, "Sticking your nose in places where it doesn't exactly belong means your liable to get bitten." and he didn't even bother to listen for Isis' response.
As he clearly informed Isis of her almost grave mistake of disrespected her leader's girlfriend, Rohjyx noticed how Tabris seemed to suddenly become much more confident. What, had she not known that being his girlfriend would give her benefits within the Guild? He had figured it was obvious; that was why he hadn't told her. Oh, well. She knew now, as was apparent by the sinister smirk on her face. Tired as he was, Rohjyx still felt a quick twinge of desire for his girlfriend. Ah, how he adored that look on her...
Of course, Rohjyx snapped out of his thoughts as Tabris moved smoothly from where she was sitting on the table to his lap, giving him an innocent little smile before leaning against his chest. Leaning back in his own chair and enjoying Tabris' weight on him, Rohjyx moved his arm so that it wrapped around her waist but kept their hands connected. "I'm sorry," Began Tabris, looking downright evil. "I don't believe I know you. If you're going to barge in and stumble around like a fool in a place you shouldn't even be, you could at least have the courtesy to tell me your name." Tabris could be harsh. That was another thing Rohjyx adored about the woman. She wasn't scared to say what she thought even if it was blunt and harsh.
Isis, fuming now, spat out a hateful, "Isis!" in a strained voice before stomping out of the family room, leaving Rohjyx and his girlfriend to themselves. Normally, that wasn't a good idea. But as tired as Rohjyx was, he wasn't in the mood to have sex. He'd be happy to just curl up in his bed with Tabris and sleep, Later, after he had recuperated, they could have their fun. Until then, though? Relaxation, and maybe a bath, was all Rohjyx wanted.
Letting his head fall back against his chair, Rohjyx closed his eyes for a few seconds, an amused little smirk on his lips. "You know, Tabris," he started, lips barely moving but words coming out clear enough. "I think I'll just call you from now on if I want someone to leave me alone. You're pretty good at making people leave." Hugging the woman tighter to himself, Rohjyx let his head drop down so that he could smirk at her. He probably looked as tired and sleepy as he felt right now. He wasn't trying to hide it; there was no need to when it was just him and Tabris. Were anyone else to come in, however, the ice-eyed man would instantly block off his lax expression and immediately adopt his typically bored but serious expression.

"Oh, if you're too tired to put out, don't worry about it." Giggled Tabris, Rohjyx managing a small smile at the sound. “I’m more than happy to wait…” She added, Rohjyx snorting and smirking up at her. Tabris? Wait? There’s a first. “Glad to know I only need to be exhausted in order for you to wait for a bit. Sex fiend.” He responded, low voice teasing and amused. Tired as he was, he couldn’t resist an easy tease like that.
“I think she doesn't like me.” Said Tabris with a giggle, both panthers watching Isis as she stormed out of the house and slammed the door shut. Rohjyx sighed softly, knowing that Isis’ fit would only bring curious Assassins into the room. Some would be easy to make leave, others not so much. If all else failed, he’d simply give them all a very firm order to leave him alone unless he called on them. "Bet you her little strop is gonna grab more attention." Pouted Tabris, Rohjyx glancing at her for a moment before snorting and burying his face in her shoulder. “If and when it does, I’ll just order them to leave me alone. If that doesn’t work then I’ll just tell them that I’ll shoot them.” He said matter-of-factually, his eyes shut and breathing slow as he cuddled his lover. She was always so warm and soft, something Rohjyx loved about the woman. There weren’t many warm, soft things -or people- in his life so the few that he had he cherished.
"You know, Tabris, I think I'll just call you from now on if I want someone to leave me alone. You're pretty good at making people leave." The reaction Tabris had to his words just made him chuckle, the man clearly amused by her response. Oh, she was persuasive all right. Tabris was extremely persuasive and, honestly, she could probably get Rohjyx to do just about whatever she wanted if she worked at him hard and long enough. “Persuasive is right.” He snickered, lifting his head a little as Tabris curled down against him, her head falling on his chest. He smiled almost gently at the top of her head, placing a light kiss there, before letting his head fall back again.
As on guard as he was, he was too tired and too comfortable to say no when sleep began creeping up on him. Before he knew it, he was fast asleep, his head falling limply to the side and his arms still curled protectively around his girlfriend. Sometimes, just sometimes, life was good.
