((I'm sorreeeeee. TT_TT I apologize!))
Danny had a short time to consider her words before the box was snatched out of his hands. His smile almost disappeared - he held nothing but contempt for those who took things without permission - but relaxed into an easy smile, willing to forgive Amber. He watched with some amusement as the girl set up the familiar board, putting the scuffed pieces into place. He had already chosen his side; black. He always chose the black pieces, and he had won almost every single time. Scooting a bit closer, Danny made eye contact with his opponent. "So, Amber, I heard you mention a 'return favor'. I'm afraid I don't quite understand." His tone was not one of uncertainty, it was one of curiousity and a strange humor. He could have been, and was probably lying.

As Amber was carefully setting up the pieces, she then thought that maybe he wasn’t as bright as she thought. No, he’s smart I’ll bet. Just curious. After a short argument in her head, she finally just decided to end her thoughts and concentrate on their broken conversation. After he turned the board a quarter turn, she faced her body towards him and crossed her legs. She rested her elbows on her knees, looked into his eyes, and lightheartedly grinned. “I’ve been told I’m a humorous person and quiet frankly you’re not as funny as you look. So in return, I’m going to beat you at checkers.” Amber beamed a smile at him, encouraging him to make his move.
((How are we going to do checkers? It'll take forever to go move by move...))

((We just say 'he moved the checker' or 'she moved the checker' or other stuff.))
Danny grinned, moving his piece forward. "Not funny? My dear Amber, I can be VERY humorous, given the right circumstances." He looked up at her, eyes slightly warmer, but still calculating. The tiny bit of kindness that had entered his expression seemed to show a truer side of him; a loving, caring, friendly person. However, he still remained malicious. "And please don't assume you'll beat me. After all, to assume makes an ass out of you and m-" A rather loud splash and scream suddenly came from the center of the area, causing Danny to jump and turn. The small boy from before had fallen into the fountain, and his dad was clutzily trying to grab the crying child. Water was beating down on the poor kid, and everyone else was either stunned or uninterested, hurrying away. Without a word, Danny leapt up and raced to help.

Although Amber was watching Danny, out of her peripheral vision, she could see him move his piece. For a moment she was sure she could see some warmth in his eyes, but it went as soon as it came. Smiling slightly, Amber moved her piece. When he first came up to her, she knew he could kill on the scene and she was glad to see that people like him still had that warm caring side of them.
Ah, so he thinks I’m assuming? Amber knew a good player when she saw one. He was good, but she was very sure she could beat him. Just as she was about to correct him, an echoing splash and a deafening cry echoed through the park. Amber’s head snapped up and stared wide-eyed past Danny’s head. Somebody’s kid had fallen into the deep fountain in the center of the park. What appeared to be his father was leaning as far as he could, but couldn’t get a grab on him.*
Why doesn’t he just swim in? Thinking fast, Amber glanced around her. Nobody was looking, and Danny had run off to help. Instinctively, Amber shifted her form. She could feel her body getting smaller. The feeling of her spine extending into a tail felt completely normal, and the casualness of her legs becoming lanky and strong made a new surge of confidence build up in her. Luckily from experience, the change didn’t even last 3 seconds and she heard no bloodcurdling screams or shrieks of horror.
Knowingly, her hind legs scrunched up and pushed off the tree for extra power. With all her might, she darted past Danny towards the fountain. Her thoughts raced back to times when she swam in this form; her fishing, trying to catch minnows swimming by, Ink falling into the water. It had been a few days, but she knew if she didn’t act fast the toddler would drown. He was obviously too small to learned to have swim, but he was just small enough for Amber to pull out. Just when Amber reached the ledge, she sprang up on the concrete rim and leaped into the water. Just before she hit the cool liquid, Amber thought what it would look like later on to see a cat soaring into water to save a kid, but the thought passed quickly. It’s life or death for this child, she reminded herself. Her small body oddly caused a large wave ripple through the fluid. Surprisingly, Amber wasn’t affected at all by the water tugging at her fur, but felt strangely calmed. Amber’s legs kicked repeatedly.
The youngster wasn’t too far out, so Amber’s energy was well conserved. When she reached him, she circled around him and dragged her thick tail along his neck trying to get him to grab it. It would hurt, she knew because her tail wouldn’t be there when she changed back, but it was to save him. Unfortunately, the toddler didn’t grab onto her tail, but her back legs. For a split moment she struggled, but she kicked him away, but not enough to hurt him.
Instead, Amber tried a different tactic. The she-cat began paddling towards the outer boundary. This time though, the kid must’ve realized that the feline was leaving, and yanked on her tail. Amber was right, it did hurt, but at least he wasn’t heavy. The cat furiously propelled towards dry land. Because the boy was only a little bit bigger than Amber, she was able to pull him back to shore, but just barely. Consciously, amber knew she had used a lot of her energy, but after that dive, her will pushed her out of the fountain. Once his son was close enough, the father had seized him out of the deepness.
Feeling the loss of weight, Amber lifted herself out and landed on the ground glad to be on sturdy terrain. She may have been part human, but it still felt weird to have your body soaked with water, dragging the weight down, and have only your head dry. Quickly, Amber gave herself a few vigorous shakes, attempting to throw off all the water off her silky fur. After one last shake, she opened her eyes to slits, enjoying the heat of the sun, but looking out for any onlookers.
((I know it's long and everything, but if you want to be the hero, or you don't like it like it is, (like you want to put in a reaction or something...) I can delete all the stuff past the astrics (*)))

