Alex beamed as Trinell introduced her guest, his tail wagging happily at the feline.
"Nice to meet you, Amber! I'm Alex, if that hasn't been cleared up yet. I'm the Leader of the Thieves Guild." He wondered if she had met the Assassins yet, or any other Thieves besides Trinell. Was she already thinking about one of the Guilds? Or did she have her mind set against the while Guild thing, and just let the wold lead her along to be polite. His guess was as good as any.
"Have you heard about the Guilds yet?" He asked, nodding a polite greeting after her murmured 'hello'.

Amber felt more relaxed as she started noticing the good signs. Amber was also slightly relieved at the fact that even the leader of a large gang didn’t know about her until now. Although Amber knew who he was, she slightly bobbed her head as he introduced himself. When their introductions were over, he curiously asked, “Have you heard about the Guilds yet?”
After seeing and understanding a little more about Alex, she felt s surge of confidence. Answering his question, she mewed, “Not until recently. I’ve just been informed.” Consciously, Amber knew that he probably had a whole assembly of shape shifters on his side, or even some watching, and she didn’t want to do anything to anger or upset his already lightened mood.
She peeked a glance at Trinell and noticed her laid-back calm position. Trinell sat back on her haunches and beamed down at her leader in respect. After their short greetings, Amber was clueless as to what to do next. Should I ask him about his guild? Maybe how he is doing? Or how long he’s visited the harbor. I’ve never seen him around before. Unsure, she waited for Trinell to speak so the attention was off her.

Amber's hope of being out of the limelight was unknowingly shot down as Alex addressed her again.
"Have you given thought to joining one? And before you say no, I can tell you, that they're not 'gangs', as the police like to call us. We're not vandalists, and don't live for fighting. It may seem that way on the surface, but deeper, we're like a family. Shapeshifters; we have to look out for one another,"
His gaze lost focus and his mind wandered vaguely back to his meeting with Rocoe, the Second of the Assassins. Even though they were in opposite Guilds, they had been able to share a moment of compassion for the other. It was the fact that they were both misfits, struggling to find their own way through a discriminating world.

As Alex asked her about joining a gang, she was surprised and immediately said, “Join? A ga- I mean… a guild?” She blinked a few times and looked down at her paws. Should I? Would it be reasonable? What would I do? Question is… would I? When he went on talking about a family, Amber thought of her own friends, family, or even complete strangers.
She had helped them when they needed it, or when they needed food or advice. They had helped her in return. Slowly as it dawned on her, Amber saw that Alex was far from bad, and could finally see what Trinell saw in his opinions and why she respected him. Her family looked out for her and supported her even though she was different from them, and in return she helped them understand things they hadn’t known before.
Amber’s thoughts raced back in time the day she found out about her powers. First they were surprised and thought it was a trick, but eventually they realized it wasn’t. They helped her get through it, like times she helped other shape shifters through their first few changings. She was sure her dad wouldn’t mind. If anything, he did know what it meant for her to fit in. Though she had many friends both animal or human, they weren’t the same as her.
Amber truly didn’t believe in fate, but she might have called it that, or maybe destiny. She thought out every possible pro and con she could, adding it to the list that had invisibly formed in her mind’s eye. If I joined, I wouldn’t have to kill or steal. I would gain much more protection and make new friends and allies. At the same time though, Amber knew if she joined, she would be gaining so many more enemies from the other guild.
She wanted to join, but what if she didn’t like how it ended? What if she died? Amber didn’t want to think about it. Her death would kill the inside of her family, and so many other creatures would miss and grieve for her. Alex was a kind thoughtful person like herself, and she believed that he would let her try. Asking anyway, she asked, “I.. I…” She couldn’t bring herself to say it. Amber closed her eyes, took a deep breath and let it out. Just say it, she disciplined herself. “I guess I would like to join your guild, but what if I don’t like it?” Amber was afraid that it was a join or die situation if she counted herself as a member. If it was, it was possible Amber just might leave.

Alex watched the cat's thoughts flick through her mind, wondering what they consisted of. He waited for her to reach a decision, and was fine with her still unsure reply.
"That's fine, Amber. You won't be penalized if you want to leave: we're not a cult of any kind. You're free to go: just please don't go blabbing to the Assassins? That'd get kind of annoying," he shrugged and laughed, tail still wagging.
"So. Think you're in?"

