She grinned, nodding along with his explanation of how they were on the top of Shelpey Alley. As Danny smiled, a cool breeze swept passed them, unseasonably chilly. Lynn shook the draft, twitching her shoulders slightly. She looked ahead of them, noting that they were indeed walking up hill, and also that she had never ventured in this direction.
Her ears turned a shade of light pink as Danny laughed at her joke, she enjoyed making people happy. As Danny stopped mid sentence Lynn’s mouth opened barely a centimetre, he had flawlessly snagged her undying curiosity. “Head to the what?” Her smile faded ever so slightly, is he being serious? Although she wasn’t really looking for any trouble, she felt the need to investigate regardless. Without realising it, Danny had found her weak point.

"Nevermind," said Danny, waving his hand dismissively. "I shouldn't have mentioned it. I don't want you going off and getting hurt." He was fully aware that every word he continued to say about the subject further piqued Lynn's curiousity. Too bad I'm not going to tell her.
"So, what brings you to Shelpey Alley?" he asked, trying to change the subject. The wind blew again, cutting through his jacket and twirling his ribbon gracefully. He shivered; why on Earth was it so cold? It wasn't supposed to be! His smile turned irritated. He hated it when he couldn't plan for something. Oh well, not like I can change it, he thought grudgingly.

Lynn chewed on her lip angrily as Danny tried to dismiss her. It doesn’t work like that! He can’t just bring up something and then shoo it away, saying that it’s too dangerous. Her heart faltered as she gained the mental image of an arm grabbing and pulling at her hair, the same feeling tugging her urge to investigate. Her eyebrows met, creasing her smooth forehead.
“Hey, don’t try and change the subject.” Her green eyes grew fierce as she stared at Danny. “You can’t just bring up something like that, and then expect me to drop it.” To be spiteful Lynn decided to ignore Danny’s question, it wasn’t one she wanted to answer anyways. And besides, what in a measly city like this could actually harm someone? She gave a weak laugh, trying to ease her tenseness.
“So where is this place?” As she finished her question she covered her mouth lazily, stifling a yawn. At this point she was nothing more than a fish caught on a line. It was almost like a game to her, one that she had played for many years – seeing where each peculiar speculation would lead her.

The angry look in her eyes startled Danny, causing his smile to all but disappear. He glared at her when she spoke harshly; you want to get snippy? Two can play that game. A vengeful smirk appeared on his face.
"I'll bring up a subject and drop it as I please. I can do whatever I want, my friend," he said, his tone sarcastic on the last words. Just as Lynn had ignored his question, he was ignoring hers. "Such as this." With that, he about faced and began walking down that hill. It's a shame she had to be so rude, he thought, I was beginning to really enjoy our walk.
As he continued down the hill, he briefly considered telling her where to find the trouble she seemed to want. The idea was quickly shot down; if she pokes around a bit, she'll find it in no time. I'm not helping her with her stupidity. He knew that he didn't really think of it that way; as angry as he was, he just didn't want to point her towards danger. She would end up getting hurt - or worse - and it would be his fault.

Lynn stopped to watch as Danny turned and began walking down the hill, his sarcasm had stung. Had her actions really disserved such response, had she been just as rude? The little bit of pride she owned held her from following him. She dug her teeth into her lip harder; a frown reigning on her face, and her eyebrows parted but didn’t completely straighten. “Child.” The single word escaped her lips, mixed into a sigh, she was unsure if it was loud enough to meet Danny’s ears. I’m not going to let him jerk me around like this, if he wants to leave I’m not going to stop him.
Anger had clouded her curious edge, she felt fairly aggressive, which was rare for her. “And don’t pretend like you care about me. None of this ‘I don’t want you going off and getting hurt,’ trash.” Her hand formed a fist at her side, the skin on her knuckles quickly turning white.
“Don’t get so bent out of shape, this isn’t exactly what I would call a dangerous place, anyways. It’s not like there are rabid dogs running around.” Her frown loosened as she attempted to regain a passive look. She would leave the final decision to him, if he wanted to continue walking, or remain on his path down the slope.

