The situation was getting a little weird and Amber's thoughts were all jumbled up. First there was this girl, and she wasn't even sure why she would be down here. Second was the kiss. That was just... awkward, and she hoped it wouldn't be brought up again. Maybe it would be best to forget about it. Lastly, the hawk. She wasn't sure what it was doing here.
Though Amber was 99% sure it was a shape shifter. I mean, why would a bird be down here anyway? Hawks don't usually live around Shelpey Alley, though she could understand if it were a crow, pigeon, or a seagull as they were natives here. This meant that the bird was a shape shifter, and she was also 99% sure it was Caela. She had been acting weird before, and why did she just suddenly walk back into the dark? No human could see there.
With this in mind, she acted as if the bird were the girl. Then again, there was always that 1% where it could've been something else. According to the statistics, it wasn't likely. Her yellow eyes carefully studied the bird and every little movement it made. It propped itself up and leveled its wings out for balance. The bird's feathers looked dark brown from the dust, but they were dipped a light cream and blood red at the tips which were easily seen.
Amber's careful observation led her to believe that it was mad-another questionable trait for a bird. It stomped in place a few times, ruffled its feathers, and refused to even glance at the two humans a few yards behind it. A couple of feathers unlatched and drifted to the ground, but the girl was sure it wouldn't hinder its flight.
Eventually, it slowly turned toward their direction. It's dark eyes blinked and its cold, uncaring gaze caught onto Alex and Amber. Finally noticing them, it screeched loudly and ended in a few annoyed utters-that is, as much as a bird could utter. The bird's sharp talons clicked against the concrete as it shuffled around to fully face them.
Amber's eye twitched, just the slightest motion. She wasn't sure whether it was the freaked out part of her or the humored part, but she was leaning toward the freaked out part. The hawk looked ready to kill, its feet were even clawing the ground.
Normally she wouldn't be frightened, and she still shouldn't, but even if she shifted, a hawk could easily claw her eyes out. It wouldn't be as likely as she had the brains, but then again, she was talking about a shifter here. But if it was, it would be less likely to hurt here, probably just trying to scare her.
With that, her senses calmed and she flicked her eyes between the hawk and Alex. What would he do? This was a pretty unusual situation, but if she were alone she probably would've just ignored the bird and go one with whatever she would've been doing. Since the older boy was here though... she wasn't quiet as sure. Would he want to talk to the shifter? Ignore it?

Alex regarded the bird, his own gaze not nearly as daunting as the one that glared back at him hostily. The Thief crossed his arms and tapped a foot in a gesture of impatience as he and Amber had a stare-off match with the hawk. Alex, however, was terrible at such games requiring patience, and soon lost his desire to continue.
"You know, it's kind of obvious that you're not a natural hawk," he called out, tilting his head and grinning apologetically, as if he were informing the bird that he had eaten the last cookie from the jar. Oops. My bad, sorry.
Talking to a bird. He mentally laughed at his actions, but knew that there was a method to his madness. If it actually WAS a real bird, it wouldn't be able to understand him, and he'd only have Amber to explain to. And she wouldn't think he was crazy if he told her that he was simply 'testing' the hawk. On the other hand, and the one he was quite certain of, if this WAS a shapeshifter, then they -she- would understand him and know that he wasn't convinced.
But who said that the hawk shifter was trying to fool them? Alex once more locked eyes with the bird and decided that the hawk wasn't overly-dramatizing trying to act natural. No...it was a shapeshifter, and it wasn't pleased. Maybe embarrassed, or pissed at Alex and Amber for having been there to witness the crash and fall of the crates. Or both.
Yeah, probably both.
He turned to Amber and gestured to the bird offhandedly. "I don't believe that we have a red-tailed hawk"-he dipped his head in the direction of the hawk, apologizing if he had identified its species wrong-"in the Thieves. Must be an Assassin or a loner."

"You know, it's kind of obvious that you're not a natural hawk." Alex commented lightly, it was so much like him though. His head tilted slightly with a seemingly comical grin. Alex always seemed to be calm, although Amber admitted the situation was nearly set up.
She sighed, this was so unexpected-things were getting confusing and slightly out of hand. It was supposed to be a meeting and now her dad would probably kill her for it. Amber pursed her lips in thought.
What to do now? Obviously this bird would not give in, so stubborn. The bird simply nonchalantly shrugged, as much as a bird could that is. Loose feathers fluttered to the ground. No other words were said, but it wasn't like any were needed.
The silence was weird, no one was really sure what to do or what would happen. Was the bird Caela? Was it a shifter? Would it attempt to attack? Would it join a gang? Ask questions? No on knew what would happen.
Once again, Amber side glanced Alex who was momentarily having yet another staring contest with the hawk. Suddenly, Alex turned his head to her. He waved his hand in dismissal, "I don't believe that we have a red-tailed hawk," Alex paused to flick his head in the general direction of the bird of prey, "in the Thieves. Must be an Assassin or a loner."
'I don't believe'? Wasn't he like the leader? He should know who is in the guild or not would he? Maybe he wasn't informed of everything. Amber did recall different shifters having different, and sometimes multiple, jobs. She was just about to reply, when an interrupting screech bounced off the walls.
Amber pouted her lips, can't she finally say one thing without being interrupted? Amber grunted in frustration and yet again sighed. Her eyes flicked faster than a blink of an eye, hardly even seeing the bird, and looked back at Alex ignoring the noise. "There isn't any hawk in the Thieves and from what I heard, none in the Assassins either." She patiently informed him.
((Sorry if I make Amber seem all-knowing, but it's her whole connection with all the shifters, animals, and humans she's known. If you think it's too all-knowing I can take back a little of the information.))