Trinell smiled to herself happily as Alex and Amber talked. She could see in Amber's eyes that she could now understand what she had said about Alex being kind and it pleased her. She cared for Alex as if he were her brother, despite their only affiliation being that they were in the same Guild. If they were normal people, she would have absolutely nothing to do with him, what with her status and all. They would consider her nothing but trouble. She shook the thoughts from her head, not wanting to let them get her down. She was in a good mood, and she wanted it to stay like that. After all, she knew it would have to go eventually. Sighing, she shook her head once more, this time successfully, and smiled softly. Amber and Alex were still talking. Yawning lazily, she plopped down onto her side and stretched out, her belly facing Alex and Amber. Her tail thumped lightly, allowing for another visible sign of her contentment. It practically pounded the ground when Amber said that she would like to join. If I could purr, it'd sound like a thunder storm, thought Trinell. She lifted her head and spoke when Amber asked what would happen if she didn't like being in the guild. "We'll miss you if you leave, though!" She said, smiling kindly at Amber. Nothing made her happier than making her family bigger with Shifters she liked.

Amber chuckled at Trinell’s lighthearted joke. Although it was supposed to be funny, Trinell could see the happiness her answer brought into her eyes. Trinell was right, Alex is nice, and I this… I could defiantly live with. Maybe she would have new enemies, but Amber was positive her new friends would help protect her, and she would do the same to them. Although she just joined, talking to Alex had helped her see what she actually meant. Maybe she would die, but everyone dies right? Some just earlier than others. Amber finally found somewhere she felt she belonged.
Amber sounded out a deafening purr at Alex’s enthusiasm and happily responded, “I did say I was in didn’t I?” She lightly laughed at Alex’s glowing expression. Alex’s mood was getting the better of Amber and it only helped by the fact that she was an expectedly humorous person. Suddenly her laugh stopped short though. It dawned on her, that she didn’t know anything about the guilds except for what Trinell told her. Maybe Amber knew about gangs, but she was far off from the main idea anyway.
Although she was content, Amber still had unanswered questions, and was convinced that Trinell and Alex could answer them all the way and more. Following Trinell’s lead, she slid towards the ground until her belly fully met the hardness of the land. Starting off easy, she asked, “Ok, so now that I’m in, what do I have to do? Should I spy on the Assassins, or patrol on the streets, or gather information or something?” While she was talking, she realized she might be brining in her friends and she didn’t want them to get too involved without getting harmed.
After a thought though, she realized that her friends were high on the gossip and rumors around here. It was common knowledge for every animal-speaker to know that the harbor was a place for chit-chat and Amber’s friends are the ones to spread it. No Assassin, or Thief for that matter, would know that they were helping someone from a guild. Even if they did know, they wouldn’t find out which one. The secrets would be safe within Amber… and Alex once I pass them on, she silently added. To fill them in on her thought, she informed them, “Actually I can get a lot of information if you’d like. I have resources.” She added for the sake of humor. Karma will kill me if I don’t crack a joke at least once a day, she added for herself.

Seeing that the two had decided to get comfortable, Alex followed and sat his haunches down, neatly flipping his tail so that it settled over his paws. "Well, actually, that wouldn't be such a bad idea," he mused. "I won't ask what kind of resources, but as long as they're accurate, they'll do."
He paused, tilting his head unknowingly as he thought. "What else...? Oh, right: Rule Number 1 of the Guilds: Don't tell anyone who's not a Shapeshifter that you ARE one. Some people obviously, like family, know already, but the less people who know, the better. Not many of the Guilds know this, but I like to keep the Thieves informed: there are scientists in this city who have a suspicion about our kind of...powers. They're working with animal control in certain places, and if they hear about you, they'll be after your hide.
"Another reason is that many people are spies, like you'll end up playing, and may not be exactly who they seem to be. So just be on the lookout. The fewer people who know your now a part of a Guild, the better. It's a sort of strategy game, almost,"
He glanced to Trinell, who was lying on her side comfortably. "Anything else you think we should mention?"

Trinell lifted her head once again as Alex turned to her, asking, "Anything else you think we should mention?" She thought for a moment, then shrugged as best as she could lying on the ground. "Depends, I'd say. Do you want to know more about the Thieves? The Assassins? Where our main meetings places are? Stuff like that?" She said, shrugging nonchalantly. "It helps to know stuff like that. At least, it does for me." She laughed at that even though to some it would seem more like a reason to cry rather than laugh. She was homeless, after all. Not that she minded. She liked her solitude sometimes. "Then again," She said, "It all depends on what Amber wants to know."

Amber politely listened as Trinell asked Alex, “Anything else you think we should mention.” When she turned toward Amber, she picked her head up and pricked her ears. “Depends, I’d say. Do you want to know more about the thieves? The Assassins? Where our main meetings places are? Stuff like that?” Amber thought how anything would help. Amber mused for a moment how much information they were talking here, but she ignored it. I need to know this, she encouraged herself.
Nodding, she suggested, “Well if you don’t mind, and you have the time, I think it would be best to know as much as I can before the day ends. You never know when that stuff will help.” Amber shrugged suggesting the obvious. Who wouldn’t want to know where meetings are held when you join some place? The idea could be useful if anything happened, or if she needed to meet someone at any time. Luckily she had nearly unlimited time to do whatever she wanted to.