Danny ran as fast as he could to the fountain, but a black and white shape streaked past him. The shape jumped up onto the edge of the fountain - it was a cat? - and then dived in! Danny stopped, staring. In the splashing water, he could see the dark animal swimming around the struggling toddler. What on Earth? Cats didn't do that! He looked back over his shoulder for Amber. The girl was nowhere to be seen; she had just left the checkerboard sitting there. He felt a twinge of annoyance at her carelessness (what if someone messed up the pieces?) but ignored it. Turning back around, he found that the small child was being...dragged out of the water? By the cat?! The father of the boy hastily picked his kid up, frantically babbling his gratitude to whatever or whoever had saved his child. Meanwhile, the black and white cat jumped out and started shaking off water. Why wasn't that cat behaving normally? Cats don't save people like that! Suddenly, cold swept through Danny. Maybe that cat wasn't just a cat. Maybe it was actually a person, a person who could shapeshift. He knew others like himself existed; he had almost killed one until they shapeshifted into a mouse and bit him. Could it really be true? A smile krept onto Danny's face. Let's find out. Discreetly, the brown-eyed teen walked over to the drying feline and bent down, offering his hand. "That was a pretty unusual thing you did back there," he said calmly. "Definately strange for your average cat."
((Oh geez. You write a long, stunning, actiony reply, and then I make you wait a day. For this. I am so sorry. *jumps in a lake* ))

Amber’s gaze swept across the small gathering. Her eye caught Danny’s figure walking towards her. A short gust of wind blew through the clearing, stealing the heat out of her fur for a moment. She gave a quick forceful shudder. As Danny kneeled down in front of her, she lifted her head the slightest bit, and perked her ears up, wide-eyes gazing curiously at his smile. Oh no, she thought bitterly to herself. He can’t have… well he could.
Even if he did have an idea, Amber was an expert at being a cat. She gazed at his face, and wondered why he was smiling. Huh? Was it something I did? He really shouldn’t be smiling in that kind of situation. She anxiously flicked the end of her snake-like tail. Why was he coming up to talk to a cat when so many people are staring at him? You’re not supposed to draw attention to me! Why are you doing it anyway?! A tiny whisper in the back of her mind answered her. Yes… well, he wasn’t as smart as you thought.

"Excuse me, mister?" said a voice from behind Danny, causing him to look over his shoulder, "Is that your cat?" Danny simple smiled, and after a moment, answered. "Why, yes, she is," the teen said. "She got scared and ran off when your child screamed." The father (whom had asked the question) looked nervous at the statement. "Yes, well, I just wanted to ask you if it was your cat who saved-" "No. She just accidentally fell in. Didn't you see it?" Some people in the crowd muttered their agreements, and the man became even more nervous. "But...I thought I saw..." "Saw what?" Danny's smile remained glued to his face, his eyes cold and demanding. "...nevermind. Thank you." the father said, finally turning and leaving. The crowd dispersed. Danny sighed, then turned back to the cat. "Manipulating the truth is so easy with people like that..." he muttered softly. "Well, it's about time we go home now, right?" And without warning, he reached out and grabbed the feline, scooping "her" into his coat. Oooh, if this really is Amber, she's going to kill me...hee. That's funny.