OOC|| It's fine. Alex was pretty certain, so that's why he added that she must be either an assassin or a loner.

Alex nodded to Amber. "Right. Well, moving on from our awkward interruption, I have the most important news to tell you," he declared rather flamboyantly, doing some kind of hand wave motion to accompany his decree. "So first off, sorry about the whole 'kiss-from-nowhere' deal. But, hey, you've gotta do what you've gotta do. But I am wondering if you understood what I was talking about?"
He beamed at his soon-to-be second in command, rather pleased with his clever way of disguising his meaning. Although...well, maybe he'd disguised it TOO well. And that wouldn't be very fun, to be the only one in on the joke.
His mind suddenly trailed back to the hawk that was still present. Ahh, damned bird. Making his whole life so confusing and hard and riddled with coded messages. Shoo.

Alex pointedly bobbed his head, "Right. Well, moving on from our awkward interruption, I have the most important news to tell you." Amber pulled her head back in shock and confusion, mostly confusion. What would Alex have to tell her? She cocked one eyebrow in confusion, did she do something bad? Hopefully she didn't, but she couldn't even think of what she might have done.
He didn't seem to notice the motion though and simply waved her off. "So first off, sorry about the whole 'kiss-from-nowhere deal. But, hey, you've gotta do what you've gotta do. But I am wondering if you understood what I was talking about?" Oh, so that's what he wanted to know! Amber huffed a sigh of relief, good then.
Amber was tempted to nod, but the bird caught her eye for a moment. It flapped its wings as if trying to gain attention, except it actually flew off. The shifter didn't actually leave though, but instead landed on some nearby boxes. The funny, or not funny depending how you saw the situation, was that she didn't actually hit anything this time.
Amber turned back to the teen and sighed, but answered his question. "Yeah, well, I think I did at least." Amber was nearly sure she got it, though with the other shifter here, she couldn't say anything outright. Their only options were to either chase it off, which Amber knew for a fact they wouldn't do, wait patiently which she didn't think Alex had much of, or just leave. If by luck, maybe the hawk would show itself, the little coward.
((Eh, I'm out of muse right now so it's not the best.))

Alex sighed and rubbed his temples, casting the bird a pissed-off glance. What did he have to do to just get a few minutes alone with Amber? This was a matter that really couldn't wait all that long. If she was to become his Second In Command, then she should be informed of this as soon as possible.
The teen turned slightly to face the hawk and pursed his lower lip, regarding it with a bit of a glare. "Umm, if you don't mind, we're trying to talk here. And if you're interested in what we have to say, at least ask our consent first. And don't hide behind hawk form. If you want to listen in, be brave and do it in your human form. Who knows? Maybe the conversation WILL involve you."
As in, the hawk turns out to be a Shifter, we recruit her into the Thieves, and she'll be the first to hear the good news for Amber.
"Amber, it kind of IS important for you to hear this soon, but I guess that the rest of the Thieves will hear it soon enough. So if our guest wants to join up with us, then I suppose it'd be fine enough for her to hear what I've got to say."
Patience is a virtue, Alex, he repeated to himself, then scoffed. Patience, indeed. He was a bit more than pissed off at his having to wait.

