Danny stood with his back to Amber out of politeness, although he didn't really see why it was important. Who cares if someone saw you unclothed? He didn't understand the allure of it that everyone else did.
When he heard his friend emerging from the other side, he turned to her with a neutral smile. "Lovely outfit," he complimented. Again, when he saw her tying up her hair, the thought of what it would look like in red arose. Why do I keep thinking about that? It's quite an odd thing to spend your time on. Oh well. He dismissed the thought and smiled at Amber. "Well then, shall we be going, m'lady?" he said, faking a bow once more. His indifferent smile turned into a silly grin, although his eyes retained the apathetic look.

As Amber rounded the thick tree, Danny turned around with a small smile. When he complimented her, she smiled and mumbled a quiet thanks. When she walked closer, he faked a lighthearted bow and grinned. Naturally, Amber grinned a full set of teeth back. In response, she lightly grabbed his hand and started tugging him along in the general direction of the harbor. With her free hand she pointed straight ahead and mocked, “To…! The harbor!”
((Oh geez. The first time I actually only write 1 paragraph! *gasp*))

((Well, that one paragraph made me feel not so mediocre. All your other posts whoop my posts' butts.)) Danny felt her grab his hand and mentally winced - he didn't like being suddenly touched. However, Amber's joking attitude was infectious, and he smiled back. "Of course, m'lady!" he said jubilantly, grinning ridiculously. "We shall embark on our adventure!" 'Embarking' consisted of exiting the desolate park, then navigating throught the throng of shops that decorated the town center. People were still shopping of course, so the streets were amazingly uncrowded. Danny had freed his hand of Amber and now followed behind, eyes watching her carefully.

As they reached the main streets, a few children passed by greeting Amber, but kept walking along. The silence wasn’t awkward, but it wasn’t exactly completely comfortable either. Once they rounded the corner though, the street lamps still lit brightly, and Amber could see the streets were still slightly crowded. Games with flashing lights lit up the area and kids ran around. At least it won’t be so bad anymore. Snapping out of her thoughts, Amber slowed to a stop in front of a large restaurant named ‘Captain Steve’s”.
Shrugging Amber stated the obvious, “Well, this is it. The name’s cheesy, but the food is great.” Smiling slightly, she turned towards him, but was stopped when a small gloomy black cat rubbed his side against her leg. Picking him up carefully, she rubbed his temples just like he likes it. Now creating a thunderous purr, she smiled sheepishly at Danny and said, “Sorry… this is Ink. He’s actually our neighbors cat, but he comes here a lot.” Knowingly, she leaned in and whispered, “Supposedly I’m a better owner than his own. Though he’s probably looking for ‘Amber’” Stepping back, she let out a teasing snicker.

Danny looked up at the restaurant's front with a skeptical look. He looked back at Amber and the cat sitting in her arms, raising an eyebrow. There were two possibilites; this 'Ink' was actually a shapeshifter, or he was just a normal cat that Amber could communicate with while shifted. Either way, Amber trusted the cat, and he obviously trusted Amber back. It was safe. And even if it wasn't, it's not like I can't hold my own. Smiling, Danny offered his hand to Ink, then pulled it away. "I'm sorry, I forgot to ask if cats actually like that," he said, looking up at Amber. "I generally don't desire the company of felines, so I wouldn't really know." Suddenly, he stifled a laugh, concealing his amused smile behind his dark grey sleeve. "Sorry."

Amber softly stroked Ink while at the corner of her eye, Danny examined the restaurant. At first he seemed skeptical which soon changed to thoughtful and finally, contempt. As he offered Ink to smell his hand, but pulled away. When he explained, Amber couldn’t help it, she just plain out laughed. As soon as the first sound let out, she stuffed her face in Ink’s fur. Ink, being a normal cat, struggled to get out of the grasp and climbed onto Amber’s shoulders and lied down trying to stay on.
As she finished laughing, she moved her hand, which had strayed there and apologized. “Sorry about that, but my brother, once again being the stupid one, did that to me and I ended up biting him. Well, there’s no time like the present.” She shrugged and explained what she meant. “Cats can smell you from at least 30 feet away, and with all these smells that they’re used to, they could probably smell you from even further away. Ink once told me he only did it to see if he could catch a whiff of shrimp; his favorite.” After thinking, she added, “And no matter how much I could say the same to you, quiet frankly I have some friends that are birds.”

"So I see," Danny said, his tone interested. He knew next to nothing about cats, and seeing as how he was now friends with one, it was a good idea to start learning. Besides, it may come in handy later.
After Amber made the comment about bird friends, Danny dearly wanted to tell her he didn't have friends period. But he wasn't going to, seeing as it would both offend her and give away too much. Although you DID already let it slip before. I wonder if she noticed it or not...probably.
Breaking out of his reverie, Danny smiled at the pair. "Well! Shall we go inside?" he said, eyes suddenly flicking up to Ink. "Will the owner allow him to come inside? Some places are picky about what animals they let in." His smile then changed to an irritated smirk. "Some restaurants will try to shoot birds that fly in, even if it was an accident. It's rather awful."

Once Danny suggested letting Ink stay out, she just barely covered up laughing again, but held it in. “Oh my. I always forget, no the ‘owner’ won’t mind. In fact, any pet is allowed in on my consent. My family owns the place, so don’t worry if you come flying in.” At that comment though, she had to at least chuckle. Without waiting for Danny though, she simply walked right in and was instantly greeted by some of the common customers.
The walls were made of fine umber-colored wood and shined as if they were just polished. Fans with bright lights hung on the white painted ceiling, while they spun in slow circles to keep the air cool. A long red rug showed the way throughout the restaurant. Many people were laughing and enjoying themselves, while others whispered nonsense to one another. Waiters were moving about and all sorts of things gobbled down their meal. After a few glances about the room, Amber counted a few cats, a couple of birds idling on the top of the curtain holders, and even a dog or two loyally lying at their owners feet. “He should be somewhere back here…” Amber trailed off as she searched for the tall friendly man.

Danny chuckled a bit at her joke, then quickly followed her in. Instantly, he felt the familiar anxiety creeping up; too many people. Too many people he didn't know. The overall noise of the comforting (well, comforting to other people) restaurant set Danny on edge. The best thing to do was to keep following Amber, hopefully to a 'safer' place.
As he followed his friend, he stole a few glances of his surroundings through his bangs. A few animals were here - shifters, or pets? - and people were behaving pretty normally. Danny's nerves eased up a tiny bit; it didn't seem threatening. Still, he was on his guard.
"Who are you looking for?" Danny muttered, hoping Amber would hear him. She might not answer; some people didn't tell you the subject of their searching until they find whatever it was. But it wouldn't hurt to ask.

While Amber was searching for a certain person, she quietly heard Danny mumble from behind her. She walked a little further toward the kitchen. She pulled Ink’s tight clutch off her and answered, “Well, I’m trying to look for my dad, but I can’t find him. Hold on though.”
Pausing by the counter of the kitchen, she called in, “Jace! Could you get some shrimp for Ink?” She already knew the answer, but she asked anyway. Soon enough a thin tan hand popped out from the side, and before it disappeared Amber grabbed it. “Thanks” she murmured.
Popping open the can, she pulled the top off and threw it over the side into a large gray wheeled-trash can and handed the grub to the mewing feline. Unconsciously Amber knew Danny was behind her. Leaving Ink to his kitty chow, she turned around and leaned against the counter and softly sighed. “While we’re waiting, would you like to sit down? There’s a quiet place in the back if that would suit you better.”
