Savannah
I saw you yesterday with an old friend it wuz the same old same how have you been since you've been gone my worlds been dark and gray you reminded me of brighter days I hope to be coming home to stay I wuz head of the church I wuz off to drink you away
The can sprang into action again, rattling down the cracked street noisily as it was kicked. The culprit was a young woman, her wavy red hair flowing down past the shoulders of her maroon shirt. She looked pensive, but she didn't have anything special on her mind.
Four of her fingers were tucked into the pockets of her denim jeans, the thumbs hanging casually off to the side. She stared blankly at the can when she slowly caught up to it. Continuing her stroll, she kicked the can again. It sailed even farther. The curb kept the aluminum litter from straying into the yards of the residents. Savannah wasn't living in a house. She made her way be stealing after her mother's house was reposessed shortly after she died.
The young girl had been close to her mother, but never cried about her. It wasn't that she didn't want to, it was simply that she controlled herself enough not to burst into tears. At the moment, she was tempted to shift into her animal form, but the fact that she was unsure about the residents knowing of shapeshifters kept her from it. She remembered when she had learned of shapeshifters. A man had flashed into a crow right before her very eyes. The thought of her being seen changing in public unnerved her, so she refused. A short tinkly tune hung in the air as she whistled to the song running in her head. It sounded like Treador, but had sudden changes that made the selection unclear.
Words: 257 Comments: Could've been longer. :/
I thought about you for a long time can't seem to get you off my mind I cant stand why we’re living like this way I found your picture today I swear I'll change my ways I just called to say I want you to come back home I found your picture today I swear I'll change my ways I just called to say I want you to come back home I just called to say I love you come back home

Today was Ava's day off, and she certainly did need it. Work had been pretty hectic lately. A lot of injuries, possibly from all this gang violence she'd been hearing about. Poor, defenseless animals caught in the crossfire of gang outrage, the very idea sickened her quite a bit. But she didn't like to dwell on those ideas, they just made her sad. And she'd rather be in a more delightful mood since it was her one day to relax, catch up on her laundry, and be with her own animals.
Today, Ava was well medicated, so she wasn't jumping off the walls like the Tasmanian devil in one of those quirky cartoons they use to play on cartoon network. Currently, she had decided to take her Airdale mix who was roughly five years old out for a long walk. He definitely needed it, as he was about as wound up as she usually was unmedicated. Or well, perhaps to a slightly lesser degree. But he was pretty rambunctious right now.
She currently had you on his leash, and he was usually pretty good about not pulling, but today he seemed so excited he just couldn't help it. After about a block though, he had begun to calm down enough for her to be able to trust him enough off the leash, and they had entered the residential area where there were nice houses and such. It usually wasn't that busy with car traffic, so she felt more relaxed to allow him to wander anyways.
Free of the leash Jude strutted forward a bit, stretched and then continued on. On the opposite side of the road a young woman around Ava's age was kicking an aluminum can along the pavement. Unable to resist, the dog dashed across the road and retrieved the can, then returned it to the lady who had kicked it. He sat down before her and set it at her feet. His tail wagged furiously behind him as he waited for her to throw it again.
Ava yelled when the dog took off across the street, and after making sure their was no cars, she ran across the road after him. "I'm so sorry," she admitted to the other girl as she quickly moved over to her. Unsure if the girl liked large dogs to begin with.
