It was the perfect day for a hike. It was a beautiful autumn day, it was roughly around ten in the morning, with a cool breeze that required a fall jacket and perhaps long pants. So today she was wearing jeans, a matching jean jacket and a short sleeved emerald colored shirt. Her hair was down and she carried a small backpack on her. Inside there was a Frisbee, a few water bottles, a small dog bowl, some dog treats, some people treats. And a blanket. In her right front pocket was her cell phone which was currently on vibrate. She didn't want to disturb the wildlife. She had brought her four year old Airdale mix Jude along with her because he was a great, quiet hiking companion as she began to walk out of the generalized picnic area. She liked taking the hiking paths, it was great exercise and she just really enjoyed nature and the fresh, unpolluted air. She ran a hand through her hair as she gently whistled to her dog who has slowed to sniff a tree or something. She didn't want to lose him or anything, especially since this area was usually untouched by regular people. This she could very clearly tell because as she looked to the ground there was no litter and just leaves and dirt. There weren't any large and worrysome creatures out in the woods, maybe wolves or stray dogs. But nothing hugely awful. So she felt no need in being excessively loud to try and scare anything away. She figured that if she left the wildlife alone then they would leave her alone, and perhaps enjoy each other's company at a safe distance apart. She watched as Jude ran up ahead again, disappearing for a moment from her view, but she knew he wouldn't go too far. Or well, at least she hoped. [scrolly:h(315),w(265),sy]»»»»....¤........¤........¤....«««« If Red Tailed Hawks could scream, Dean would have woken up every living creature in a five mile radius. As it was that hawks are pretty much incapable of expressing any emotion, Dean settled for swearing profusely in his head as he flapped like mad as a bear snapped at his tail feathers. Jesus Christ! What the hell is a Fucking BEAR doing in this part of the woods? The bear snapped his jowls nosily in the air behind Dean for an answer. Trees and small bush streaked around Dean as he weaved in and around the underbrush, pumping his wings to get some altitude or distance from the mountain of predator that was thundering seconds behind him. He saw a small sapling branch to his right, getting a very odd and possibly stupid idea. It was something that a real Hawk would have not only not done, but not even considered an option. But Dean wasn't just a Hawk- He was also human. At least in some part. He watched the tiny branch zip to him, and lashed his talons out, gripping the forearm sized piece of tree, flaring his wings out. Like he had guessed (or hoped, take your pick) his forward momentum had been transfered to the branch, transferring his kinetic energy into the branch. Time seemed to slow down as it did. He snapped forward with a rough jerk, tearing some of the smooth bark off. The wind rushed into his almost invisible Hawk ears, and his breath heaved out of his beak. The sudden stop was a strain on his talons and wings, but Dean's gamble worked, the bear (Dean identified it as a Black Bear) rumbled pass. Dean yelled at his back, Yeah! Thats right you big balooka! At that point, time resumed its normally scheduled programming. See, The Law of Conservation of Energy tells us that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transfered. Dean had used the young branch as a sling shot to stop himself without pulling several joints out of socket, letting the springy wood absorb most of his momentum. But he hadn't thought about the other end of the equation. Until now that is. He realized his mistake in time to think: Oh shit. And the branch shot Dean high into the sky, tail over beak. The whole exchange, branch grabbing to launch, took only a few seconds. After reaching the top of his arc, Dean tumbled down to the ground, managing to open his wings just before he skidded to the dirt in a small clearing, slowing his fall enough to not break any bones. But it hurt like hell. It was then that he noticed a dog's nose poking him in the eye. »»»»....¤........¤........¤....«««« I had a lot of fun writing this one : ) [/scrolly] |

She kept walking looking ahead as Jude wandered off. She assumed he'd be right back, but he didn't immediately return. She sighed when she got to where he'd wandered off. "Jude," she called her voice not really all that loud. She waited a few moments, and when he still didn't return she called for him a bit louder. She heard nothing but a gentle whine. "What is it?" she questioned before moving off the trail and into the woods.
Jude had wandered off into the woods after hearing something, and when he found that something he stopped and sniffed it. And realized it was alive and probably hurt and Ava could fix hurt animals. He wasn't a super intelligent animal, the piglet had more brains than him. But besides that fact he looked to the fallen bird and whined gently wondering what was wrong with it. His big, black, wet nose running over the bird sniffing it then his long pink tongue slipped out and licked the bird's face, as if to revive it from its slumber.
Ava sighed as Jude finally came into view. He was a ways off the beaten path.. she tried to remember little markers so she'd be able to find her way back to the path and didn't end up lost. Not that she probably would get that lost since like she often went out into the woods just to enjoy nature and hike and so forth. It was fun being able to enjoy the freshness and beauty of nature rather than being in the city where it was less pretty. So much less pretty. There was only so much man could make that could be considered beautiful. What the earth made, what it produced far outweighed man's beauty. Or at least, that's how she saw it.
"What did you find?" she asked her dog as she neared him and noticed he was really focused on something he had found. She moved over to him and examined the.. the bird.
