Danny's smile grew smaller as he followed the strange cat whom he thought was Amber. Maybe this ISN'T Amber...no. It has to be. There's no other explination as to why she jumped into the fountain. So he continued watching the animal patiently, eyes fixed on every movement. The cat just sniffed at the ground, then seemed to follow a certain scent. She sneezed. Extremely normal cat stuff, aside from the whole not-running-away thing. A normal cat would've have tried to get away from him by now. Danny eventually he lost patience. "I'm afraid you're not fooling me." murmered the raven hair boy, trying to sound confident. In reality, he was bluffing like crazy. (But of course, no one but him had to know that.) "I know you're more than just a pet," he coaxed further, "so why not cut the facade short? If it clears anything up for you, we may have something...in common."

As Amber followed the trail, she heard light footsteps behind her. So he’s going to follow me. After a moments thought, she decided to eat. Let’s see how good you are then. So, it’s going to be a battle to see who get’s who first. Interesting. She raised her small white paw to take another step, but froze mid-way. Uh-hu. No way. He did not… She daintily set her paw on the ground and cocked her head around to glare at him. “I am not, a pet.” Amber firmly stated. Though to him it probably sounded like a meow, only she wouldn't know.
In the back of her mind, Amber knew that she might be answering his question, but if anything, she wasn’t a pet. Acting upon her thoughts, her tail lashed from side to side. After a moment of hesitation, she truly realized what he had said. “… we may have something… in common.” Could he be referring to her abilities? Subconsciously she thought maybe he was talking about how they both were having an… inner battle, but quickly pushed the thought aside.
All the while, he was watching her every move and it became a distraction. Buying some time, she plopped down on the murky ground and snuggled her tail around to make sure he wouldn’t step on it. One, he truly does know about my abilities and possibly can do it himself. Two, he’s bluffing the whole thing and her trick was working. Three, he’s mentally ill. Four, he’s plain stupid. As soon as she thought it, she dismissed the thought. After all that? Checkers, tricks, and saving lives? He wasn’t ill or stupid. Which left one thing. He either did or didn’t know about shape shifting. For the first time since the founding of her powers, she didn’t know what to do.
((This is really off Amber. She's actually stupid and clueless. *watches her try and stick her fat head down a skinny glass of almost empyt milk* .... exhibit A))

For a few seconds, the cat was silent. Then, Danny heard a very distinct statement coming from her: "I am not, a pet.” I knew it! thought the boy, grinning smugly. He didn't say anything right away; she was continuing her cat act. It would've been convincing if he hadn't already heard her. "So, my dear feline friend, I'm going to take a guess at your name," whispered Danny, still grinning, "and since I know you can speak, you'd better answer me. I'll go through three guesses. If I get them all wrong, I'll let you walk away and we'll never speak again." He paused for a few moments to watch her reaction. After all, it was best to get to know her little quirks and expressions. "Here's my first guess...Spots." It sounded like a joke, but it wasn't; from the look in his eyes, he wasn't kidding around. He was playing a game with her, just like before. His grin had gone from smug to somewhat dangerous. "Well, my dear? Am I wrong or right?"

Cutting into her thoughts, Danny finally spoke. As he mentioned her being his friend, a click in her mind reminded her of her little journey over here. As if on cue, her head bent to the side and her leg came up to scratch the kink in her ear muscle. Yes, friends I see, she thought harshly. When she finished, she boredly looked at him. So another game it is. She knew he’d guess it. After their little game of checkers, he was one for brain games.
After his little one-sided deal, he began listing names. Spots. Did… did he just say that? For a moment, no reaction came. She watched his eyes for any emotion, but they were well covered. He’s trying to cover them. So he does know. Amber waited for any side of the joke, but he was obviously trying to be serious. Normally Amber loved any kind of game, but brain games just weren’t her thing and she was losing her patience so she gave up.
Distracted by her hunger, she silently recited, Spots. She wasn’t going to play his game anymore; besides, she had a backpack to get to and a restaurant to stop by. Throwing her head side to side, ruffling her smooth fur, she hissed at him and mocked, “Spots?! That’s all you can think of Danny. That’s humorously depressing.” Her eyes closed in satisfaction, and slowly reopened and chuckled.

Did she just hiss at me...? Danny thought, waiting for her answer. It came shortly after, and Danny couldn't believe how scathing her words were. His eyes then became sharp, and almost murderous, along with his smile. This look was much scarier than his previous expressions, although he STILL didn't stop smiling. The grin still plastered itself onto his face, although it was far from friendly. "Don't patronize me," he hissed back menacingly. Oddly, his left hand twitched as though itching for something to hold. He simple forced it into a fist."And let me finish my game." Sighing, he quickly swiped his right hand through his bangs and smiled a kinder smile. "Alrighty then! It seems I have two guesses left. My next guess would have to be...hm..." He put his finger and thumb on his chin in a fake thinking position, the ridiculous grin still present. "I'm going to go out a limb here and say Oreo."
((He really is horrible at naming pets.))