Amber cautiously studied Alex as he attempted to calm himself. She could see him casting glares at the bird every now and then, probably thinking something on the same lines she was. Hm, funny how that works. For a moment she just wished he could calm himself down. Amber didn't recognize the bird from the Assassins, maybe it was one of those shifters that just stayed away from the gangs? Maybe they could convince her to join them? It was worth a try.
Amber recalled the day she had met Alex herself. He didn't seem all that bad, though he did seem calmer back then. Tsk tsk. Trying his patients wasn't the best idea. What could her leader have to say that was so important. Amber pretty much guessed that it was, but wasn't gaining another alliance also be important?
She knew there were a lot of unallianced shape shifters lately, and with that the Assassins also might be trying to gain new members. Amber just somehow knew that this ordeal was affecting all the shifters. No one knew what, but something-or someone-was bringing them all here. She would have to mention it to Alex soon.
She brought her full attention back to the situation. "-ask our consent first. And don't hide behind hawk form. If you want to listen in, be brave and do it in your human form. Who knows? Maybe the conversation will involve you." Hm, it was quiet obvious that he was getting annoyed. Though Amber herself was a patient person, the Theives leader certainly wasn't. A sad quality not to have. She dismissed the thought immediately.
When he finished his little 'lecture' he spoke to Amber, "Amber, it kind of is important for you to hear this soon, but I guess that the rest of the Thieves will hear it soon enough. So if our guest wants to join up with us, then I suppose it'd be fine enough for her to hear what I've got to say."
Ah, so it was of utmost importance. She figured. Alex snorted at something, though Amber could probably guess. It definitely wasn't the first time. In her peripheral vision, she could see the bird seeming to stand up straighter. Amber titled her head to see more clearly and raised her eyebrow at the change in posture, yet said nothing. It would surely push Alex over the edge. It was clearly stated that the bird wouldn't move. Hm-cocky.
"Want me to move? Come make me." The hawk cooed in its own language. Hm, oh yeah-cocky. Amber churned the thought in her mind. There were little options now. One, shift and just kill the poor thing. Ah, no. Two, convince the bird of prey to join the Thieves. That's a nice idea. Three, just leave and talk somewhere else. Also a good idea, but Amber figured a new member wouldn't hurt.
She sighed at their apparent staring contest. Amber clicked her tongue to, hopefully, get Alex's attention. She leaned in and whispered just to him, "First of all, calm down. You're too obvious." She sighed just for his benefit, which wasn't really a benefit, but it made Amber laugh in her head. "Two, striking up an argument won't help anything. Lastly, if anything we should try to get her to join. Then you can say whatever you want to say and we get a new member."
Amber rocked back on her heels, waiting for a response. Amber knew Alex was a thoughtful listener when it came to the members of the gang, but at this rate all Amber could even hope was that he listened. She was sure he did, but the real problem was that hawk. One wrong word and some vital information might get out, one wrong move. Amber let out an unneeded sigh. There were few times like this when she wished everything was back to normal just a few months ago.
((Tsk tsk. Making me wait, you guys had this coming.))

Alex rocked on the heels of his feet, shifting his balance delicately back and forth while trying to come to a decision. The bird obviously had no intention to move, and it irked him that she seemed to be doing it just to bother him. Well, it certainly was working, that was for sure. But why would she want to? He hoped she had good reasons, otherwise he wouldn't want someone like that in the Thieves.
He turned his attention slowly back to Amber, clasping his hands behind his back as he listened to what she had to say. "First of all, calm down. You're too obvious." At this, Alex offered her a shrug, indicating that she had a point there. "Two, striking up an argument won't help anything. Lastly, if anything we should try to get her to join. Then you can say whatever you want to say and we get a new member."
"Aah, Amber. Always level-headed and never bothered by nuisance birds. You've got some good qualities, and they've landed you the spot of Second in Command of the Thieves," he raised his eyebrows and smiled at her, bowing forward slightly, hands still clasped behind him. "Congratulations,"
Mentally, Alex's thought process went something like, "AHAHAH PESKY BIRD I IGNORED YOU." However, he did take inviting her to join the Thieves into consideration.

"Aah, Amber. Always level-headed and never bothered by nuisance birds." Amber lightly chuckled at his dark humor. Serious, true, and funny. Of course birds never really bothered her considering her well-checked instincts. Besides, she had grown up by the sea. You couldn't go 10 seconds without seeing some kind of bird. "You've got some good qualities, and they've landed you the spot of Second in Command of the Thieves."
Amber's eyes slightly widened, and her eyebrows shot up in surprise. Second in command? From her point of view, she never really thought about power and the moment he mentioned it she was quiet surprised. Her face stuck as Alex raised his eyebrows and smiled in amusement. He bowed slightly, like always, with his hands clutched together behind his back. "Congratulations." Dutifully calm yet again.
Still, Amber was quiet surprised. Amber never really figured she was calm and level-headed. Her thoughts ran by the few times that she did lose her patients-and they weren't fond ones. The more she really thought about it, the more it made sense. Even after thinking it through, Amber kept wondering why he chose her. She knew there were others in the guild that were much more talented in the fighting-thinking method and along with that-had been in the guild longer.
Amber never really was the kind to blush, but she sure was embarrassed, "Oh... thanks Alex." Her voice was obviously grateful, but she could hear the slight trace of her previous confusion. Although she was grateful for his appreciation she had to know why he chose her. "I'm glad and I promise to do my best, but I still can't help but wonder. Why me? I know there are others that have been in the guild a much longer time."
Amber momentarily side-glanced the bird for a moment, just to make sure it couldn't hear them. She was tilting her head around in circles, looking for something. It didn't sound like the bird was listening, but Amber knew better. Sometimes you can't really tell. The hawk bent down, seeming like it was about to take off. She wasn't sure if she should call out or not, even if her new position allowed it-or whether or not her previous membership did either, but the news was dealt with and the bird didn't even seem to hear it. Maybe she should just leave it to Alex...