((You better hope that's not the real Amber. Maybe I switched them. >.> <.< *Amber gazes confusingly at idiotic human whose making uncontrolable fits of laughter.*))
Amber was almost forgotten and could’ve ran away, but her life seemed to bore her with the usual, fishing, gossiping, watching games at the harbor. It got lonely, and right now, she was craving for action. Her intense honey-colored eyes flickered between the two. Ever so slowly, she blinked. His? It took her a few seconds to think. Did he… his?
As the gears in Amber’s brain tried to process this information, their discussion came to an abrupt end. Before Amber had the chance to even escape her own mind, she was seized and stuffed into his coat. Oh that… that… THAT BOOB. It would be interesting, but this is catnapping! Just out of hearing, Amber quietly sighed. On the outside she was calm, and didn’t want to hurt Danny, but in her mind she was pleading that he would find it in his heart to let her go. Just wait until I get to your backpack.
((Ok, this one is supposed to be funny. It's part of the story, but not meant to be so serious. Amber had a youtube moment, and I had uncontrolable fits of laughter... so yes. Here we are.))

Maybe this ISN'T Amber... Danny thought as he walked over to the checker board. She probably would've torn me apart by now if she was. Carefully holding the cat against his chest with one arm, he began to put away the pieces of the game. Strangely, he seperated the pieces by color in neat, little stacks before placing them in the box. Putting the box into his backpack, he lifted the bag and walked away. "We'll go home now, okay?" he said happily, a large smile on his face. Of course, they weren't really going to his home. Oh no no, that might be risky. He didn't know the full extent of Amber's character, and she might use the knowledge of his house to her advantage. Besides, his parents didn't like animals. Which was ironically funny. Once out of the park, Danny continued down the street, holding "Amber" gently. Have to find a deserted spot... the boy thought, before spying a convenient little back area. "Ah, there we go," he whispered to himself. He silently slipped into the dark, empty space, then put the cat down. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you." His words were soft and gentle, much like his smile, although his eyes sharp and observant. "It's just that I believe that you aren't just a normal house cat. Care to share any information that would support my belief? Your secret will be safe with me..." His smile got a little wider, but that was the only change in his expression.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Sorting by color in stacks? Amber’s eye peered through an open spot between two buttons. A slight pressure on Amber’s ribs caused her to let out a quiet strangled mew. As he started to saunter away, all Amber actually felt was disappointment. Aw man, there goes my new books and my water bottle, she thought sulkily. At a second thought, at least there’s nothing important in there. After being lightly tossed around in a small space, she was wishing the least he could do was walk like her father. Obviously has no pet that he could carry. Moments passed by while all Amber could do was think. Deciding to make herself useful, she took note of every observation she had of him. … Doesn’t seem to have pets. After her train of thought left her, she realized that all she had been doing was repeating what she knew. Not now Amber. Think behind the scene. Just as she was recalling their previous conversations, she was tugged out of her thoughts as she was pulled out of the coat.
Finally! Amber’s excitement was cut short as it dawned on her that they were in the middle of… well someplace she didn’t know. Taking a fleeting look at her surroundings, she found a vague memory. It somewhat looks like the side of the theatre... Her observations stopped as soon as he started speaking. Amber watched him with a wise and thoughtful gaze. So this is serious now is it? His eyes looked cold and watchful, but his words were defiantly true that was sure. He didn’t intend to hurt him, but he did intend to find out the truth. Sorry dude, but I aint’ going there any time soon. Just for convincing, she copied what Ink, her little fuzzy feline friend, used to do.
“Aww, come on Amber!” Ink wailed loudly. “Please help, I’m sure I can smell it.” He was right, there was a can of tuna around here, but she wasn’t ready to tell him that. Her neighbor had thrown it out after Orville had eaten it. That fat cat. “How about this. You find the silver bin it’s in, and then I’ll help.” Ink contemplated all the pros and cons about the deal, but eventually agreed anyway.
So this turned out to be a fake hunt for tuna. Amber convincingly bent her head down and sniffed the ground. While I’m acting, I might as well find out where he took me. As her head scanned the ground, her nose caught a whiff of tuna. You’ve got to be kidding me, she thought. What has this world come to? Acting on her instincts, and still messing with Danny, she slowly stood up and followed the scent. She went about a tail-length ahead when the fragrance collided with others. Popcorn. Pretzel. Coke. Twizzlers. Cheese. In her mind she listed all the aromas she smelled. Her snow-white whiskers twitched a little from all the scents rolling in at once causing her to quietly sneeze.