Although he looked murderous, Amber had learned her lesson. Murderous or not, she was fast, and they were right near a theatre. She was completely confident that he wouldn’t do anything. Danny was starting to annoy her, and she was sure they could both see they were annoying each other. Gaming along with him, Amber narrowed her eyes to deathly slits. Her pupils thinned and her claws slid in and out waiting for something to happen. Her tail lashed to and fro sweeping the ground spotless.
She watched him from a distance, neither daring to move, waiting for the other to show the smallest of flinches. Surely enough, he calmed down, but his fists held tight. Amber thought of nearly every possibility, every outcome, everything and anything that could happen now. If I were to get him mad, he could possibly grab me like last time, but if I put up a fight someone was sure to do something. Endless consequences flashed through her mind, until she finally settled on one.
As much as she was unwilling to admit it, she knew she would be in trouble if she made any wrong move. One of her best qualities Ink once said. Knowing when to give up. There would be no point if they were to fight. Amber tried her best to ignore her frustration. Still looking over him, she flicked her ear in exasperation and coolly replied. “My brother wanted to name me that and thankfully he didn’t.” It wasn’t straightforward, but it answered his question. Furthermore, not as to seem so intimidating, she lied down on her side, belly facing the teen. The universal sign in cat language that you’re confident and unafraid. Not that she full expected him to understand that.
((My brother really did want to name Amber that at first. Then he wanted to name her Penguin. Finally I just suggested Amber for her amber colored eyes. xD)

Danny noticed the threatening behaviour coming from Amber, but he wasn't concerned. It was only natural, after all, to try to defend yourself after a display like his. Remember not to lose your temper, Danny. She might run away. "Your brother wanted to name you Oreo? Interesting," he said nicely, his grin fake but pleasant. "Oh well...one guess left. I guess I had better get it right this time." He paced around slowly in a circle, pretending to think. What exactly would happen when Danny revealed what he knew? Would she run? Would she attack? Or would she stay and talk about it? That last option certainly didn't seem likely. Sighing, Danny stopped pacing and turned to the cat, hands on hips. "Well, I really am certain I have the answer," he laughed. "Here is my last guess..." Should he lie? It would certainly make the game so much more interesting...but he couldn't lie. He just couldn't. That would be giving up, and he couldn't do that either...so it was time to answer. "My final guess is that your name is actually Amber, my dear friend."

Amber’s somewhat stiff posture relaxed and waited for him to answer. Yes, my dumb brother wanted to name me that, which is why he ended up in the hospital, Amber wanted to say, but her mouth was clamped shut. “Yes, and he was stupid to even suggest it.” Her breathing stayed calm and controlled. Her stare followed Danny even as he strolled in a circle.
He was pretending, she knew that, but she just watched him. Although he had shown signs of hostility, Amber didn’t do anything about it. She knew that he knows that if she ran off, he wouldn’t be able to catch her again. It would be as if she never met him, except only in their memories. By now, she was almost 100% positive he was also a shifter, but it left the 1% that he just knew about them. Like my family, she silently added.
Lazily, she closed her eyes as he sighed. It looked like she was asleep, but she was watching soundlessly like almost every other cat. “Well, I really am certain I have the answer.” Laughing. Really now? I never would’ve guessed. Sighing, she waited patiently for him to continue. Amber. He finally guessed right. “Took you long enough.” She murmured as she soundlessly let a large yawn escape. On another quiet notion, she added, “Friends now are we?” She gazed at him with all emotions hidden.

Danny felt a little miffed at her nonchalant reaction. Shouldn't she be at least a LITTLE surprised? Even a teeny bit? She should at least be interested in how he could guess she was a shapeshifter. Danny just smiled when she spoke again. "Friends, hm?" he said inquisitively. "We could be friends. Or maybe I was lying when I said tha-" Wait. Lying? For the first time that day, Danny's smile disappeared. It was replaced by a look of terror and anger, and he clenched his left hand so hard, it left tiny cuts. He even started to shake. He wasn't lying, no. He considered Amber a friend, right? They almost played checkers. That counts...point is, he wasn't lying... After a few seconds of panic, Danny smiled weakly. "Yes, we're friends." His tone wasn't anywhere near confident or menacing, and he mentally winced at the sound of his own voice. She probably thinks you're crazy now...hee! I'm very funny today for some reason. His thoughts helped calm him down from the episode.

Amber could see the surprised flash across his features. He was actually surprised that I knew? Amber knew not to cross thoughts of being stupid anymore. It was a pointless idea and far from false. We just think differently, have different lives, Amber reassured herself. As soon as he started chattering again, he came to an abrupt halt. For the first time since Amber met Danny, he stopped smiling. Even when he had picked her up to carry her, he still smiled, even throughout anger. But one question left him angry, and what might even be interpreted as fright. His left hand was clasped so tight it could’ve bled any moment. Trembles started racketing throughout his body, and Amber started to get worried. Quick as a cheetah, she was up on her feet again watching him closely. His response didn’t affect Amber as much as it might have. She heard, but she wasn’t paying attention. His tone of voice for once actually sounded… unlike him. He was really trying to be friendly without trying to fake it. After he slowed down to a calmer condition, Amber sat on her haunches and surveyed his situation. Soon enough, she was sure he was ok, and nodded. “Friends then.” After the short episode, all anger and worry gone, she actually laughed to herself. It was shaky, but it had made her eyes gleam with amusement.
