HUMAN:Personality:
Matt is tall and lean, standing at about 6'2". Not muscular, and doesn't intend to make the decision to work out any time soon. His black hair flips up in a cowlick, while the rest is a messy arrangement of spikes that fall down his neck. He also sports a soul patch on his chin. Matt has dark brown eyes set deep under dark eyebrows and wears black, square-rimmed glasses. Left ear is pierced once in the cartilage, and he has a piercing over his left eyebrow. His face shape is sharp with a thin but square jaw. His shifter tattoo is actually in plain view on the back of his neck, only somewhat hidden by his hairline, but it almost fits in along with the piercing look. If asked about it, he says he got it as a real tattoo. He wears normal clothes that follow the weather, though he does dress in tattered jeans in the summer rather than shorts. Most of his T-shirts advertise bands or logos of some sort.
SHIFTED: In his shifted form, Matt looks just like any ordinary raccoon. The main fur coloring is a neutral gray with tinges of brown. His underbelly is a soft white, and he carries the distinct black markings and features associated with the North American raccoon. His eye mask is more broad than normally found in the species, however.
Upon first impressions, Matt seems like an arrogant jerk. If you try to approach him, he'll possibly offer a few kind words of a normal conversation before quickly becoming tired of it and asking (politely or not so) that you leave him be. His second impressions aren't much better, leaving many thinking that he's a conceited junkie.History:
In reality, Matt isn't too far from those judgments, but it all depends on if you take a pinch of salt with his dose of irritation. The man knows all too well the likelihood that being kind to strangers will earn you an annoying follower more than eighty percent of the time, and so he prefers to make an attempt to protect himself from that fate.
Once you either talk to him enough, or learn not to take his comments quite to personally, his true intentions start to seem a lot less rude. Matt has confidence and considers himself to be quite a leader, even if his guess is far from off in certain situations. If told so, he'll simply brush it off and bring his good humor elsewhere. He's a real joker and doesn't like to have to take things seriously unless he wanted to in the first place. He has a problem with people who try to tell him how to act.
"Fourth impression" doesn't quite exist, but if it did, it would be the level at which you're his friend. Going from 'acquaintance' to 'friend' isn't an unnoticeable change: you'll know when you've broken through his icy surface. Mainly, Matt will stop with the rude remarks and treat every sentence you say importantly. He's no longer a sleazy coffee-addict, although the confidence thing will stick around near-eternally. Matt's trustworthy and loyal to anyone who's put up with him this far, and will occasionally slow random acts of uncharacteristic kindness.
Matt has a strong love for music, ranging from heavy metal scream-o bands, to piano arrangements that he's composed himself. His soft spot for music contrasts with his outgoing fiery personality, and many people feel like he'd be embarrassed to talk about it. They're quite wrong: Matt loves his music, and loves to play for others. He spends a lot of time sitting at the piano, picking out pieces by ear that he pulls together from his head. Most of the arrangements are soft, passionate chords, inflected with dramatic flares and melancholic falls. Occasionally he'll have a swing at the drums, but he finds that after playing for too long, his ever-constant headache starts to grow stronger. Matt attributes his incessant migraine to a mix between sleep deprivation, and the caffeine addiction that he uses to fight off his tiredness.
Matt's parents obviously did not know how to raise a kid when Matt was born. Between the ages of three and thirteen, Matt was as spoiled as a kid with financially-unstable parents could be. He wasn't the stereotypical snobby-rich-kid that the word 'spoiled' is associated with, though. In fact, he didn't have many items of monetary value. He was spoiled in the sense that he had free reign over his actions. Completed homework was nonexistent, his grades were usually never above a C+, and his parents did nothing to stop his cocky attitude.Sample:
This all changed when he got to high school.
Within the first semester of freshman year, Matt admitted to himself, rather unwillingly, that his habits needed a reform. In high school, his personality was getting him nowhere good, and after coming home once with a broken nose, he decided to do something about it. He figured that finding a hobby might help him start fresh, so he signed up for a variety of electives, including intro to piano. He found his skill in this class and was soon moved up to the higher-level piano classes. With his new-found excitement, he vented his frustrations less at other people, and began to rebond with his relieved parents. His grades slowly but surely improved, and he retained a steady 3.50 and higher by halfway through sophomore year.
He started to slip again once he graduated high school and moved on to college. He picked up the habit of underage drinking, and started to change his outlook on his studies. He barely managed to keep his head clear enough to see what it was doing to him and to realize that his future was at stake, and finally quit his alcohol addiction, switching over to coffee as a substitute. At the age of 20, he decided he wasn't happy with where he was, and moved to Shelpey Alley in hopes of finding a new start. His coffee addiction stayed with him, and he spends a good deal of time at a table in Shelpey's cafe, sipping on a cupfull.
Matt went to the cafe and opened the door with his hand. Then closed it. hi he said to the person behind the counter, who was his friend named Scruffy which was actually his name! matt orders a coffee since he loves coffee and sits down in a chair and he drinks the coffeeOther:
I roleplay well.
Matt's best friend in Shelpey would be Scruffy.