Danny tried to ignore Lynn, to just walk away peacefully, but her next words needled past his resolve and straight into his temper. He suddenly turned around, an icy glare and vicious smirk waiting for his previous companion. "For your information," he said angrily, eyes flashing, "I'm NOT pretending to care. I DO care, for what reason I don't know. The fact that I still give a damn about your safety astounds me." While he was saying this, he had walked back up the hill. Now he was face-to-face with Lynn once more.
"And this isn't what you'd call a dangerous place?" he continued. The cold look stayed intact. "You haven't been around long enough to judge. Believe me, this place can be very, VERY hazardous." Memories of his previous actions flitted through his mind as he hissed out the words. She has no idea. She hasn't been to the areas where you can meet murderers (besides me) and rapists and thieves. Her ignorance pisses me off!
...if I'm so angry, why do I care what happens to her?

Lynn stopped breathing as Danny came to stand in front of her, anger seemingly pouring from him. As his words thundered into her head she remained silent, she felt as if she was a child being scolded. I guess I’m the child now. Her shoulder slouched and her face softened, not necessarily friendly, but definitely not hostile. Her expression struck a certain distant gloom, perhaps disgrace. Her vision lowered to the ground and she soaked in his words.
Why was he so worried about her? It made her feel horrible, she had been fighting with him seconds ago over the fact that he didn’t want her to get into any trouble. He’s right, I haven’t been here long. Maybe I shouldn’t be so stupid. Reluctantly she removed the grip on her bottom lip, tasting blood on tongue. To be honest, Lynn had no idea what to say to Danny. She was glad that he had walked back up the hill, even if it was to tell her off.
What kind of person is he to know of all of this ‘danger’ lurking around? Lynn’s eyes rose steadily from the ground, meeting Danny’s for a second before letting herself drift off again. Her prior rage had left her worn out and flushed. “You’re very odd, Danny,” Her words were very soft, almost inaudible. “But aren’t we all?”

Danny paused after his outburst, hoping that Lynn would grasp the gravity of his rage. Instead, she simply whispered, "You’re very odd, Danny. But aren’t we all?”
Instantly, his rage dissipated. Now that he was actually looking at her instead of glaring, he could see her dishonored expression and - was that blood on her lip?! The remnants of his conscience nagged at him, and he actually felt guilty. She probably wouldn't be like this if I had kept my temper...
"I didn't mean to yell at you," he said finally, voice calm and somewhat remorseful. "I just got angry. I won't do it again."

She shrugged as Danny spoke, his voice peaceful. She didn’t want him to feel bad. Lynn just wanted their conversation to move on, away from the previous fight. “I feel like I’ve known you longer.” Looking at him thoughtfully, Lynn shrugged loosely. Tongue itching to ask where they would go now, but she clamped her mouth shut, not wanting to disrupt the momentary peace. After all, Danny might decide to leave.
His last words danced in her head, “I won’t do it again.” Watching him gently, she tried to decide on whether she believed him. “I started it, don’t worry about it.” She wearily laughed for a second, the feeling of laughter awkward against her ribs. Barely minutes ago she had wanted to harm Danny, and now she was very glad that she didn’t try to. If she had met him with physical violence he no doubt would’ve been less forgiving, but attacking someone like that would be very rare for Lynn.

"I started it, don’t worry about it.” Danny's companion said with a shaky laugh. He then smiled pleasantly at her, glad the conflict was mostly over. "Yeah, but I'm the monkey who followed," he joke. He wanted Lynn to be happy now that they weren't arguing. Why should either of them be troubled by thinking of a resolved issue? It was much more entertaining to let it go.
"By the way, we're heading in the general direction of the docks," the black-haired teen informed his friend. "Would you like to go there, or elsewhere?" Maybe I could show her around, so she doesn't get lost later.
